Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 400: Revised: Volume 5 Chapter 24 Miracle

”What... what are you doing?” Fatty saw that Christina’s tone was unfriendly and instinctively covered his chest with his hands, his face pale as he said, ”Can’t we discuss whatever it is tomorrow? It’s late at night, and if word gets out about us being alone like this, my reputation will be ruined... At most...” This scoundrel puckered his lips, ”I’ll let you kiss me.”

Initially, after Fatty’s appearance was restored, he looked different from Zhang Yuan. Christina had learned the truth through various channels but still felt a bit unfamiliar. Seeing his lewd face now, she was certain without a doubt. Before Fatty could finish speaking, Christina, blushing with both embarrassment and anger, had already twisted one of his prominent ears, dragging him into the garden amidst his cries of pain.

”Ugh! You damn fatty...” She let go of his ear and kicked him, angrily saying, ”Stop trying to dodge questions. You lied to me for so long. After everything I did for you, giving you a raise, taking you on blind dates... I even begged everyone when you were in jail...” As she spoke, her anger surged again, and she twisted his ear once more, ”You damned spy!”

Thinking back to the days at Holy Knight Company, Fatty could only smile foolishly, ”Hehe... hehe... hehe...” pretending to be deaf and dumb as if he didn’t understand a word Christina was saying.

”Let me ask you...” Christina, helpless with this rogue, sat down next to him and said softly, ”That... that Bonnie, how did she end up with you?”

This was Fatty’s Achilles’ heel. Remembering his own insane actions, his face turned red, and he evasively said, ”I captured her.”

”So she was your prisoner?” Christina snorted, taking out a hairpin and biting it with her mouth, while her hands gathered her wavy hair, pinning it up again, ”I don’t think so!”

Fatty shyly turned his head away, whispering like a mosquito, ”Later... over time, feelings grew. Sigh...” He gazed at the stars in the sky, sighing deeply, ”Maybe it’s my fate to be entangled in romance. Outstanding men are always plagued by many love affairs...”

”Ugh!” Christina spat at the shameless Fatty, but thinking of his abilities, found herself almost accepting his nonsense. Then her thoughts wandered, her face turned red, showing a mix of shyness and anticipation.

”Are you... really from the Leray Federation?” After a while, Christina nudged Fatty’s arm, curiously asking. She actually already knew the answer, but having been kept in the dark all this time, she couldn’t reconcile this cowardly, sleazy Fatty with all the grand events.

Fatty nodded honestly, yawning as he said, ”Yeah.” After spending the whole day chatting with Gordon in the office, he was a bit sleepy.

”So... you came to Gazalin to be an undercover agent?”

”Yeah, yeah.”

”Was it you who captured His Majesty James?”

”Yeah, yeah.”

”In the Leray Federation propaganda, were you the one who rescued the POWs?”

”Yeah, yeah.”

”Did you also spread the rumors defaming Reinhardt, saying he rebelled and was a bastard child?”

”Yeah, yeah... Ah!”

With a scream, Fatty’s ear was twisted again by Christina.

The girl’s face turned red with urgency, ”Why did you frame him... I told you he wouldn’t do such things, but my dad wouldn’t believe me. Come, you need to explain this to him!”

Tian Xingjian finally realized; Christina was a loyal admirer of Reinhardt, having a childhood crush on him. How could she accept the negative side of Reinhardt? To her, all of this was imposed upon Reinhardt by others. And the main culprit was naturally himself, the enemy country’s Fatty who spread lies everywhere.

Fatty smiled bitterly, wanting to tell Christina the truth. But when he saw tears forming at the corners of her eyes, his heart softened, and for a moment, he didn’t know where to start, only managing to say, ”We’re now opposing forces. Even if we explain everything, what difference will it make?”

”It would... he...” Christina was both anxious and angry, finding herself unable to say what she wanted, feeling both helpless and heartbroken as tears streamed down her face, her body trembling pitifully.

”Maybe, in time, you’ll understand.” Fatty lowered his head. He didn’t want to hurt this girl he had deceived for so long. Some things couldn’t just be explained; she might not accept or believe the truth. Maybe it was better for her to gradually see it on her own.

”I don’t understand! Why has my life turned out like this?” Christina’s voice trembled, ”I also don’t understand why my father is against someone who helped him. I only know that if it wasn’t for you, this Leray spy, everything would be fine!”

She wiped her tears, coldly adding, ”I really hate myself for letting you into the company in the first place!” With that, she turned and left without looking back.

Watching Christina’s somewhat thin back, Fatty sighed. He could well imagine how thrilled this girl must have been when Reinhardt proposed to Gordon to marry her. The dream of a young girl’s first love seemed within reach.

But things didn’t go as she had imagined. Seeing her beloved being pushed further and further by reality, this feeling of having her love crushed was too much for pure-hearted Christina to bear.

To her, the Leray people were ultimately outsiders, enemies. Like many Vibo people thought, no matter Gazalin’s faults, it was still their homeland. And even though Desic forcefully leased Biekelan, they had always been Allies, and their lease was meant to deal with Gazalin’s enemies.
