Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 60: Chapter 58: Fairy Tale Books and the Library

”I’m afraid I’ve gone mad, bringing you here to buy fairy tale books, sir.”

Listening to Shaya’s constant murmuring behind him, Gu Xi simply smiled without giving it much thought.

After purchasing the Bone Healing Wood, Gu Xi didn’t linger at the dock under the sewer; instead, he followed Shaya through a few twists and turns to a bookstore tucked away in a deep alley.

According to Shaya, this bookstore sold some professional skill books and employment guides, as well as various books related to professionals and transcendents.

If Gu Xi wanted professional skill books, Shaya definitely wouldn’t have brought him here.

Because these books are quite expensive, some even cost more than the small building Gu Xi hasn’t yet completed.

But since Gu Xi was just looking for fairy tale books, there was no problem.

The prices of these fairy tale books weren’t actually high. Gu Xi rummaged around and found many interesting fairy tale books.

For example, The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Giant Slayer Jack, these are all classic British fairy tales.

However, while flipping through these fairy tales, Gu Xi felt they were filled with too much blood, violence, and eerie elements.

They didn’t seem written for children, but rather resembled magic guidebooks hiding evil powers,

but looking at the attributes of these fairy tale books, they were not.

[The Three Little Pigs (Gray): An illustrated fairy tale storybook, too gory to be suitable for children.]

[Jack and the Beanstalk (Gray): An illustrated fairy tale storybook, with rather questionable morals, not suitable for children.]

[...]

If Gu Xi hadn’t generated a temporary quest when encountering these fairy tale books, he probably wouldn’t have given them a second glance.

[Temporary Quest: Mysterious Library]

[Quest Description: Collect enough books to enrich the library’s collection]

[Quest Requirement: Collect more than 10 books (0/10)]

[Quest Reward: Library Design Blueprint (Medium-sized).]

[Note 1: Please try to collect books of the same genre; there will be different transformations when rewards are given.]

[Note 2: The library can interact with the magic tower to produce synergistic effects.]

[Note 3: Increasing the library’s collection can enhance its additional attributes, determined primarily by the quality of the library and its collection.]

Because of this temporary quest, Gu Xi straightforwardly bought all these fairy tale books.

Meanwhile, Gu Xi also found the information he wanted within these fairy tales.

It was the fairy tale of three brothers dealing with a Death God.

Inside were stories of the Bone Healing Wood, Resurrection Stone, and an Invisibility Cloak.

This fairy tale made Gu Xi suddenly realize that Shaya transformed undead using a replica of the Resurrection Stone. Her body carried attributes of the Resurrection Stone.

If she didn’t encounter the other two items, it was fine, but if she did, there would naturally be different changes.

This time, Gu Xi obtained another Bone Healing Wood, combined with his profession, which naturally triggered such a temporary quest.

After reading the fairy tales, Gu Xi understood the situation inside.

He just needed to find an Invisibility Cloak, or even without it, some special means of invisibility would suffice to gather the three elements of the Deathly Hallows.

Then, the Death Incarnation he had to face was indeed that Death God, which wasn’t actually too difficult a requirement for Gu Xi.

Closing the fairy tale book in his hand, Gu Xi looked up at the store owner.

”Any more?”

”None left, all the fairy tales are here.”

”Alright, that’ll do. Hey boss, I’ve bought quite a few books here, and these aren’t particularly valuable; any chance of a discount?”

”I’m honestly afraid of you; I don’t understand why you’d come to buy fairy tale books here. This lot totals thirteen books, I’ll give it to you for ten pounds.

You’re not even complaining about the price; you just browsed through them, and these books are all illustrated, some even in color, quite valuable.”

”Alright.”

Gu Xi didn’t refuse, agreeing decisively.

Shaya then tacitly stepped forward to help Gu Xi stack the books.

After paying, Gu Xi had no intention of helping Shaya; instead, he pulled out a parchment-like item and started reading.

[Library Design Blueprint (Medium-sized): Use 500 resources, 10 units of stone, 10 units of wood to construct a library (medium-sized building) in the city.

Once built, the magic tower can research +1 spell slot per floor (requires linkage with the magic tower), the magic academy can train +1 mage (soldier) (requires linkage with the magic academy), the library might randomly spawn mysterious books (collection reaches 100 books), the library might randomly spawn fairy tale characters (more than 10 fairy tale books)...]

Looking at the contents on the parchment, Gu Xi found that although this library and the Owl House he previously acquired were both medium-sized buildings, the library had many more functions.

It was obvious they were not on the same level at all.

Putting away the parchment, Gu Xi reached out to take the fairy tale books from Shaya’s hands.

”Let’s go back.”

”Sir, aren’t we going to stroll around some more?”

Gu Xi paused in his steps, then shook his head, ”Forget it, I’m out of money, plus, some things aren’t found just by looking.”

Shaya didn’t understand what Gu Xi was planning, but since he said so, she didn’t ask further and quickly followed his pace.

On their way there, Shaya led them through shortcuts or back roads.

On the return trip, Gu Xi was quite cheerful, moving forward with a mindset of window shopping.

As long as the route was correct, Shaya didn’t persuade Gu Xi to change direction.

And Gu Xi kept observing the road; unfortunately, in Victoria City, the goods of professionals weren’t as openly displayed as they would be in the countryside.

The stores on the street had nothing that caught Gu Xi’s eye.

Even if some shops were catering to professionals, their signs were painted to be mysteriously cryptic.

Much like Shaya’s starting point at the Destiny Compass, clearly a Thief Guild, dealing in information, yet it bore the sign of a tavern.

This way, who could know the true purpose of each store?

Since Gu Xi didn’t ask, Shaya wouldn’t take the initiative to say, resulting in them missing many shops renowned among professionals.

After having lunch, Gu Xi leisurely returned to Greenwich Street with Shaya.

Before they reached the end of Greenwich Street, Gu Xi saw the former ruins, now covered with green cloth.

A man dressed in a peculiar style stood in the distance, observing every movement within the ruins.

Gu Xi pondered for a moment, glanced at Shaya, and Shaya, understanding instantly, stepped back and disappeared from Gu Xi’s perception.
