Counterfeit Hero

”Boom!”

An energy bullet crashed onto the mecha wreckage in front of the position.

The violent airflow from the explosion shot in all directions, with gravel and metal debris of various sizes striking the bulletproof walls like a torrential rain, producing a dense collision sound. Some of them adhered to the position, piercing into the mud walls behind the trench with a soft thud.

Feischer, who had long hidden his body behind the bulletproof wall, quickly slid down from the firing position, pulled his dazed companion, and rolled into the explosion-proof pit under the trench.

Explosions continued to resound on the battlefield. The entire combat trench was completely covered by artillery fire. Mud and stones that were blasted into the air kept falling, making crackling sounds. The airflow churned by shockwaves rampaged through the trench, rolling dust clouds were pushed around, and sections of the trench collapsed. The bulletproof walls and explosion-proof armor had been twisted into scrap metal. The ammunition that couldn’t be moved exploded under the covering artillery fire, with violent explosions and towering flames turning the entire position into a fiery hell.

Feischer lay in the pit with a wide grin, breathing on the medal in his hand.

He lovingly polished the Fierce Bandit medal, made from an old-fashioned brass shell casing, with his sleeve, admiring it from every angle.

This medal was a result of his suggestion.

According to the platoon leader, when his suggestion was reported to the command center, Markovich was stunned for a moment, then jumped up three feet high in excitement, urgently ordering the SM Fourth Group from the base to deploy in the southeast, southwest, northwest, and northeast areas, waiting for the 3rd Group to rotate during battle pauses.

However, the enemy’s attack was overwhelmingly fierce, and only one company from the 3rd Group had the chance to rotate. Other troops were still fighting on the outskirts, unable even to retreat.

A gust of air carrying dust rushed into the pit; Feischer turned, spit out the mud that had entered his mouth, and suddenly felt something wrong.

Earlier, it was the enemy’s artillery barrage before the assault.

Typically, such a strike would last at least twenty minutes and would include several extensions and repeats. Usually, they would plow through the entire position, completely suppress the bandit army’s self-propelled artillery, and only then launch the charge and extend firepower decisively deep into the position.

But now, the intensity of the artillery fire that hit the position was much weaker than previous attacks. And, from what Feischer heard, the enemy’s artillery was clearly extending deeper, as that unique sound of the Energy Cannon flying through the air, like a train through a tunnel, couldn’t be mistaken. He could even judge the impact points of the shells based on the pitch and proximity of the sound.

Feischer suddenly rolled out of the pit, bent at the waist, and ran along the combat trench to the intersection with the traffic trench, climbing up to the nearest firing position.

What appeared before his eyes left his mind blank.

The entire sky was covered by the streaks of energy light flowing up from the enemy’s position, with those light spheres dragging long tails flying in the direction of Puluo Town like a doomsday meteor shower. Higher in the sky, missiles left trails of smoke tapering from thick to thin as they flew towards Puluo Town.

Endless explosions and soaring flames dyed the entire sky red. Puluo Town had already become a burning hell!

”Those bastards!”

Feischer suddenly turned around, his eyes towards the enemy’s position turning blood red!

*************************************************************************

In the study of the small building, when new real-time war reports and the Central City tactical map appeared on the virtual screen, the room fell silent.

Su Ke stood up from the sofa, paced to the window, and slowly said, ”It seems it’s time for us to take action.”

No one responded. The officers stared blankly at the war reports and tactical map.

Seeing the already torn-apart Central City Northern Alliance defense system, looking at that arrow pointing directly at the First Aviation Port, everyone was so astonished they couldn’t speak.

What sort of monstrosity is that bandit army mecha team?

They had just miraculously annihilated the Northern Alliance Fourth Armored Battalion, and in a blink, they took down two companies of the Second Armored Battalion. Not to mention their raids north and south, annihilating Northern Alliance Infantry along the way and attacking bases and warehouses! Is this still just a mecha team? This is practically a steel knife piercing the belly of tofu!

All military theories, modern armored warfare rules, and tactical standards have been overturned. These fifty mechas accomplished what at least an armored group should be capable of! The officers of the Longxing Association suspected if they didn’t act, this armored team might, bite by bite, devour the Northern Alliance completely!

”Domestically, the Summer Offensive has begun. The army has already landed on the Main Star of Resk.” Su Kezhou said, ”After waiting so long, this is our best opportunity!”

No one contradicted him; the new tactical map was too appealing for the Longxing Association, or to put it more seriously, it was practically tailored for them! The recall of the two Blood Shadow Armored Battalions from the Northern Industrial Zone, the Central City Northern Alliance withdrawing the defense line, plus that arrow shooting straight to the First Aviation Port...no one present could resist such temptation.

The officers exchanged glances; while others might not understand, they were well aware of the Longxing Association.

The greatest secret of the Longxing Association isn’t grounded; it’s in space! A powerful fleet is the Longxing Association’s biggest strategic advantage!

Initially, to control the channel, the Longxing Association appeared under the guise of an interstellar trade commerce group. From its formation, they focused their strategic priorities on space. After all, Mars is just a resource-less planet, but controlling space means controlling the entire Mars Channel!
