Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 436: Volume 5, Chapter 42: On the Verge_2

The military police wearing red armbands were much more numerous than before, walking in neat rows on the streets or in the various camps, expressionless. Always ready to salute soldiers who violated military discipline, then take them away directly.

Among the soldiers taken away, belonging to the National Resistance Movement were many more. These national warriors, used to looseness, inevitably made some laughable mistakes in such a place.

The Battlefield Command Headquarters was still the same, the two sentries and the surrounding guard units remained unchanged. However, only by entering the headquarters could one know how much it had changed inside.

The arrival of the Feiyang people brought more advanced communications, radar, and other electronic equipment, filling the Combat Department with more personnel. This old building was almost overcrowded with confidential secretaries, communication soldiers, combat staff, and officers of all levels, no one caring who was in front of them, just busily weaving through the crowd.

The rules of saluting officers had long been thrown out of the window. In such a busy atmosphere, if a bootlicker dared to stop and salute all the way, they wouldn’t get anything done.

Even Gordon, when not accompanied by his adjutant, was once bumped out of the way by a confidential secretary holding a file and running without raising their head. The confidential secretary muttered, ”Such a big block, what’s it doing in the middle of the way!” Of course, it’s easy to imagine their expression after finding out they had bumped into Gordon.

One high-level combat meeting after another was held, and Fatty seemed to have been forgotten after submitting the combat simulation and report requesting reinforcement, which was rejected by the Expeditionary Army Headquarters.

Perhaps it was because without him, there seemed to be fewer troubles, or perhaps because this campaign had already been forcibly pushed forward, leaving no room for adjustment or stopping, so Fatty and the Battlefield Command remained silent in mutual agreement.

The influence of a Major General and division commander was very limited. The only thing he could do was follow orders. Fatty did not object to the Nineteen Division being assigned to the Tanville North-west Defense Line. After all, no matter the situation, it was better to handle things himself. Dealing with the Mythical Army was always the bandit army’s specialty.

The Nineteen Division’s structure had been fully supplemented. Besides the original two regiments and an independent Sharp Blade Camp, an additional reinforced battalion, an electronic camp, and a logistics company were added.

The newly added reinforced battalion was requested by Fatty from Oberto under the guise of an emissary from the Freedom Fighters.

These Freedom Fighters were considered old subordinates of Fatty. Most of them were members of the underground base at the Tanville East District power plant, some had even fought alongside Fatty in Abnosk as part of the Mixed Army.

Back then, upon diverting the Hunter Corps, the Mixed Army escorted James, Bonnie, Prince Sidney, and others to the rendezvous point deep in the mountainous jungle. Along the way, to confuse the tracking enemy, they kept dispersing. Those responsible for attracting the enemy’s attention and a part of the main force left behind did not risk returning to the East District Base, already controlled by Stephen, but joined the Freedom Front’s battle sequence distributed across various places, only recently regrouping.

The commander of the 3rd Group was Jiasier. This Freedom Fighter, who had sparred with Fatty at the base possessing extremely fierce leg skills, had notable expertise in Mecha control.

As a loyal follower of Fatty, after leading the Mixed Army to evade the Hunter Corps’ pursuit while sending the war prisoners and Ann Lei to the spaceship, Jiasier searched for Fatty alone in the mountains for a long time. Later, he was ordered to lead a guerrilla team in a small southern town thousands of miles away. Upon hearing Fatty summoned Freedom Fighters in Prisk, he immediately led his unit to join him without hesitation.

Under the enthusiastic work of Fatty and the little kid, [Logic] was finally completely repaired and modified before the Nineteen Division set off.

Coming out of the assembly shop, [Magic Beast] was still the [Magic Beast], even more dilapidated than before from the outside. The Leray Warriors, who were always proud of their ragged Mecha, were not surprised. What shocked them was that the current [Magic Beast] was nearly a meter shorter than its previous six-meter height! Making it look sturdier and more compact.

This reduction by a meter wasn’t simply done by cutting off a section of the legs or body, but indicated a complete change in the structure of [Magic Beast]! What had changed, no one knew. However, just watching Fatty secretly demonstrate an automatic retractable cockpit identical to [Divine], everyone was speechless. The two Mechas Fatty had damaged were not even fixed yet, but he had already shamelessly used someone else’s technology.

The overall war situation in the universe was intensifying step by step with the sudden ”Sky Lock” offensive by the Western Alliance. Although it didn’t seem like the main offensive of the Binart Empire, the simultaneous mobilization of over ten Western Alliance member countries to attack and occupy the star systems where the space jump points were located plunged the Fei Alliance member countries into full-blown panic. They suddenly realized how terrifyingly isolated they were behind those fragmented interstellar routes.

Counterattacks and resistance unfolded as scheduled, but all expectations were still centered on the ever-calm Feiyang Republic, focused on the wheelchair-bound Military God who appeared to be asleep.

The Feiyang Republic still did not take significant actions. The Supreme Military Command of the Fei Alliance sent a message to its member countries with just four words: Resist Locally. Wasn’t that nonsense, the enemy was already at their door, if they didn’t resist, what could they do?

The Feiyang Republic seemed only to have its eyes on the Karsdon Star River standoff and the southeastern Leray Channel, sending not a single soldier to other countries in trouble.

One conscription act after another, one military procurement budget after another, brought these attacked Fei Alliance member countries into a flaming state of national mobilization. Soldiers became the protagonists of this period. One warship after another clashed in the vast starry sky while battles on planetary grounds were even more intense. The war seemed to have escalated in the blink of an eye.

On July 14, 2062, confirmed intelligence showed that the Stephen Group had begun attacking the resistance forces within their controlled areas, and the battles were fierce. The timing for the campaign initiation had matured.

On July 15, 2062, the Nineteen Division set off, entering the Long Line Ridge Battlefield in the Tanville North-west region. Before them, four mechanized infantry divisions and one armored division from the Freedom Front had already arrived to take over the battlefield defense.

At midnight on July 16, over a thousand land-based fighters took off within two hours, forming three attacking waves, flying eastward. Simultaneously, space fighters released from three space carriers also penetrated the atmosphere, prepared to launch consecutive strikes following the land-based fighter attack formations.

The battle was about to begin.
