Counterfeit Hero

”Everyone, for f*ck’s sake, follow me!” The sergeant was nearly insane. He never expected that the soldiers, who usually wouldn’t dare to fart in front of him, would embarrass him so badly in front of the captain. Thinking about the captain’s livid face not far away, the sergeant wished he could shoot those guys right then and there!

”Sergeant, the captain is dead!” A soldier poked his head out and pointed to the troop transport vehicle in the distance.

The sergeant turned back in shock, only to see that at the very moment he signaled the soldiers to follow him, several energy bullets landed in the area where the troop transport vehicle was located. The captain, who had just been yelling at him with full authority, along with the transport vehicle and dozens of soldiers, had turned into a pile of charred wreckage and bodies on the ground.

”Hold your position!” The sergeant quickly dashed behind a crumbling wall.

”Boom!” A deafening explosion came from the direction of the Inner River Bridge.

Just after darting behind the crumbling wall, the sergeant felt as if the sky suddenly darkened, and all sounds became almost inaudible in his ears.

Three minutes later, the sergeant and his soldiers slowly crawled up a heap of collapsed debris at the street corner.

The majestic bridge over the vast Inner River had completely broken apart. Only the portions connecting the banks barely stood.

The oddly shaped green fat Mechas were nowhere to be seen.

On this side of the riverbank, tens of thousands of soldiers emerged from behind cover, staring blankly at the bridge. The enemy had escaped, disappearing on the other side of the river despite the massive army’s assault. That was the direction of the Northern Alliance’s main base... Everyone felt a chill. Setting up a temporary bridge or detouring to another bridge capable of handling heavy machinery would take at least an hour! In this time frame, who knows what that terrifying Mecha Team might do... only God knows!

”Speed up, front team focus fire to clear the way...” Fatty’s voice came through the headset.

The Mecha Warriors silently piloted their Mechas, racing down the wide streets at breakneck speed. After crossing the Inner River Bridge, the Northern Alliance’s defensive line was left behind. From here to their base, apart from roaming patrol teams and armored units dispatched to intercept, there were no fixed defense lines. Even scattered sentry posts, checkpoints, and gun positions along the way turned to dust under the fierce and precise fire of the Pentium Mecha Team.

Although the operation went smoothly, the Mecha Warriors felt a bit heavy-hearted.

Even though Fatty tried to act unbothered, everyone knew what had happened—when that General Saleria communicated with Fatty; the trembling Fatty hadn’t noticed he left the cockpit hatch open. All the dialogue was clearly overheard by the Mech Knights.

From the fall of the Bermuda Star Domain, the Leray Coup, to the present Western Alliance invasion of the Leray Central Star Domain... the Mech Knights had no idea how many more blows Fatty could endure.

Fatty was obviously not as calm as he pretended to be.

This was evident from his actions as well.

In previous operations, everybody had to give it their all to barely keep up with Fatty piloting the ”Ranger” 01 Mecha. Whether attacking the enemy’s Perfume Street defenses or penetrating the deep defense lines, he was always at the forefront. His precise firepower demonstrated a repressed anger amid the bursts of blood. He was entirely committed to the battle, destroying everything in sight!

Everyone knew Fatty’s Mecha skills... or rather, didn’t know... In short, the entire bandit army often speculated about the true level of this person, believed to have inherited several hundred or even a thousand years of Mecha close combat fighting skills, bringing them to another height.

But no one could guess accurately! Even if someone with a curious mind tried to connect with mainstream civilian networks to painstakingly gather information about Fatty’s past, no one could deduce his level. After all, Fatty from three years ago and now are incomparable.

No one knew Fatty’s maximum speed, what brilliant techniques were in his mind, or how these techniques combined with his speed could reach such heights.

As some Sect Masters of the Mingxin Sect said, he was unfathomable! They even believed Fatty’s speed could reach the terrifying standard of seventy actions per second! That was nearly the standard of a Special-Level War God on Earth in God’s Domain! Moreover, Fatty’s techniques had the effect of speed amplification!

What these speeds and techniques would be like in actual combat is what everyone desperately wanted to witness. Not just ordinary combat, but that kind of all-out battle! Like a racing car renowned for its speed, people wanted to know just how fast it could go!

And now, within Fatty’s repressed rage, the Mech Knights witnessed it. Apart from being overwhelmed, no one could describe their feelings in other words.

Forget about close-quarters Mecha fighting; just the speed and agility of the ”Ranger” 01’s terrifying long-range firepower were enough to leave people amazed. The Mecha’s performance had been pushed to its limits; many actions thought to exist only in Mecha design theory became flowing like water under Fatty’s control.

The ”Ranger” 01 was doing multiple things simultaneously: running, jumping, dodging, signaling hand gestures, accurately shooting energy cannons, sweeping with energy machine guns, missile locking... all its actions were so natural there was no sense of astonishment. But only when you observe closely, realizing the above actions were all executed simultaneously, achieving pinpoint destruction of a Mecha, blowing up an armored transport, or mowing down a row of scattered running soldiers, do you understand what an incredible skillset this is.

The Super Spearhead Battalion was getting closer and closer to the Northern Alliance’s main base.

The rays of sunrise penetrated the gaps between the tattered urban buildings, spilling over the ruins.

When only six blocks from the Northern Alliance base, a tide of Northern Alliance Mechas flooded in at the end of the street.

”Weii Jianshan!”

”Present!”

”You lead the First Combat Team to flank from the left.”

”Yes!”

”Hagrove!”

”Present, Colonel!”

”You lead the Second Combat Team to hold the intersection and prevent the enemy from flanking us from the rear.”

”Yes!”

”Kolt!”

”Present, Colonel!”

”You take the third combat team to flank the enemy from the central garden.”

”Understood!”

”The other two combat teams, follow me!”

The ”Ranger” 01 jogged slowly, facing the direction from which the enemy was flooding in.

The body lilted up and down with the rhythmic stride of its mechanical legs. Gradually, the jog turned into great strides, the speed increasing. When the Northern Alliance’s armored units reached the middle of the street, twenty green Mechas, springing across like meteors with storming speed, reached their peak!

”Long live Leray...” Fatty glared at the approaching Mecha group, growling lowly.

In his low growl, the green Mechas, like arrows launched in three directions, slightly paused, then quickly spread out with even greater speed.

Getting closer, countless shells exploded around the ”Ranger”.

At the moment when both sides collided like crashing waves, Fatty, with all his might, released all the air from his lungs through his throat, letting out a roaring bellow echoing the sky.

”Long live Leray!”

As the shout started, suddenly, forty-nine racing green Mechas responded with a strange cry, howling in unison.

”Woo-ah!”

The two voices, echoing each other, rose higher and higher! Finally turning into a thunderous crash....

”Kill!”
