Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 64: Chapter 62: Anchor Point Established, Passageway Opened

After observing the new changes within Yalidu City, Gu Xi wandered around a few more times to determine the next construction goals before exiting Yalidu City.

This time, his exit wasn’t like last time, where he was directly thrown into the Isis River.

This time, he entered Yalidu City through the proper routes and, adhering to the principle of exiting where he entered, reappeared at the ruins.

As he opened his eyes, Gu Xi saw Shaya standing calmly beside him.

The ruins before them had already changed, with the exterior of the three-story building completed, and now some goblins were working on the final touches to its appearance.

The goblins took no notice of Gu Xi’s disappearance and reappearance.

From their perspective, Gu Xi had merely gone out and come back through stealth, something they had seen often with those major aristocratic families.

Nonetheless, Gu Xi was intrigued by the goblins’ activities.

He noticed that these small goblins always seemed to have something that accelerated the construction of the building.

These items varied in size, with some whose functions were evident to Gu Xi, while others he couldn’t understand at all.

The only certainty was that anything related to technology was all in a steam style.

Moreover, the goblins used a kind of black powder as fuel. Initially, Gu Xi thought it was coal, yet, for some reason, seeing this black powder gave him the feeling of looking at corpses.

This was the instincts of an Undead Mage; he could even see the lingering grievances on the black powder.

This wasn’t the grievance of miners who died in coal mines; there must be something different within it.

Gu Xi didn’t want to involve himself too much; the waters in Victoria City were too deep for him to handle for now.

Only when his strength is enhanced will he revisit these matters.

He didn’t even bother to find things like invisibility cloaks or take the initiative to venture out and try his luck, opting instead to sit at the ruins’ gate and observe.

Unbeknownst to him, staying put allowed him to avoid numerous troubles.

Under Gu Xi’s supervision, the goblins worked quickly. For some issues concerning details, Gu Xi could directly give suggestions for immediate modifications.

Thus, some things didn’t require back-and-forth discussions, naturally speeding up construction.

By the time the sky was getting dark, the building had been fully constructed.

The steam engine in the backyard had also been ignited, with the goblins even dumping a large sack of black powder into it.

A goblin dressed like a foreman brought the contract book to Gu Xi.

”Sir, the building is ready for your inspection. Once we leave, we won’t acknowledge any subsequent issues.”

”Alright, please wait here a moment while I take a look around.”

As Gu Xi spoke, Shaya went off to inspect.

As a Thief, Shaya had her own methods of inspecting buildings, and she could quickly determine any potential issues.

Things like inspections were left to Shaya to handle.

Gu Xi took a stroll around the front gate, backyard pond, and steam engine room.

These items with magic attributes needed Gu Xi to handle them personally, to at least gain control.

Particularly the front gate and steam engine room, one being the main access of the building, lacking control was equivalent to leaving the door open, allowing anyone to enter.

The other was the energy point for the entire building; without control, the lights and various steam machinery couldn’t operate.

Thus, transferring authority was essential for these two.

The front gate was relatively straightforward, the lion-head decorations were magic items, only needing a magic authority transfer.

The steam engine room in the backyard was different. It not only required an authority transfer, but the goblins also had to teach Gu Xi how to use it.

”This is coal slag, just a small handful from this opening supplies one day’s worth of steam for heating water, steam lights, and other energy needs for each room.”

If there’s a special requirement on any given day, add an extra handful, but no more than two. Going over this limit can cause problems.

Additionally, the coal slag is rather expensive, priced at 1 pound per handful. This bag contains thirty handfuls, sufficient for a month if used sparingly, a gift from our employer to you.

Coal slag will incur charges afterward, and without it, the steam-operated cannons and various mechanical systems in the rooms can’t function, so don’t blame us if it’s inadequate.”

”And don’t forget to keep this coal slag soaked in water when not in use and avoid sunlight exposure, as this can affect its effectiveness.”

Gu Xi looked up helplessly at the gray sky, wondering, will there ever be sunlight here?

Shaking his head, Gu Xi scooped up a handful of the coal slag, a glint of information passing through his eyes.

[?? Coal Slag (Gray): A popular fuel in Victoria City, no one cares where it originates, knowing it lasts a day per handful is enough.]

”This...”

”Don’t ask me, we don’t know where this coal slag comes from either. If you desire some, we can arrange purchases, a minimum of three bags, or a ten percent discount when ordering thirty bags.”

Gu Xi placed the black powder back, gently dusting off his hands.

”Alright, I understand now, maybe next time.”

As he spoke, Shaya appeared behind Gu Xi, nodding at him.

”It’s all good, the house passes equipment inspection, so I won’t keep you.”

”Great, if there are no issues, please sign here.”

The goblin eagerly presented the contract, quickly flipping through and pointing to clauses one by one for confirmation.

”If everything’s in order, just sign here.”

With such professionalism from the goblins, Gu Xi didn’t make it hard for them and swiftly signed the necessary contract, indicating completion of the building inspection.

With that, the goblins quickly packed everything and exited the area.

Once the goblins had left, Shaya whispered, ”Sir, the security here isn’t very strong, should I make some alterations?”

”Sure, I’ll ask Luna to help you set up the security system in this little building shortly.”

As Gu Xi spoke, he opened the city gate behind him, allowing Luna and the Skeleton Soldiers to quickly enter the courtyard.

”Luna, your timing is perfect, this building is now ours. This is a Furnace Stone, and you can place it by the fireplace.

Once the anchor point is set, I’ll be away for a day or two to handle some matters. During this time, you and Shaya can organize the building’s defense system.”

”Rest assured, sir, I will take care of it,” Luna assured, nodding as she accepted the Furnace Stone from Gu Xi and moved swiftly into the building.

Without saying more, Gu Xi walked with Shaya around the courtyard, considering additional installations.

It was then that a sound rang in his ears.
