Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 84: Chapter 82: Discovery in the Library

The Library of Yalidu City is situated on the outskirts of the city, and directly across from it is the recently merged old district.

Since the old district originally did not belong to Yalidu City, its style has a distinct difference.

Walking down the street, Gu Xi could clearly see that on one side were small stone houses from the fifteenth century, and on the other were abandoned concrete buildings.

Standing on the street and looking to both sides, one would feel as if they were at the intersection of time and space.

The library is established at this location, on the edge of Yalidu City, yet it boasts a different style altogether. This library is a two-story building.

The style is also from the fifteenth century, but outside the building are numerous flowers and plants, with an unusual pea vine climbing all over the eastern wall.

From afar, it looks more like an herbal shop rather than a library.

Pushing open the library’s main door, a voice reached Gu Xi’s ears.

[Building Name: Library (Fairy Tale Oriented)

Level: Level 1 (Upgradeable)

Traits:

Produces 3 mysterious peas weekly, attributes are random (reward for collecting ten fairy tale books).

When a Magic Tower is built, it can trigger a linked effect, increasing the research speed of magic in the Magic Tower by 1.

When a Magic Academy is built, it can trigger a linked effect, increasing the training speed of magic apprentices by 3.

When an Alchemy Laboratory is built, it can trigger a linked effect, increasing the success rate of alchemy product refinement by 25%]

While looking at the prompt that popped up, Gu Xi walked into the library.

Unlike the tavern, although there was no sign of human presence in the library, it was spotlessly clean, with two bookshelves in the hall on the first floor. The shelves held only ten fairy tale books that Gu Xi had purchased.

The fairy tale book recording the story of the Death God was placed at the top, but Gu Xi’s target was the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale book. He never expected that such a gray fairy tale book could influence the reward output of the library.

Soon after, Gu Xi did indeed find three intact peas in front of this fairy tale book.

The peas were as green as jade, with shimmering light flickering on them; one glance revealed they were extraordinary.

Gu Xi reached out to pick up the peas, and the information on the three peas popped up before him.

[Power Peas (Green): Consuming it increases power by 5, lasting 3 hours.]

[Heaven-Reaching Peas (Green): Once buried in the ground, it can quickly grow into a large vine, which can be used to create long-handled weapons or magic wands.]

[Pea Shooter (Green): Once buried in the ground, it can grow into a shooter that spits pea seeds, with an attack power of 5, ammunition 30, and disappears automatically after all ammunition is spent.]

The attributes of these three peas were truly ever-changing, with every variety imaginable.

Having examined the situation of the three peas, Gu Xi couldn’t help but sigh softly in his heart.

After all, they were considered a free gift, and Gu Xi wasn’t picky, especially since the quality of these three peas was quite remarkable. After putting away the peas, Gu Xi began to look around the library again.

The library gave Gu Xi the same feeling as the Owl House; both buildings were completed, but their functions were not yet fully operational, requiring Gu Xi to invest various supplies into them.

Currently, only the first floor was open. After a quick tour, Gu Xi found a hall and three small rooms on the first floor.

The hall had three bookshelves; presently, only one was filled with books, while the other two were empty. Each small room had a bookshelf and a desk, apparently for transcription.

However, the desks and bookshelves were currently empty, with nothing on them.

Gu Xi believed that with his efforts, the library would eventually be filled one day.

At that time, the library would have great utility, with the three bookshelves producing corresponding supplies weekly. What about the three small rooms? Would they also produce supplies, or perhaps even more?

Thinking of this, a smile emerged on Gu Xi’s face.

As an Undead Mage, what Gu Xi learned primarily involved manipulating undead combat and undead magic.

Regarding city development, he hadn’t learned much about it.

After all, not every player gets the chance to own a city of their own.

Gu Xi knew only that a city’s development mainly required population and supplies.

The undead side could recruit population from battles, and resources needed to be accumulated bit by bit.

Having an additional building that produces supplies, yielding more supplies, was indeed good news for Gu Xi.

After touring the library, Gu Xi was about to leave when his gaze suddenly landed on the building across the street.

For some reason, as he looked over there, came an urge to go over.

As soon as this thought arose, Gu Xi paused, quickly placing his hand on the doorframe to prevent himself from rushing over impulsively.

He then stood on tiptoe to get a better look in that direction, noting a clearly abandoned building there.

Laboratory?

Gu Xi recalled that the merger land title clearly stated there were three abandoned laboratories within.

These three labs occupied three large land plots, and the warning marked them not as activatable, but as dangerous.

When Gu Xi obtained the land title, he hadn’t thought too much and, before reporting to the Guild, handed it over to Luna to integrate into Yalidu City.

In hindsight, Gu Xi had acted somewhat rashly.

He shouldn’t have merged dangerous places ahead of time, but should have accumulated enough power first to deal with them later.

It’s somewhat troublesome now.

Gu Xi turned away, stopping his gaze from lingering there, and instead circled around to the back of the library.

Upon confirming that he could no longer see the abandoned laboratory, Gu Xi finally breathed a sigh of relief.

From the prior situation, Gu Xi already noticed that something inside the abandoned laboratory was undoubtedly compelling him to approach.

It was a kind of power affecting the spirit, which, had Gu Xi not been an Undead Mage, might have already fallen prey to.

Yet the threat wasn’t fully resolved. If these abandoned laboratories weren’t cleared, his Yalidu City could be negatively impacted.

A force needed to be assembled, to charge into the abandoned laboratory.

Another thought emerged in Gu Xi’s mind.

But as soon as this idea sprang up, it disappeared instantly. Gu Xi could distinctly feel that, upon this thought forming, slight magic fluctuations arose in his surroundings.

Clearly, the things inside the abandoned laboratory were again trying to lure Gu Xi over.

The more persistent they were, the more resolute Gu Xi was to distance himself, not even considering sending his subordinates into the abandoned lab.

This way, whatever lay in the abandoned lab wouldn’t be unleashed.
