Counterfeit Hero

The subsequent battle quickly slipped out of Feiler’s control.

As the Supreme Commander, he could only make deployments at a strategic level. The specific battles and tactics were absolutely impossible for him to interfere with. Those were responses made by grassroots officers based on the situation at the time and place. Even the Military God Hastings could not remote-control a specific battle.

Therefore, the next piece of bandit army information Feiler received could only be from the battle report after a unit was attacked. Falling behind one step leads to falling behind at each step, even though Feiler had swiftly made adjustments and commanded the troops to defend desperately, he still couldn’t catch the enemy’s tail. That damned Leray fatty seemed to always be one step ahead of his maneuvers!

And upon learning that the troops heading to meet Second Battalion’s First and Second Companies were blocked by the nearly three-kilometer-wide Inner River after the inner river highway bridge was blown up, he realized that the two companies of Second Battalion were in danger! In the turns and twists, the bandit army lured them into a trap. That blown-up bridge severed the connection between the two units that were supposed to protect each other.

Sure enough, as soon as he ordered the two companies of the Second Battalion to move toward the east bank of the Inner River, he received news that the troops encountered a bandit army mecha team’s attack.

Those fifty mechas took less than half an hour to swallow two companies’ over two hundred mechas. By the time Blood Shadow First Battalion and the remaining Third Company of Second Battalion arrived at the combat area, the bandit army had already disappeared without a trace. In the Evgreen District, they left behind only burning wreckage scattered everywhere.

The combat power of this mecha team had already exceeded Feiler’s imagination.

From the attack on Perfume Street frontline to now, the Northern Alliance lost nearly a thousand mechas and close to five thousand soldiers! The wounded were countless! And those incinerated logistics hubs, warehouses, bases. The shattered defense systems. One mecha team brought a catastrophe to the Northern Alliance!

Feiler found it hard to believe all this was fact and not a nightmare. His plans were perfectly shattered, yet didn’t know by what means the opponent did it, his frontline was torn apart leaving him unable to catch sight of the opponent’s shadow. His armored troops were wiped out systematically, yet the opponent didn’t lose even one mecha!

On the side wall, a segment of battle reality filled with blood and fire was being repeatedly played.

In there, a voice was screaming, ”Long live Satan!” A sense of powerlessness surged within Feiler’s heart, he had heard a myriad of battle cries during charges, some yelling for God’s blessing, but none yelling long live Satan! With only fifty men operating unhindered behind enemy lines, this was a devil’s army!

”Report, the outer checkpoint of First Aviation Port has been attacked.”

Feiler stared blankly, as if he heard nothing.

The reporting staff had trembling lips. Though he had tried to make his voice sound mechanical, each time he reported such information, a part of his courage drained away. Now, if asked to repeat what he just said, he truly lacked the courage.

Feiler lightly waved his hand, freeing the sweat-soaked staff.

Feiler had already judged from the bandit army’s high-profile operational movements that First Aviation Port would be attacked.

That fatty, didn’t hide his strategic intentions at all.

As the largest ground airport on Mars, First Aviation Port directly connects with sixteen spaceports controlled by the Northern Alliance. It is the Northern Alliance’s important material transfer base and the most vital strategic base!

Due to Mars Free Port being prohibited by the Human Supreme Council from housing strategic weapons like fighter jets, the Sect War erupted without an aerial supremacy contest. Strange yet true. Without fighter jet escort, given the slow ascent and landing of transport ships, implementing troop transport within the atmosphere faced missile strikes from other forces.

Especially in Central City under watchful eyes of surrounding forces, any transport ship or warship hindered by the atmosphere meant death. Thus, for rapid strategic troop delivery, reliance on facilities within ground airports to withstand missile attacks, like the Sky Tower, is essential.

The so-called Sky Tower is the energy connection channel between spaceports and ground ports. Not a traditional architectural structure. Shuttles transporting personnel and shuttle transporting goods conduct accelerated ejection through energy channels, allowing swift ground to space transit.

Only by relying on the Sky Tower between ground airports and spaceports to transport troops into space, then further dispatch to other spaceports by the Space Fleet, and ultimately land again via the Sky Tower, can troop delivery be realized.

And First Airport’s shuttle direct carrying capacity is thirty times that of normal ports!

If First Airport were attacked, then moving troops stationed at other ports back to Central City via transport ships would only rely on small airport transfers, not only delaying time but also facing threat on space routes from other forces. Especially Longxing Association currently controls thirty percent of spaceports outside the atmosphere! Confronting Northern Alliance Army transferring within space, unimaginable acts could be anticipated.

Yet, even knowing the bandit team’s target and aware of what First Airport means to the Northern Alliance, Feiler couldn’t prevent the bandit team’s actions.
