Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 447: Volume 5, Chapter 53: Fierce Battle

In this kind of direct confrontation, any cowardice, hesitation, or indecision will be infinitely magnified until it costs one their life. And any plots and schemes are all ineffective here! The only thing mecha warriors from both sides can do is to maintain their position in the formation, cover, fire, advance at high speed, penetrate, and maneuver! Strictly execute every command from the grassroots commander.

Sitting in the division headquarters or frontline command vehicle, the division commander can only, when finding his troops cannot hold on through SkyNet, throw in his only reserve unit. Or request support from his superiors.

The 181st Division had already completely charged into the heart of the battlefield. The division’s front part had disappeared beyond the horizon, and the only way to vaguely discern the antler-like advancing posture was through the following mecha group. The sounds coming from deep within the battlefield showed they were already fiercely entangled with the attacking Fei Alliance Armored Forces. The dust kicked up by thousands of mechas, the black clouds from explosions, and the thick smoke from missile launches shrouded the entire battlefield.

Reinhardt connected to the regional communication channel of the First Battalion 2nd Company of the 181st Division in the central road. A rush of noise amidst the sounds of artillery overwhelmed him.

”First Company, we’re on your right, speed up and follow!”

”We’ve been blocked, the flanks are under attack, all close-quarters mechas! Will, your company get over here quickly, hurry and support!”

”Too fast, platoon leader, we can’t hold on.”

”Break through to the right, First Platoon, where are you firing?”

”To the right! Dammit, the platoon leader said to the right, don’t get stuck here, those guys are all close-quarters mechas!”

”They’re attacking Third Company! Oh my god, First Platoon is finished.”

”Second Company, organize a defensive formation.”

”Position 1521, calling for artillery cover, calling for artillery cover!”

”[Fierce Beast] 0718, return!”

The communication channel was filled with various panic-stricken voices. Clearly, at the very beginning of the combat, 181st Division, a second-rate armored division of Gazalin, had encountered trouble. Their opponent was stronger than they had anticipated.

On SkyNet, the formation of the 181st Division became somewhat chaotic, with several battalions divided by countless invisible lines. Reinhardt could not help but frown, realizing he had underestimated the enemy’s combat capability.

Facing the Leray Armored Division before him, which had once devoured Osullivan’s entire Mythical Group in one go, their combat strength was not inferior to the Mythical Army! Moreover, their proactive assault disrupted Reinhardt’s earlier deployment, and the 181st Division, during its charge, suffered overwhelming missile attacks, gaining an advantage before direct contact even commenced.

Reinhardt quickly made adjustments. Under his command, the prepared 175th Armored Division would be fully committed to the battlefield in ten minutes, filling the gap behind the 181st Division, compressing the enemy’s penetration routes, preventing the Long Line Ridge defenders from forming a post-penetration maneuver.

Due to Fatty’s series of unexpected attacks in the early stage, Reinhardt’s deployments were disrupted. Facing the hurriedly engaged enemy 181st Division, the Nineteen Division completely controlled the battle situation and rhythm.

The Wolf Pack Tactics and wave-style cover were fully utilized, and decisive charges and penetration offensives rapidly split the two regiments in the center of the 181st Division. Plus, the central bloom of their spherical attack formation and the close-quarters combat advantage gave the Nineteen Division an overwhelming upper hand.

The 181st Division suffered heavy losses upon first contact; within an hour, two armored battalions were annihilated, a regiment was scattered by the heavy assault of Leray Mechas, and while the flanks were forced to retract towards the center, they faced the firing cleansing of hundreds of [Anger] and [Honor] 15 units.

Within just two hours, the entire 181st Division lost a quarter of their personnel! Such results made Bonnie, sitting at the division headquarters, admire Fatty’s sharp intuition. Facing a superior enemy, it’s hard for a commander to grasp the opening so clearly. Even if famous generals were switched in to command, they would usually choose to defend behind the line for steadiness.

But Fatty’s plan not only provided a clear trajectory for the early stage of the campaign but also thoroughly analyzed the terrain of the main battlefield over tens of square kilometers! The detailed combat guidance skillfully mastered the timing of the sortie and the penetration routes.

Executing the battle plan fully, the two regiments from the Nineteen Division and the 25th Division completely suppressed the enemy’s operational area, avoiding facing several armored divisions’ repeated assaults on the defensive line, while fully exploiting the close-quarters combat advantages of the Nineteen Division.

