Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 414: Volume 5, Chapter 30 Fiscella_2

Now, it seems that Hall has also encountered trouble. After months of fierce attacks, though the Galileo Star System was captured, troops and generals were lost. Several main fleets were even battered out of formation by the Leray people, and the attacks on the Newton Star System’s Space Jump Point repeatedly ended in frustrating retreats due to the resolute resistance of the Leray people.

It is said that within Desic, there have been voices questioning Hall, and the Royal Family has sent representatives to the front lines to understand the situation.

Fiscella chuckled, wondering what expression Hall had when he learned that the second Southeast Expeditionary Army of Fei and Lei had invaded the Little Pyrenees. In his hands, [Hall] is destined to become the next fallen great general!

”General!” A clear voice interrupted Fiscella’s thoughts. He withdrew his gaze from the vast starry sky and looked towards the office door. The visitor was his own protégé, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Second Southeast Expeditionary Army’s Combat Department, Major General Douglas.

Douglas was a subordinate of Fiscella when he served as the commander of the First Army Armored Division, graduating from the Hydefield First Military Academy. Due to his outstanding performance, he was directly appointed as a platoon leader in one of the most elite units of the Feiyang Republic, the First Army Armored Division.

This young man, only twenty-eight years old this year, with brown-yellow hair of medium build, was born into a family of generals, and has a natural fervor as a soldier. After taking on the role of platoon leader, his platoon almost gathered all honors, whether in training or in war!

A year later, he was promoted to Captain and platoon leader, and after another year, to Major and battalion commander, and another year later, he became the youngest leader of the main force group in the First Division.

Two years later, when Fiscella was promoted to Deputy Commander of the 3rd Group Army of the Republic Guard, he recommended Douglas to take over as the commander of the First Army Division to the Military Department.

It can be said that Douglas rose smoothly through the ranks, and this was certainly related to his distinguished background, but his abilities and military talent have also made his rise unarguable. However, Fiscella knew that although Douglas showed great respect for him and was very humble, he had an extremely proud and arrogant personality, stemming from his genius and rapid ascent.

”Sit.” Fiscella looked at the upright Douglas and nodded with satisfaction. The greatest merit of this young man was that no matter the occasion, he always acted like a true soldier.

”Yes, General.” Douglas sat down, his body still as straight as a gun, hands naturally placed on his knees, in a standard military sitting posture.

”I’ve reviewed the battle plan you oversaw and submitted from the Combat Department.” Fiscella pressed a button on the desktop, projecting a large virtual map on the wall, pointing to several marked red arrows on the map: ”The battle plan is excellent, you’ve thought of everything I could have. However...in these places, there will be significant casualties. Don’t you think the cost is too high?”

”General.” Unmoved by Fiscella’s nearly accusatory tone, Douglas’s cold face showed no expression as he said deeply: ”Both you and Marshal Hastings have taught us that victory requires costs. There’s no such thing as too big or small a cost, only if it’s worth it. I’ve always kept that in mind, and regarding this battle plan, I stand by my judgment that it is worth it!”

Fiscella smiled slightly, apparently having long agreed with this quite standard and brilliant battle plan. Moreover, the troops sacrificed in this plan were not from the Southeast Expeditionary Army. The choice now is whether to select troops from the Independent Army, the Newly-built 19th Leray Division, or the Freedom Front for this effort.

For Fiscella, since these Mixed Army units did not possess the combat power of the Expeditionary Army, they were destined to be sacrificed in war. The only difference was when and where the sacrifice would be.

Victory comes at a price, a famous saying of Marshal Hastings, and has always been the motto of everyone in the Feiyang Military.

This was originally a truth, especially after being validated by a massive victory that elevated the Republic to the universe’s first superpower at the cost of sacrificing several top divisions of the Republic. No one doubted this saying anymore.

Fiscella picked up a document from the desk and handed it to Douglas, saying: ”I have signed off on the battle plan and appointed you as the supreme commander of the Mezrich Battlefield. However...” he tapped his fingers on the table repeatedly, somewhat helplessly saying: ”The troops you will lead in Mezrich are a ragtag bunch, although the fleets will provide air cover during the battle, and you have six regular armored divisions at your disposal. Still, if you can’t integrate all the forces and execute orders flawlessly, this battle might unfold in a way I’d rather not see.”

”General.” Douglas’s mouth curled ever so slightly, abruptly saying: ”I understand what I need to do, and I assure you, this will be a beautiful victory!”

”Very well!” Fiscella smiled slightly, ”Currently, the hero of the Leray Federation is in charge of the battlefield...” speaking of this hero promoted by Leray, his smile had a slight mocking implication: ”You need a good conversation with him; in their previous reply, they proposed a decapitation strategy. Clearly, they don’t believe that with these forces, a complete annihilation of the enemy is possible.”

”That’s because they don’t understand our combat capabilities, nor do they understand that by splitting the enemy and defeating them piece by piece, it leads to a total collapse of their lines. At that point, one infantryman can capture ten Mecha! As for that hero...” Douglas, evidently disdainful of that hero, said: ”I will show him what real war looks like!”

In the massive Mecha assembly workshop, the automated conveyor belts were in full swing assembling the spherical escape pod-style miniature Mecha designed by Fatty. Biting his finger, Fatty was deep in thought over the decapitation strategy. After a long time without any leads, he finally decided to take a break and try a different approach.

A man nudged Nia coyly with his elbow next to him and said: ”There’s a question I’ve never figured out.”

Nia blinked and asked curiously: ”What question?”

”Back then...” Fatty asked seriously: ”Why didn’t you and Meiduo accept my invitation to jointly take my chastity?”

”I’ll bite you to death! Pervert!”
