Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 442: Volume 5 Chapter 48 Ambush (Last Day for Monthly Tickets)

The warriors and mechas originally stationed at the position have already retreated to the new defense line behind. And because the enemy broke through both flanks, this position held no strategic value and was completely ignored. Fatty chose to hide here because, in addition to the large amount of mecha wreckage and deep trenches that provided cover, it also allowed him to observe the gathering of Reinhardt’s Armored Division.

Deciding to voluntarily abandon the position to shrink defenses was a decision made by Fatty, as Reinhardt had committed so many forces in this direction—too many to eliminate.

In this situation, Fatty chose without hesitation to trade space for time.

Douglas required three days, didn’t he? Fatty gritted his teeth and decided to hold the Long Line Ridge for those three days. During these three days, four Infantry Divisions and one Armored Division of the Freedom Front would resist under his command.

From Douglas’s attitude and tone, Fatty could clearly judge that the battle at Mezrich, as he had envisioned, was a part of the entire operation at Little Pyrenees. Although he didn’t understand what Fiscella’s plan was exactly, Fatty knew deeply the role the six Feiyang Armored Divisions and theirs were playing was essentially the same.

Despite previous conflicts, Douglas, who is somewhat arrogant and opinionated, it’s now most important to work together in the same boat. Fatty didn’t care about the overall battle plan; he only knew that victory was certainly better than failure!

Currently, the role of the Nineteen Division is to cover when the position needs to retreat. This task, given the presence of Little Pi and SkyNet, was relatively not difficult.

Many soldiers of the Freedom Front were puzzled by the Nineteen Division’s mechas always appearing at the position in the most critical moments. In reality, this was because Little Pi had focused all remaining SkyNet reconnaissance resources on monitoring the Long Line Ridge battlefield.

For positions that lost communication and couldn’t call for support, Little Pi could always immediately adjust nearby Nineteen Division Mechanical Warriors to go and support, then utilizing its powerful computing ability, optimally configure the living forces stationed in the rear defense line.

A full twenty-four hours have passed, and Long Line Ridge is still in a stalemate. The two armored division breakthroughs initiated by Reinhardt have been fiercely resisted by the Nineteen Division and the Freedom Front’s twenty-five armored division. The current defense line still has a safe distance from Prisk! As long as the living force in Long Line Ridge is there, as long as Prisk hasn’t fallen, Reinhardt shouldn’t even think about severing the retreat path of the Feiyang Armored Division and the Independent Army.

During this time, Little Pi’s mouth never stopped. Initially, Fatty only intended to vent his anger, to disgust Reinhardt, and of course, it would be best to shake their morale a little. However, with the passage of time, seeing Reinhardt committing more and more forces and launching fiercer offensives, Fatty began to dream of goading Reinhardt into being enraged by Little Pi. He was so eager to strike down Reinhardt in one fell swoop!

As long as this person is killed, all problems will come to an end! Once and for all!

When covering the withdrawal of the Freedom Front, the Nineteen Division would also target and intercept the enemy’s elite armored forces as units. Meanwhile, Fatty remained active almost exclusively on the front lines! To date, he had already intercepted and destroyed more than a hundred mechs.

For the soldiers relying on the Mythical Army, this [Magic Beast], roaming the combat zones mysteriously, was nearly synonymous with death! Many among them have witnessed this decrepit [Magic Beast] go on a killing spree right from the trenches on the front line.

Our mechas, one after another, were destroyed by it. Whether it was the low-end [Holy Armor] series, the mid-range [Holy Sword] series, or medium-sized [Poison Insect], [Three-headed Dog], nothing could withstand the attack from this terrifying [Magic Beast]!

The scenes of clean and efficient slaughter were a nightmare for infantry and common mechanical warriors alike, a terror that made their souls tremble! They had never seen a mecha that fast, that fierce, faced with so many mechas besieging it and still so arrogant!

No matter how many mechas of our side were present, this [Magic Beast] could always stealthily approach to a very close distance and then suddenly launch its attack. Its movements were faster than lightning, striding unhindered through the mecha group like a scythe-wielding death reaper, fiercely eliminating every mecha that stood before it, even dismembering heavy [Fierce Beast] series mechas in a manner close to hacking apart.

Wherever it appeared, there could only be a field full of mecha wreckage left!

Its ambushes were very sudden, its whereabouts very stealthy, but its acts of slaughter were truly arrogant!

It would appear almost anywhere along the long frontline of Long Line Ridge suddenly, launching attacks in full view of all. No matter how many mechas it faced, it would use the same method: ambush, assault, and flee! It would come when it wanted and leave as it wished! Killing along the way, it would even curse as it trodden along!