However, this was only the beginning. Upon hearing the news that the Reinhardt Group’s 175th Armored Division was committed to the battle, Bonnie knew the real challenge for the Nineteen Division had arrived.

The enemy’s second armored division was already pressing forward; the initial penetration routes of the Nineteen Division were blocked, large-scale penetration maneuvers were no longer feasible, and some companies that had already infiltrated the enemy’s formation had to retreat proactively to avoid being encircled by heavy enemy forces.

Despite the limited area, Reinhardt could only deploy two armored divisions. Still, the commitment of the 175th Armored Division of Gazalin Level 1 let its long-range firepower fully suppress the Nineteen Division. For the two armored regiments of the Freedom Front’s 25th Division on the flanks, the situation was even more challenging.

”First Battalion, the left side, punch through for me!” Rashid roared in the regimental command channel. His [Warrior] leader was desperately approaching a [Three-headed Dog] medium-sized mecha, both firing and retreating.

The tide of enemies launched fierce attacks on the regiment under strong fire cover. Energy bullets, mounted missiles, and the rear artillery rained down like a torrential downpour on the regiment warriors’ mechas or the land next to them. Now, the regiment was like a reef in a tidal wave, fending off wave after wave of assaults, occasionally stirring up a storm of blood and violence within the enemy’s formation through sudden penetrations.

The First Battalion swiftly executed Rashid’s order. Amid the fire assaults of [Honor] 15 and [Anger], over a hundred [Warrior] Pioneers from the spearhead company responsible for breaking through quickly launched an assault from the left flank, cutting into the freshly arranged medium-sized mecha fire formation on the enemy’s side.

These warriors of the spearhead company were newly selected after Tian Xingjian withdrew the original spearhead company. Their training method, same as the Sharp Blade Camp, was personally developed by Tian Xingjian for special operations. Their mecha adjustments also focused primarily on speed.

This assault stirred up a gale. Both sides had been entangled in such a close-knit formation, there was no way to pull apart. Seeing the left-flank fire formation about to be shattered, hundreds of Ryan Group’s Single Soldier Mechas detached from the front-line combat, horizontally trying to intercept the spearhead company’s penetration route.

At this moment, the other forces of the First Battalion following the spearhead company had already cut through in three directions. Both sides poured fire at each other while advancing at high speed. The red energy bullets bombarded the mechas, causing the energy shields to ripple as if they were on the verge of collapsing.

In this kind of high-speed shooting, the Leray Mecha Soldiers undoubtedly held a substantial advantage. These former Special Soldiers did not lose their skills despite the change in unit nature. On the contrary, with Tian Xingjian’s training, they had a better grasp of mecha long-range attacks. Combined with the agility and evasion capabilities of their modified mechas, like Spirit Cats, the intercepting enemy were being beaten to bitterness.

”Boom!” An energy bullet finally pierced the armor of a [Three-headed Dog], drilling into the mecha and immediately igniting a blazing fire. The retreating [Three-headed Dog] halted, and as the fierce fire ignited the energy module, the mecha exploded into pieces with a deafening roar.

Solving the [Three-headed Dog] before him, Rashid swiftly led the regiment reserve to the right flank. He needed to perform a symmetrical tactical coordination as the First Battalion penetrated the left flank to reduce the pressure facing the Second Battalion on the front! The front attack was too fierce; the Second Battalion was struggling hard.

Glancing sideways, ”Bang!” Rashid pulled the control stick, causing the mecha to leap, toppling a nearby [Warrior] Pioneer with a red energy shield, avoiding two fatal energy cannon shots.

”Move!” Watching the two cannon bullets explode not far away, Rashid pulled the Pioneer up, and amidst a staggering run, two [Warrior]s had already surrounded him, using their bodies to shield their energy-shield-not-yet-recovered comrade.

This battle was fought viciously; the enemy’s mechas still surged like tides. Occasionally, an enemy group penetrated forward from various gaps in the regiment’s area, attempting to split and eventually encircle the regiment fixed within the enemy’s attack formation front.

The 3rd Battalion was temporarily bogged down by a maneuvering enemy force two kilometers away. If the frontal attacking troops were not quickly obliterated, the Second Battalion would suffer crippling bone-deep losses.

The dual-wing assault launched by Rashid proved effective. As the enemy’s left-wing fire formation was shattered, the central enemy couldn’t endure the immense losses and began retreating. At this moment, Rashid’s right-wing offensive cut across, coordinating with the central Second Battalion to initiate a moderate counterattack, causing limited disarray among the frontal enemy.
