Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 76: Chapter 74: Pre-War Preparation

”Luna, I need to restore my mana. Take this person on patrol around the city.”

Gu Xi glanced at the ground full of negative energy and turned to Luna.

At this moment, Shaya had already helped Gu Xi retrieve the Shattering Staff.

Upon receiving the Shattering Staff, Gu Xi couldn’t help but let out a sound of surprise.

Just now, it seemed the Shattering Staff had absorbed some of the Death Incarnation’s power, and its quality had changed somewhat.

[Shattering Staff +1 (Green, Wooden Staff)]

[Attack: 6-9]

[Equipment Requirements: Power 3]

[Special: Shatter, 85% chance to break the enemy’s bones, armor, or other defenses when attacking.]

[Description: A wooden staff capable of shattering everything. The previous battle records show that the staff is the best weapon to use.]

Raising the Shattering Staff for a closer look, Gu Xi noticed that a faint image of a small Bone Dragon would flash on the Shattering Staff whenever he swung it.

It seemed like this change was due to the destruction of the negative energy sphere of the Death Incarnation just now.

After swinging the Shattering Staff a couple of times, Gu Xi turned again to Shaya.

”Shaya, how are you feeling now?”

”Very well, my lord, you saw earlier that I can also use a sap.

And I’ve already integrated the effect of the Invisibility Cloak, so my stealth ability has improved by at least 3 levels.”

Gu Xi then remembered that when fighting the negative energy sphere of the Death Incarnation, Luna used the Touch of Frost, and Shaya used the sap attack.

It seemed she truly learned a lot.

”Alright, since your stealth ability has improved, you’ll be much safer. You should head to Victoria City first; keep an eye out for the owls I’ve dispatched. If you need anything, I’ll contact you through them.”

”Alright.” Shaya responded happily.

At this time, Luna also floated over.

”My lord, the battlefield has been cleaned up. A total of 3762 units of negative energy were obtained. Additionally, the skeletal soldiers took away the dragon bones, which automatically integrated into them upon the Death Incarnation’s demise, and now can’t be retrieved.”

”Did you plan to retrieve those dragon bones?”

”Yes, I heard that burying four or more dragon bones in one place can form a temporary Dragon Tomb. Once a Dragon Tomb is built, the output of Bone Dragons can increase there.”

”Forget it, the Bone Dragons are still quite far from us. Let’s focus on taking over the Pier District first. I’m going to restore my mana, and you should take all skeletons for upgrade.

Other than filling the three combat squads, convert the rest all into Skeleton Shooters.

The firepower was severely lacking when fighting the Death Incarnation just now. We need to change that.”

”Is the lord planning to use the Death Incarnation for the Pier District attack?”

Luna, having been with Gu Xi for a long time, instantly understood his intentions.

”Yes, I’ve realized that within Death City, the Death Incarnation seems to persist permanently, contrasting with the descriptions where it disappears after battles.

Additionally, the synergy between Death City and the Death Incarnation is meant to build a residence for it.

So, I speculate that the Death Incarnation might permanently reside within the heart of Death City.

Once the synergy is activated, the Death Incarnation can even appear on the battlefield through the arena doors.”

Luna did not quite grasp what Gu Xi meant by his words, but it didn’t prevent her from nodding along.

”You should take the Death Incarnation on patrol, familiarizing him with our city. Once my mana is restored, we’ll set off to attack the Pier District.”

”Understood.” Luna nodded decisively and turned to communicate with the Death Incarnation.

Unlike Luna, a Contracted Undead, the Death Incarnation, though summoned by skills, belongs to the class of Summoned Creatures, akin to a Bone Dragon.

Luna holds a natural advantage in communicating with it.

After just a few words with the Death Incarnation, it followed Luna out on patrol.

Gu Xi then headed to the tavern, as an Undead Mage, other than finding a safe spot to rest when out of mana, he needed to drink some beverages that could quickly restore mana.

As soon as Gu Xi entered the tavern, the barmaid swiftly appeared.

”Isn’t this Lord City Lord? What brings you here?”

”Came for a couple of drinks, and to hear if there are any recent rumors.”

As Gu Xi spoke, he flicked his fingers, and a negative energy crystal landed on the table.

The barmaid simply wiped her sleeve across the table, collecting the negative energy crystal.

Two skeletal maidservants brought up two mugs of green beer, and the barmaid casually picked up one and gulped down half of it.

”I have some news that you might find interesting.”

”Let’s hear it.”

Gu Xi took a sip of beer, feeling the mana restoration, and spoke nonchalantly.

”Well, just two days ago, I intercepted an order from over there. It requires all nearby Deceitful Shadows to mobilize, as a support for some sort of crusade at St. Church.”

”Westminster Cathedral?”

”Yes, that’s the place. Meanwhile, it seems there’s been a recent increase in the number of new Deceitful Shadows. You should watch out for that.”

The barmaid, beer in hand, prepared to leave after speaking.

”Wait, is that all the information?”

Gu Xi hurriedly stopped the barmaid.

”What, isn’t this information enough for you? This is significant news. Although you’re not part of the Deceitful Shadow system, nearby districts are.

Even if they are relatively independent, they must respond to the mission call, which will significantly weaken the defenses in those districts. If you plan to conquer them, now is your opportunity.”

Gu Xi realized this and placed two more negative energy crystals on the table. ”Find out the intelligence on the other two districts for me.”

The barmaid, surprised by Gu Xi’s decisive manner, was taken aback.

”Really? With your current forces, you actually plan to conquer those districts now?”

”Let’s get the intelligence first. Just because my forces are few now doesn’t mean they will be in the future. I have a huge trump card right now.”

As Gu Xi finished his sentence, it seemed as if in response, the Death Incarnation flew across the sky.

The passing black silhouette also caught the barmaid’s attention, prompting a thought.

”Fine, I’ll look into it for you, but I must say, my little tavern only has three spies, so the information from separate probing might not be comprehensive.”

”Knowing the enemy’s forces and levels will suffice. We’ll deal with the rest when we encounter them on the battlefield.”
