Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 222, War Drummer

Translator: Silavin

[The second wave of Monsters has not been cleared. Why is the third wave already starting?] Lu Fan was slightly taken aback. He soon realised that the so-called Demon Patrols and Flying Earth Demons, as well as the Monsters that were about to appear, all belonged to the second wave of Monsters. It was just that there was a brief time difference between the appearance of the two groups of Monsters. The Demon Patrols would entangle the enemy, then the real second wave of Monsters would appear, joining forces with the Demon Patrols and Flying Earth Demons to kill the enemy.

However, Lu Fan was simply killing them too quickly. The most troublesome Demon Patrols had barely appeared before being wiped out by him.

Lu Fan did not even need to pay much attention to whether the upcoming wave was the second or third wave of Monsters. As long as the Monsters could provide points and Experience Points, they were all ‘generous’ Monsters in his eyes!

Lu Fan, riding on Xiao Ye, looked down from above to see what this next wave of Monsters would be.

As the massive gate of the Dark Castle opened, the rumbling sound of war drums echoed from within. It was accompanied by the roars of various Monsters. Wave after wave of Monsters poured out in extremely large numbers!

The emerging Monsters were of two types. Some were giants standing ten metres tall, with bloated, fat bodies and bright blue skin. They had two heads, but each head had only one eye. They wielded huge wooden clubs, with what looked like meat shields. Lu Fan learned through Appraisal that these Monsters were called Two-Headed and could use Fire Element Magic despite their appearance.

The other type of Monster was smaller in stature, looking very much like Goblins, called Demon Hunters.

The Demon Hunters were not numerous, but as soon as they appeared, the Flying Earth Demons landed beside them. Each Demon Hunter climbed onto the back of a Flying Earth Demon, forming a new Monster called Demon Knight.

Once combined, these Elite Monsters, Flying Earth Demon, instantly upgraded to be Bronze Boss Demon Knights, with their Attributes skyrocketing far beyond those of the Demon Patrols.

At the same time, all the Demon Hunters on the Demon Knights carried short bows, clearly capable of Ranged Attacks.

Besides these two types of Monsters, surrounded by Two-Headed Ogres, there was another Monster with an extremely ugly appearance. It was like a beastman, riding a Mount that looked very much like an Earth Dragon. It carried no weapons, but had two huge animal skin drums.

The war drum sound from earlier had come from this beastman.

Waves of sound rippled out from his animal skin drums, transforming into a Buff that caused the Attributes of all the Monsters present to surge!

Moreover, the four Two-Headed Ogres beside him were clearly different from the others. Their skin was blackish purple, they were even larger, and their weapons had changed from wooden clubs to iron rods.

Lu Fan used Appraisal on them as well. Sure enough, the mounted one was a genuine Platinum Grade Boss (Difficulty Boss), a War Drummer.

The four Two-Headed Ogres beside him were also Gold Grade Bosses – Two-Headed Ogre Guards (Normal Boss).

[As expected of the Dark Castle, it is only the second wave of Monsters, yet not only are there so many Monsters, but there are also Bosses acting as guards and different types of Monsters that could cooperate with each other.]

If representatives from the other countries encountered this, they would likely have been held up by the Demon Patrols, then bombarded by the Demon Knights and Two-Headed Ogres in turns.

After this wave of Monsters appeared, they unreasonably began attacking Lu Fan.

The Demon Knights roamed in mid-air, drawing their bows and releasing a rain of arrows towards Lu Fan and Xiao Ye.

At the same time, the Two-Headed Ogres below waved their wooden clubs, with fireballs igniting at the tips. As they swung their clubs, the fireballs flew into the air, some directly targeting Lu Fan, others blocking Lu Fan and Xiao Ye’s escape routes.

The Skills of so many High Level Monsters made Lu Fan worry about the safety of Xing Chen, the still Baby Dragon.

So Lu Fan called out loudly, “Xing Chen, fall back and take cover!”

Xing Chen made an *Ang* sound, obediently no longer charging in the front line.

Lu Fan, using his usual tactics, ordered Xiao Ye to use Great Cataclysm and Void Break, two Skills to clear the field.

The Demon Knights in the sky should be able to escape the range of Great Cataclysm, but the Two-Headed Ogres below and the Boss War Drummer would have difficulty escaping Great Cataclysm’s effects.

Lu Fan used all three remaining Void Break charges, tracing a ‘Z’ pattern in mid-air.

Instantly, Xiao Ye and Lu Fan transformed into a huge fireball, neutralising the incoming arrows and fireballs, while also smashing through the airborne Demon Knights, destroying over half of them.

After the three Void Break charges, the effect of Great Cataclysm suddenly manifested.

A wall of fire over a hundred metres high suddenly rose up, turning the open space in front of the Dark Castle into a Sea of Flames!

The use of these two powerful Skills not only neutralised the Monsters’ attacks but also dragged all ground units into the Sea of Flames, instantly turning the situation around.

This left Zhao Shengming, who had never seen Lu Fan use Great Cataclysm and Void Break before, tongue-tied in the observation room. Even the widely experienced Elder Han could not hide the surprise on his face.

However, they soon realised that although Lu Fan’s two Skills were incredibly powerful, the Monsters from the Dark Castle seemed to have some tricks up their sleeves as well.

When Great Cataclysm’s power first erupted, quite a few Two-Headed Ogres were indeed engulfed by the flames and burned to ashes. However, the War Drummer reacted quickly, immediately beating the two war drums beside it. Instantly, all the Monsters were enveloped in a reddish-black light shield.

This light shield was clearly a defensive Buff. After being covered by this shield, the Two-Headed Ogres who were about to die from Great Cataclysm immediately escaped the danger.

The flames of Great Cataclysm scorched all the shielded Monsters, but the shields’ defence was impressive. Combined with the War Drummer constantly refreshing the Skill, the Two-Headed Ogres actually managed to withstand Great Cataclysm!

Lu Fan was naturally frustrated at the sight of this, as this was the first time Great Cataclysm had failed to clear out a large swarm of Monsters.

Although Lu Fan believed that the War Drummer could not keep refreshing shields for all Monsters indefinitely, and that the shields would eventually be broken by Great Cataclysm, Lu Fan wanted to gain points and Experience Points quickly. Also, although the attacks from these High Level Monsters were almost negligible due to the Damage Reduction from Dragon Skin, Lu Fan still did not want his two ‘Daughters’ to have any chance of being injured.

So, Lu Fan naturally set his primary target on the Boss, War Drummer.

Once this Boss was eliminated, the remaining Monsters without their Buff, would naturally perish under Great Cataclysm.

Lu Fan initially wanted Xiao Ye to use her strongest Single Target Skill, Magma Burst, to instantly kill the Boss, but he suddenly had a feeling, and looked up. There, he saw that Xing Chen had flown high into the sky, directly targeting the War Drummer.

Before that, Xing Chen had already communicated through their spiritual connection, telling Lu Fan that she wanted to deal with this Boss herself!
