Chapter 95: Chapter 93: First Battle

Just as he left Ice Valley, Gu Xi felt the biting cold wind assault his face. He pulled his body further into the quilt, glanced up to confirm the direction, and let the Evil Coffin advance on its own.

He wrapped himself tightly, half-lying on the Evil Coffin, hoping the cold wind wouldn’t blow him away.

Outside Ice Valley, the ground was frozen solid, with thick snow occasionally visible, and the streams were layered with ice, occasionally showing glimpses of fish leaping beneath the surface.

In the wilderness, a slightly noticeable path wound through, where beasts with white fur occasionally prowled.

These beasts seemed influenced by something; whenever they detected unusual movement on the road, they’d approach to investigate or perhaps even follow to attack.

Seeing Gu Xi riding a coffin board for movement, they were not surprised. Before long, a pack of wild wolves appeared behind Gu Xi, stealthily following along.

An attack could happen at any moment.

Though Gu Xi noticed the situation behind him as he left the city, he paid no mind.

Being all alone now, the Evil Coffin moved swiftly without consuming physical strength, allowing him to dash ahead and leave the wild wolves far behind.

He let them chase for a while, waiting for the wolves to gather in numbers before unleashing his undead corps.

At that time, he’d have a large number of corpses, whether for wolf meat or for playing with Corpse Burst or the Soul Summoning Skill.

If he showed his strength now and scared the wolves off immediately, he’d gain nothing.

So Gu Xi simply accelerated, making the Evil Coffin fly even faster.

Seeing this, the wolves abandoned stealth and leaped from the wild, running and chasing incessantly.

Sometimes they howled, seeming to signal their companions or prepare for the hunt.

If an ordinary person encountered such a situation, they’d likely die of fright.

But in this world, who wasn’t an Undead Mage? With undead that needn’t worry about morale or fatigue.

These small tactics were nothing to an Undead Mage.

Most wild wolves had learned not to engage when an Undead Mage had their undead around.

Today, seeing Gu Xi alone, the wolves finally decided to attack him.

They didn’t realize that Gu Xi being solo didn’t mean he was without subordinates; he simply had different tactics.

Watching the increasing number of wolves behind him, Gu Xi chuckled.

”Just arrived and already gaining some proceeds, Undead Mages truly grow in battle.”

Gu Xi mumbled while observing the wolves’ numbers behind him.

Once the wolves numbered around three hundred, Gu Xi slammed his hand on the coffin lid, and the Evil Coffin made a sharp turn, heading directly toward the wolves.

The wolves, furiously chasing behind, froze at the sight.

They never expected Gu Xi to be so bold, charging alone at them—a tactic only Death Knights were known for among professional players.

But Gu Xi didn’t look like a Death Knight at all.

What kind of proper Death Knight would wrap themselves in a quilt when going out?

Just then, a tall city gate appeared behind Gu Xi.

This time, Gu Xi wasn’t just scaring them by displaying a city gate. The gate of Death City appeared directly on the battlefield.

Waving the banner of the Bone-Slaying Camp, skeleton soldiers rushed out with two-handed longswords.

Seeing the Bone-Slaying Camp’s forces, Gu Xi relaxed.

Luna had followed his note, integrating all hundred Skeleton Soldiers sent into the Bone-Slaying Camp’s ranks.

[Bone-Slaying Camp (Level 1, Traits: Attack +5, Defense +1, Experience 77/200): Commander (1/2) Level 2 Skeleton Boss, Members (123/243) Level 3 Skeleton Two-Handed Swordsmen 123]

Glancing at the Bone-Slaying Camp’s attributes, Gu Xi waved his hand.

”Slaughter them!”

The Skeleton Two-Handed Swordsmen of the Bone-Slaying Camp charged at the wolves, and as they advanced, another group of skeletons emerged from the city gate.

These skeletons were Gu Xi’s Skeleton Shooters, lacking a suitable Skeleton Boss to lead them and currently in a scattered state.

Beside them were Luna’s Zombie Corps and Ghost Corps.

Upon seeing Gu Xi, Luna immediately said, ”Sir, I’ve brought reinforcements.”

”Where are Combat Squad 1 and Combat Squad 2?”

Seeing Luna approach, Gu Xi sat up straight.

”They’re guarding the Pier District.”

”What about the over five thousand undead sent in earlier, are they following orders?”

Gu Xi asked another question. At this point, the Skeleton Two-Handed Swordsmen of the Bone-Slaying Camp reached the wolves, all executing the same move, swinging their longswords from below upwards.

At that moment, the wolves decided to kill their opponents.

One wolf lunged straight, aiming for the throat of a Skeleton Two-Handed Swordsman, intending a fatal strike.

But the upward swing of the longsword sliced the wolf’s belly.

With a single swipe, the wolf’s abdomen was cut open, spilling its innards.

Then, the Skeleton Two-Handed Swordsman pressed downwards with force, delivering a slashing kill, striking heavily on a wolf’s head.

In just one confrontation, more than a hundred wolves were slain on the spot.

[Skeleton Swordsman (Summoned Creatures) kills Wilderness Wolf (Level 2), you gain 1 experience point, Bone-Slaying Camp gains 1 experience point, Summoned Creatures gain 8 experience points.]

[Skeleton Swordsman (Summoned Creatures) kills Wilderness Wolf (Level 2), you gain 1 experience point, Bone-Slaying Camp gains 1 experience point, Summoned Creatures gain 9 experience points.]

[Skeleton Swordsman (Summoned Creatures) kills Winter Wolf (Level 3), you gain 1 experience point, Bone-Slaying Camp gains 1 experience point, Summoned Creatures gain 13 experience points.]

[...]

[Bone-Slaying Camp’s experience reached the threshold, Bone-Slaying Camp leveled up!]

[Bone-Slaying Camp (Level 2, Traits: Attack +5, Defense +1, Attack Speed +20%, Experience 2/500): Commander (1/3) Level 2 Skeleton Boss, Members (123/343) Level 3 Skeleton Two-Handed Swordsmen 123]

Just like that, Bone-Slaying Camp leveled up?

Gu Xi was also startled by the situation before his eyes.

But he quickly understood; this is the greatest trait of an Undead Mage.

On top of the corresponding experience soldiers receive from kills, the Undead Mage and the undead soldier’s unit each gain 1 experience point.

With a large number of undead soldiers, the Undead Mage and unit can level up quickly.

Understanding this, Gu Xi didn’t wait for Luna to reply, decisively ordering.

”Skeleton Shooters advance, kill all the wolves.”
