Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 374: Revised: Volume 5, Chapter 12 - Breakthrough

Another morning, Little Pyrenees’ sun dyed the sky with golden dawn, while the jungle remained shrouded in milky white mist, faintly visible.

The tattered Magic Beast ran, its enormous mechanical feet splashing through a shallow creek, making clattering sounds with water splashing everywhere. At the end of the creek was a ten-meter high waterfall, above which hung another waterfall. Sparse water curtains draped over it, producing splashing sounds. The surrounding valley rocks were crawling with dark green moss.

The Magic Beast leapt gently, hopped up the first waterfall, then, without hesitation, climbed to the top of the second waterfall’s rock, but didn’t go over it. It instead turned around and jumped across a shallow pond, tumbling and scrambling into the left side of the jungle. The mecha’s colors changed into the indistinguishable jungle camouflage.

More than ten minutes later, a golden Apollo appeared at the edge of the small pond between the two waterfalls. It didn’t even look at the obvious climbing marks on the second waterfall, turning swiftly into the left side of the jungle.

After another ten minutes, the sound of an Energy Cannon roaring urgently and explosions came from the jungle, along with a furious curse.

The outbreak of the space war plunged human society into an apocalypse-like chaos.

In the war zones, every city trembled under the bombardment, countless civilians were displaced, their homes and lifelong savings turned into plumes of thick smoke in the war fire.

Armies of different factions attacked each other; infantry charged forward, self-propelled artillery provided dense fire coverage, and mechas formed the battle core, executing precise strikes with land-based and air-based fighters breaking through defenses. These killers entangled together, creating a tragic scene of steel, blood, and fierce fire.

From the high skies, countless explosion light clusters erupted across the vast planetary land, turning fields to scorched earth and cities to ruins. Humans, were destroying their civilization with such magnificence.

And all of this was just the beginning, causing despair for everyone longing for peace and tranquility. They didn’t know when misfortune would befall them or their loved ones, nor did they know when this horrendous nightmare would finally end!

Humans had accumulated too many weapons, armies, plots, and hatred for this war. Everyone knew from the start that once war broke out, it would undoubtedly be a long and arduous process, with no side easily claiming victory. The final victor would lose much, resulting in a pyrrhic victory.

But still, the war had to be fought, and no one could stop the already initiated conflict.

Especially on May 25, 2062, when the leading nations of the two military factions, the Binart Empire and the Feiyang Republic, simultaneously deployed troops to Karsdon Star River situated between the two countries, the war fully erupted in a terrifying confrontation between the two superpowers!

By May 30, 2062, human society had seen over sixty nations and more than twenty autonomous regions, with forty-eight countries and sixteen districts swept into the war.

Large and small nations formed different United Armies in various Star Domains, mobilizing national machines. At this moment, countless armies composed of thousands of soldiers were assembled, replenishing weapons and undergoing training, preparing to head to the frontlines.

On the frontlines, planets engulfed in war fire saw fierce battles for each city and deadly fights at every military stronghold. Armored divisions attacked the enemy’s defenses, slaughtering every non-friendly target in sight. Lives vanished in an instant, and unit designations were either abolished or merged.

Soldiers were deployed to the battlefield by armored personnel carriers or transport ships. They defended or attacked, overwhelmed by chaotic struggles. Eventually, some remained permanently on the battleground, while others were scattered across plains, jungles, or mountains, without anyone to rendezvous with, unable to find their units, the friendly forces, or a way back. They could only traverse in loneliness.

Some became prisoners, some were killed by the enemy, some died from various mishaps, while the fortunate ones returned to their bases, were reassigned to new units, and once again sent to the battlefield.

And on the interstellar route, countless fleets shuttled back and forth, transporting the Army and supplies with transport ships, newly constructed warships, reserve fleets assembled from the rear heading to the frontlines, and damaged ships retreating from the frontlines with scars, slowly navigating.

These fleets filled every route humans possessed. They escorted transport fleets, assisted the Army in occupying planets, deployed space carriers in space, releasing air-based fighters into the atmosphere to destroy every target that needed to be destroyed.

They also roamed the vast space like wolf packs, hiding in nebulas, behind planets, or asteroid belts. When prey appeared on the route, they’d suddenly pounce, devouring it in one bite, then quickly disappearing into the boundless space.
