Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 882: Chapter 880: The Earth Fissure

Under Amirka’s guidance, Gu Xi arrived at the place described by Amirka.

At this moment, Gu Xi saw a giant fissure appear on the ground.

This fissure was at least sixty meters wide, stretching endlessly from left to right.

Standing at the edge, Gu Xi could see the sides of the fissure were sliced like with a knife, at least six to seven hundred meters deep from top to bottom.

Looking down, Gu Xi could see a mass of vines and tree roots writhing continuously below the fissure.

”What’s going on here?”

”I’m not quite sure either, but I have sent people to both sides to check how long this fissure is. They’re not back yet,” Amirka replied.

Hearing this, Gu Xi knew there was no need to ask further questions.

This fissure was blasted out by Spore Cultist Charlie through self-sacrificial explosion previously.

Next time, he can’t be allowed to play like this again.

”No wonder Lloyd chose to guard here. It seems those tree-like anomalies appeared from here, and more of them might emerge from below, so it needs constant monitoring,” Gu Xi speculated.

Just one glance down was enough for Gu Xi to make a judgment call.

He wasn’t sure if it was the Mirror Image Space self-cutting, or if the previous self-sacrificial explosion was just too powerful.

While Gu Xi was inspecting the situation, his undead subordinates arrived.

At this moment, Gu Xi waved his hand, releasing thirty ghost squads to descend into the fissure.

These ghosts, led by a Ghost Boss, went down with the sole purpose of examining what lies below.

Meanwhile, other undead were gathering stones and earth nearby, preparing to build a bastion here.

”Milord, what are you doing?”

Initially, upon hearing Gu Xi’s words, Amirka had thought Gu Xi intended to head back directly.

But considering the current situation, it seemed otherwise.

”There may be unusual things down there, I need to be cautious.

After all, we can’t place all our forces solely in the present-day Yaliduoli.

You also can’t patrol outside the city continually, right?

This time, it was tree-type anomalies; their slow movement was a blessing.

We managed to detect some in advance.

But what if the fast-moving type emerges?

If they can reach Yalidov City within a day, we won’t have time to react, so I plan to build warning beacons here.

There’s no need for too many, just line them up every five miles, so we can always see where the enemy emerges from.

Conveniently, these withered vines could be used to signal fires, and though it’s unsure if the flames will rise high enough, as long as they’re visible, that’s enough.

As for assigning personnel, organizing one Skeleton Soldier, one Zombie, and one Ghost at each post will suffice.

As undead, they do not naturally consume resources.

Moreover, they don’t need to fight; they just need to keep watch here.”

”Milord, although that’s what you say, do you really believe we should mass troops here?”

A concerned Amirka questioned.

”Yes,” Gu Xi responded firmly.

”Yalidov City in this layer lacks city gates and walls, not to mention moats or any defensive lines, making it vulnerable to attacks.

The most crucial point is, I’ve already decided that this layer of Yalidov City will be developed as a Market District.

In this way, most resources of Yalidov City will be concentrated here.

The paths to various cities and satellite cities will also converge here.

If we don’t prepare defenses adequately, we might be safe.

But if we get raided like this time, our loss will be immense.

Therefore, until the defensive lines are set up, protecting Yalidov City’s safety is a must.”

With Gu Xi’s intentions understood, Amirka took another look at the still-unbuilt warning beacons here.

These warning beacons were essentially ten-meter-high platforms, with piles of withered vines stacked on top.

A Zombie stood there holding a torch, generally unmoving, unless there’s trouble below the fissure, at which point it would throw the torch on the vines to instantly ignite a flame and signal a warning to the rear.

The reason for the Zombie’s presence here was due to its high defense and life, allowing it to withstand attacks without dying immediately.

It would still have time to light the fire.

In addition to this Zombie, there were one Skeleton Soldier and one Ghost.

The Skeleton Soldier patrolled back and forth in front of the warning beacon to ensure no troublesome things approached from the ground.

The Ghost would descend into the fissure periodically to check the situation below.

This was to prevent any negligence that might lead to our home being raided.

After sending out his subordinates, Gu Xi’s ghost squad also expanded their vine-harvesting activities.

They gradually approached the area near the fissure.

At this moment, Gu Xi noticed another situation: new vines were continually growing from the fissure.

Though not fast-growing, they kept sprouting.

So, the Skeleton Soldier had another task, which was to continually clear the growing vines, preventing them from reclaiming the land Gu Xi had just cleared.

Gu Xi didn’t linger there for long.

After meticulously planning everything, he dispatched Amirka to carry out the tasks.

Seeing he could still lead the cavalry for a while longer, Amirka felt quite pleased, willing to oversee the work Gu Xi assigned him willingly.

Gu Xi detailed his plans thoroughly.

Setting up a warning beacon every five miles along the fissure.

This ensures immediate detection of enemies emerging from the fissure.

Afterward, longitudinal warning beacons would be set up every five miles too, ranging from the fissure to Lloyd’s position.

When at Lloyd’s side, it would be substantial enough for Yalidov.

Lloyd could at least hold off the enemy for some time, allowing Yalidu City enough time to react.

Achieving this would suffice.

While on his way back, Gu Xi also explained this matter to Lloyd.

Lloyd had no objections to Gu Xi’s arrangements; instead, he felt quite excited.

Initially, Lloyd chose to root himself at this place to prepare for potential enemies indeed.

Now that Gu Xi had everything planned out, Lloyd had no reason to oppose but sincerely stated.

”Please rest assured, Milord. I will definitely guard this passage.”

Gu Xi nodded in satisfaction, preparing to leave when Lloyd added.

”Milord, we can securely guard this passage, but there’s one thing I must clarify: the road to Yalidu City isn’t just limited to this one passage.”
