Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 866: Chapter 864: Disrupting the Skill

The Tree Root Attack Power of Spore Cultist Charlie actually wasn’t that strong. The harder thing to deal with wasn’t the roots dropping from above, but the red threads mixed in among the roots.

Those red threads were the really troublesome things.

This stuff didn’t count as Mind Control.

It was a special kind of control method.

It worked on Undead too.

A lot of red threads were falling from above, and Gu Xi definitely didn’t want his own subordinates to suddenly turn around and become his enemies.

So Gu Xi immediately came up with a scummy trick.

The Ghost Squad, which had been acting as mere background this whole time, took to the air at this moment.

They still looked like White Impermanence, radiating thick, gloomy Yin Qi.

Even though the Cultists in this dungeon had no idea what kind of existence White Impermanence was, they still felt fear when the Ghost Squad rose into the air with that momentum.

Gu Xi had only one demand: use the Ghost Squad to draw the red-thread attacks from the Tree Roots of Spore Cultist Charlie.

There were a lot of red threads on the Tree Roots, but nowhere near sixty thousand.

Besides, in Gu Xi’s mind, even if there really were that many red threads, Charlie still couldn’t chase down every single enemy with them.

Micromanagement just wasn’t one of Spore Cultist Charlie’s abilities.

And the battle below was already beyond his control.

He couldn’t spare any more mental energy to micromanage every enemy.

All he could do was cast the red threads over a large area, first control people en masse, then give basic orders to those entangled to Attack.

In Spore Cultist Charlie’s eyes, as long as the enemy side fell into chaos, everything was worth it.

What he never expected was that the Ghost Squad, which looked like there were thousands upon thousands of them, was actually just one.

Their movement wasn’t that ghostly drifting; instead, wherever they wanted a Ghost to appear, a Ghost appeared.

When the Ghost Squad flew up, the core few Ghosts didn’t actually go into the air.

They controlled those Ghosts that had become White Impermanence, making them appear—like an Illusion Technique—wherever the red threads could reach.

The red threads rapidly split into many strands, each chasing after a White Impermanence.

But every time they were just about to catch up, the body of White Impermanence flickered and vanished in front of the red threads.

No matter how the red threads chased, they couldn’t get a hold on White Impermanence’s body.

In the end, they just wasted a lot of Spore Cultist Charlie’s energy.

By the time he realized what was happening, the situation had changed again: those little monsters that had grown from the Apple Trees were once more wiped out by Gu Xi.

Their corpses were once again successfully used for Summoning.

Faced with this situation, Gu Xi didn’t even know what to say.

Leave a corpse and you can complete a Summoning—this was the Rule on the Undead Mage’s side.

After the little monsters died, the swamp absorbed them and grew new Tree-men—that was the Rule on Spore Cultist Charlie’s side.

The two Rules obviously clashed, yet unexpectedly, both still worked.

Normally, after a corpse was used for Summoning, it couldn’t be used for anything else.

But the way the little monsters changed wasn’t actually based on the corpse itself transforming; instead, after death, a portion of them automatically flowed into the swamp and then grew back out of the swamp.

You could say they left behind a ”seed,” which could then grow into a new small soldier.

Precisely because of this, Spore Cultist Charlie could bypass the Rule about corpse usage and raise his little soldiers’ Levels again and again.

Unfortunately for him, no matter how much Spore Cultist Charlie reinforced them, his little monsters couldn’t match Gu Xi’s subordinates, whether in numbers or in Level.

Every time they crawled up from underground, it was just another delivery of Summoning materials for Gu Xi.

This time was the same. The little monsters above the swamp had already turned into tree monsters taller than a person, a Level Gu Xi hadn’t seen when he first fought Spore Cultist Charlie.

But the number of Undead surrounding these little monsters was clearly higher; each little monster had at least thirty-something Undead around it, and sometimes they didn’t even wait for the monster to fully climb out of the ground.

As soon as they stretched a hand out of the swamp, the nearby Undead would drag them out and then lay into them with a brutal beating.

Under these circumstances, these little monsters were dying faster and faster.

At the same time, the little monsters under Spore Cultist Charlie’s command didn’t become infinitely stronger.

Their upper limit was at most Level 8, and as their Level went up, their numbers went down.

Like at the start, the little monsters that appeared were about Level 3, and there were over five thousand of them.

But now, all the Level 8 little monsters added together numbered just a bit over a hundred.

You could see the gap between Level and quantity from that alone.

Hanging from the Tree Roots, Spore Cultist Charlie honestly hadn’t expected things to end up like this.

For this dungeon, those five thousand or so Level 3 little monsters were already deadly enough.

For a five-man party, if they didn’t follow the story route and their relationship with the various forces of Britain wasn’t good, they probably couldn’t withstand that kind of Impact.

But for Gu Xi, that Attack was far too weak.

So weak that Gu Xi was muttering to himself, wondering why there were so few enemies.

If there had been ten thousand-plus enemies in one wave, he could’ve made a fortune just by using Summoning on those little monsters.

Watching the number of little monsters before him shrink.

Gu Xi also knew that Spore Cultist Charlie was out of Skills.

The little monsters in front of him were already Spore Cultist Charlie’s limit.

Gu Xi raised his hand, and the Skeleton Shooters who had been standing in the back without firing finally lifted their Bows and Arrows.

There were more than ten thousand Skeleton Shooters; with Tree Roots that big up there, it didn’t matter where they hit.

Gu Xi didn’t need these Skeleton Shooters to do anything fancy; as long as they could forcibly break the armor and take 1 point of Life from Spore Cultist Charlie, that was enough.

Ten thousand Skeleton Shooters meant ten thousand Lives.

As long as this volley went out, Spore Cultist Charlie was dead.

When Gu Xi raised his hand, the Skeleton Shooter Bosses behind him all understood that this was the critical moment.

So they all started barking orders at once.

”Get ready!”

”Follow me!”

”Look carefully, that enemy is huge—just fire with full strength, don’t worry about missing. How could you miss something that big?!”

”Focus fire, you know what focus fire means? It means shoot together with me!”

Under their orders, all the Skeleton Shooters forgot what accuracy even was. They just drew their Longbows back with all their strength and aimed at Spore Cultist Charlie on the ceiling.

Right at that moment, Anna arrived with the forces of Britain. The instant they stepped into the underground space ahead of them, they heard a buzzing sound, and countless Long Arrows shot up toward Spore Cultist Charlie above.
