Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 401: Volume 5, Chapter 24, Miracle_2

And Reinhardt is the Empire’s hero, an idol for the young, always has been!

These passionate and stubborn youths are always stirred and guided by propaganda. At their naive age, they can’t see through the thick political fog.

By the time they gain enough social experience and life knowledge, history has already become history. Time ultimately doesn’t give anyone a second chance.

Fatty knows it well himself that for a militaristic country like Gazalin, the Leray Federation, which has suffered through invasive wars, harbors no goodwill. This includes himself. He came here not for the Freedom Front, not for Gordon, but for the Leray Federation, for that peaceful country that raised him.

Three hundred years of peace allowed every Leray person to live happily. This country might have corruption, bureaucracy, a huge wealth gap, abuse of power, crime, and various shortcomings, but it is still a country where one can live a simple life. And all of this was shattered under Gazalin’s powerful warships and cannons!

The Galileo Star System has fallen twice, the Newton Star System is ravaged by war fires. Countless Leray people died, many were displaced, and they were originally living peaceful lives before the war broke out. Who dragged them into this doomed disaster? It was James, and every Gazalin person.

This war-exporting country once cheered for their invasion victories. Every one of them supported the war in various ways. They joined the military, paid war taxes, manufactured weapons, supported every invasion command from the Royal Family. Who deserves sympathy? Who deserves pity?

After sacrificing heavily, the Leray people, who were already seeing the dawn of victory and peace, fell back into the hell of war. The Desic Empire, the Jiepeng Empire, and the combined forces of the Western Alliance are bombarding Leray this small to medium-sized country from all sides.

Which Gazalin person cared about this country that they dragged into war?

Thus, Fatty told himself early on that his mission was not to lead the Freedom Front to victory, not to make the Gazalin people live in harmony and peace. His mission was to utilize everything possible to bite the Desic Empire, to give unlimited strikes to any enemy attacking the Leray Federation!

That might be the greatest responsibility he can shoulder.

To be honest, he was a so-called pacifist, living peacefully and long without encountering misfortune was his biggest wish.

He is not a great hero for the country and the people. He is vain, cunning, cowardly, afraid of death, lustful, likes to abuse power, unhygienic, loves to lie, his face is thicker than city walls, heartless, he has every human flaw, and even has flaws that humans do not have.

Such a person, can you expect him to have high awareness?

If it weren’t for being forced to this extent, if not for Ann Lei’s father’s and Russell’s two letters moving him, making him understand a man’s responsibility, making him realize that in this chaotic world, to protect his family, friends, and loved ones, he has to do many things he originally didn’t want to do, he would have retired and gone home long ago to find a safe place to hide and live a small life.

So, risking for the Leray Federation is fine, but to make him brave dangers for unrelated people, that’s utterly ludicrous. Even money can’t convince him.

Fatty admits himself that he’s a bad guy, he has no good intentions. But, does this mean other countries have good intentions?

No!

Reinhardt’s cooperation with the Desic Empire is no different from seeking skin with a tiger.

For the Desic Empire, controlling the Gazalin-Leray Federation-Jiepeng Empire passage is far better than letting others control it. Regardless of who that person is or what they’ve done, in the face of absolute interests, no one would be foolish enough to give it up voluntarily.

Christina wouldn’t understand this. She’s just a girl mocked by fate, she only thinks from a naive Vibo youth’s perspective, believing only through cooperation with Reinhardt can the war end quickly, can Gazalin not be divided further, and everyone live peacefully.

Naive? In the minds of many Vibo youths, they even think they are farsighted. They are too limited by nationalism; they don’t understand that Gazalin’s fundamental issue is national integration. Using twenty percent of the people to continue the oppression of eighty percent populace, such a country won’t have peace.

Fatty scratched his head and cursed, ”I’m just a mechanic soldier, what the hell does this have to do with me? To curse, curse Russell, it’s all that old bastard’s doing.”

He strides towards the base where the bandit army is stationed; to survive in Gazalin, there’s still much to do. First, he needs to modify the Mecha.

”Helen, hurry...”

A director rushed breathlessly into the broadcasting room, handing an electronic document to Helen, the host preparing for the national war special broadcast.

”What’s this?” Helen asked, puzzled, her delicate eyebrows slightly furrowed. There were less than ten minutes before the live broadcast, and all segments of the program were already finalized. How could there be a last-minute addition?

”This is battlefield footage we found from the civilian network!” The director’s eyes were glowing, his face flushed with excitement: ”It’s our hero, he’s not dead, he’s alive!”

”Hero? Who...” Helen inserted the electronic document into the computer, and as the footage appeared, she couldn’t help but cover her mouth: ”It’s him, this is his Mecha!”

On the giant virtual screen in the studio, three [Warriors] were charging towards Desic Mechas several times their number, while in the far corner of the scene, a ghost-like tattered [Magic Beast] swept across, one by one Desic Mechas exploded in front of him.

The entire studio fell silent, everyone felt their brains were a bit flooded. They finally couldn’t hold back, bursting into wild cheers.

[Magic Beast] returned in June 2062, at Leray’s toughest moment, returned!

With the countdown to the live broadcast starting, and as the green lights lit up, Helen’s beautiful smile appeared before Leray viewers. Her expression was more excited than usual, her opening remark was: ”This is a miracle.”

Alright, I admit it, I am shameless, low, despicable, but I won’t be embarrassed. Bite me if you want, but I still want monthly votes. Kill me with them, kill me with them, kill me with them.

In the upcoming plot, Fatty will shine brightly, stay tuned!