All Ryan Group soldiers who had seen this mecha were struck dumb, exchanging glances with each other, whispering about Reinhardt and discussing this deathly [Magic Beast].

In the post-energy shield era enduring several decades, as the long-range defenses and evasive capabilities of mechas became ever stronger, the advantage of close combat against energy shields began to manifest. Breaking armor with close quarters has become a fiercely deadly threat mastered by experts.

Regarding the southeastern airspace’s small countries, military mechas have only begun to truly form close combat into a fighting force in just recent years.

Everyone knows that not all Mecha warriors possess close combat abilities. Energy Cannons remain the mainstay in this world’s wars; their power is irreplaceable. No matter how formidable a Mecha might be, if it gets hit with enough shells, it will still turn into a blazing fireball.

Therefore, in the soldiers’ perception, close combat Combat Mechas are the synonym for high-end offensive power in current warfare. It not only places exceedingly high demands on the Mecha itself but also imposes extremely stringent requirements on the operator’s reactions and hand speed.

Many warriors go their entire lives without ever becoming a Mecha warrior, as they do not have the talent to control a Mecha. Among those fortunate enough to become Mecha warriors, the majority cannot surpass the demand of 20 operations per second required for a Level 3 Warrior.

A hand speed of 20 operations per second is the basic requirement for close-quarter combat. It requires not only talent but also long-term, vigorous training and repeated battle honing. Quick hands alone aren’t enough; if the mind isn’t fast, most of the Mecha’s actions are wasted, potentially becoming fatal flaws in close combat.

It can thus be imagined that an Level 8 Mecha Warrior is someone whom ordinary soldiers look up to. In the entirety of human society, there are only tens of thousands at such a skill level.

So, what about a Level 9 Mecha Warrior?

In most people’s minds, a Level 9 Mecha Warrior is a Myth!

In the entire Gazalin, there is only one who has reached such heights! That person is Reinhardt, known as the genius warrior. The Myth created by this individual made every Gazalin warrior in the past revere him.

But now, this Myth is being frantically cursed, humiliated, provoked, and trampled by a self-proclaimed Level 8 Mecha Warrior piloting a broken [Magic Beast].

This self-proclaimed Level 8 Warrior, driving a tattered [Magic Beast], slaughtered over a hundred Mechas in a 24-hour raid. Among those he killed, there were over forty Level 4 and above Mecha warriors, including two Level 7 Warriors from the Mythical Army.

The two Level 7 Warriors, each piloting a [Vajra] with a massive patch of armor on its rear, were killed in a two-minute battle against the tattered [Magic Beast] in a two-against-one fight!

This ruthless kill shocked all non-Mythical Army warriors. They simply couldn’t comprehend why the two Level 7 Warriors died even quicker than some Level 6 Warriors!

These puzzled soldiers began to question the combat effectiveness of the Mythical Army.

Perhaps Reinhardt isn’t really a Level 9 Mecha Warrior either.

Another Mechanical Army unit climbed over the slope through the passage on the flank of the position. Fatty did not move. During the one hour he had been lurking here, he had seen at least three different armored units pass by. This meant the enemy was organizing a breakthrough from this direction.

After deducing and formulating a battle plan, Fatty once again discarded the responsibility of overall command coordination. He always believed his role inside the Mecha was much greater than in the command post. Moreover, this time, someone else was commanding.

When it came to troop movement command, Bonnie was far more adept than himself, a mechanic soldier. The entire set of systems within the military — personnel, weapons and equipment, logistics, and troop movements, reserve forces, and main forces, timing, and attack intensity — Bonnie, a graduate of the Military Academy, was more professional than anyone here. What’s more, she used to be the number two figure in the Mythical Army.

”Damn, can’t find it!” The little kid who had been relentlessly searching for Reinhardt’s whereabouts was exasperated by the large-scale electronic interference and camouflage. Due to the disparity in scale, the current frontline positions were basically covered by the electronic attacks launched by the Reinhardt Group.

Lacking electronic countermeasures support, SkyNet was also somewhat helpless in this situation. After all, as long as it’s in this area, whether it’s satellites, fighter jets, early warning aircraft, or ground radar, Mechas, and detectors spread throughout the entire Gazalin, they have all lost functionality. Given the current electronic countermeasure capabilities of the Nineteen Division, SkyNet could only supervise and mobilize its own troops.

When the little kid addicted to being omnipotent had their eyes and ears covered, how could it not be furious?
