Counterfeit Hero

Among the targets under attack, there was a certain section of the defense line, a station of an infantry regiment, a logistics transit station, a warehouse storing supplies, a gun repair shop, and a large bridge.

Enraged, the command center mobilized nearly all the deployable troops, attempting to restrict the movement space of the Bandit Army Mecha Team, to hold them in place and annihilate them. Therefore, despite being ordered not to go too far from each other, the First and Second Battalions of the Blood Shadow Mecha Group were racing back and forth around the main base, coordinating with infantry to form temporary interception points to compress....

Sedep believed that the guy leading that bandit small team was definitely an expert in playing hide and seek. From East Second District to West First District, then to East 1st District, finally back to East Second District..... the two Blood Shadow Armored Battalions were nearly driven crazy by the opponent! Most of the time, they couldn’t even see the opponent’s shadow; they only knew from orders and information transmitted from the headquarters about who the opponent attacked again and where they went, followed by the cancellation of previous action orders, changing directions, and continuing the pursuit.

Several times, the reconnaissance teams responsible for spreading out and keeping watch almost caught the opponent’s tail. Sedep himself even saw a Green Mecha waddling over a small hill less than a kilometer away from him.... But, so what, every time at these moments, a warning would come from headquarters about overall distance disconnection. If the pursuit continued, friendly forces would not be able to reach in time to provide support. And by the time the friendly forces arrived at the corresponding position, those Green Mechas would have long disappeared to somewhere else.

Sedep found it somewhat amusing; not only was he being led by the enemy, but he was also dragged by the tail by friendly forces. Such actions, aside from wasting some spirit and physical strength, had no real meaning. After wandering in circles for several hours, even the most robust person in the company like himself felt a bit tired; other companions probably suffered even more. This kind of meaningless maneuvering, with no target, repeated running was a double hit to both body and mind.

Soon, the order was issued through the team channel. Sedep smiled bitterly; no wonder Elmer was angry, the third company and the first battalion once again drew apart. Coming from the south, they were delayed by more than twenty minutes because the bandit small team had just blown up the road bridge over the Inner River, and the engineers failed to complete the deployment of the temporary bridge before they arrived. This meant that the two companies from the Second Battalion had to turn back the way they came, trying to move closer to the Inner River Road Bridge to avoid overall disconnection and to avoid making the same mistakes as the Fourth Battalion.

The communication channel was filled with curses and complaints. Sedep turned his head and saw the ”Gust” just entering the Evgreen District, chaotically turning around on the spot, waiting for the mechas behind to turn and leave. Meanwhile, those parked at the Little Boy Central Plaza were also in a mess; the quicker ones had already started their mechas, pushing forward, while the slower ones were still closing the cockpits they had just opened....

Any strict discipline, order, was now nowhere to be seen.

Complaining is human nature. It is also the most contagious virus. Hours of running back and forth had exhausted everyone and drained their patience. What’s even scarier, including Sedep himself, was that the trust and obedience towards the command center had now turned into doubt...... Those staff officers spoke without concern, damn it, what were they thinking with such idiotic maneuvers?

Beside him, the other six mechas responsible for expanding the alert had already come over.

Sedep lit a cigarette, watching his companions stand beside him crookedly; one guy even controlled his mecha to sit cross-legged on the ground, as if that would let the mecha rest. This group was mostly locals from Mars, and they often complained and were even angry in private about the actions of the Northern Alliance during this period.

Since the rear team was turning into the front team, it was not up to these people to handle the alert now. Suddenly, Sedep had a feeling as if they had just watched a movie, waiting for the crowd to leave. They didn’t want to join in this chaos.

The dynamic scanner sounded a beeping warning. Sedep ignored it. This thing couldn’t distinguish friend from foe. Now, the two companies of ”Gust” were jostling back and forth messily; it would be strange if the scanner didn’t issue a warning.

The warning sound became hysterical, and the annoyed Sedep raised his head, reaching to turn off the switch. Then, he saw the scene he would never forget until he died........

In the distance, among the ruins, dozens of Green Mechas dispersed, skimming across the ground, rushing towards the gathered Red Mecha Group.

It was as if, in the grass, dozens of hunting green wolves surged in waves, charging swiftly!
