Chapter 394: Volume 5 Chapter 21 Occupying the Base

”Boom!”

A fighter jet that had burst into the air became a ball of fire. The ball of fire burned and fell to the ground, and after a second, it scattered into a splendid meteor shower in the explosion.

Under the light of the exploding fighter jet, every place within the Tedanici Base was engaged in firefights.

The 91st Division’s First Battalion, after breaking through the gate and two fortresses, quickly advanced to the depths. They first seized the airport, although they were a bit late, all the fighter jets that had attempted to take off before were shot down by the precise and eerie missiles from the darkness.

After taking control of the remaining fighter jets, the Battalion split into one unit leading a pincer attack with the 3rd Group’s First Battalion attacking from the left side gate, charging directly at the heavily guarded mecha assembly workshop and energy storage tanks. The main force, including the First Battalion 2nd Company, continued to sweep into the depths of the base. Their target was the central building, where the core of the central control system and the base’s electronic systems were located.

At this moment, after the initial chaos, the base’s defenders finally organized a considerable defensive force. Thousands of soldiers, regardless of their previous duties, picked up weapons. Nearly two thousand of the guards’ mechas, familiar with the base terrain, occupied almost all advantageous positions, establishing blocking positions and resisting step by step. They turned every building, every fortress, every warehouse in the base into a battlefield.

As if a knife cutting into wood, the deeper it cut, the harder it became. The battle became stuck. Whether it was the left route’s 3rd Group’s First Battalion, the middle route’s First Battalion, or the right route’s 2nd Battalion, they seemed to make no further breakthrough.

The battle continued, both sides repeatedly contested every place like a tug-of-war. When the front line First Battalion suddenly reported that a company of [Vajra] mechas appeared in front of them, all the officers of the 91st Division turned pale.

Among the three major forces, Gordon’s intelligence system was the most terrible. Without SkyNet and sufficient power, Gordon could only guard the northern part of Tanville, playing with a balance of power. When the 91st Division decided to attack the Tedanici Base, they did not have much intel on the base.

Initially, when deciding to cross the mountains and assault the Tedanici Base at the border between Reinhardt and their forces, Kruze had anticipated that the Mythical Army might station a small portion of troops here. Yet when the company finally appeared before him, he still felt dizzy!

How long could the Electronic Camp suppress the situation? The electronic control gained by the sudden attack was not decisive. Given time, the base’s powerful electronic systems would definitely break through this suppression. At that time, not only would it be uncertain if they could capture and seize the base, but even a full retreat would be questionable.

Once the communication and command systems were controlled, the 91st Division would immediately become scattered. The enemy’s reinforcements, especially the dreadful Mythical Army, would give the defeated 91st Division little chance! The destruction of this elite force under Gordon would directly lead to the downfall of the Independent Army that Gordon led.

This was not unfounded fear; when a company of the finest Mythical Armor Company troops from the Gazalin appeared on the blocking positions, all this could indeed happen!

Previously, Reinhardt and Stephen had sent envoys several times, hoping to win over Gordon and Hailig. Stephen was out of the question; the conflict between Gordon and him was beyond resolution. No one would believe Stephen’s words, even if he set aside all prejudices. What about the Gazalin Nobles behind him? They would rather eat Gordon’s flesh, drink his blood, and sleep on his skin!

As for Reinhardt, he proposed an astonishing suggestion; he wanted to marry Gordon’s daughter Christina! This proposal seemed to completely express Reinhardt’s sincerity; however, only those who truly understood this Mythical Army Commander knew how deep his schemes were.

He could even betray James, let alone Gordon.

The coup in Gazalin, the disappearance of Prince George, how could it not be related to his manipulation behind the scenes? In the past twenty years, Reinhardt seemed so aloof that no sign of betrayal was visible; yet in reality, the Mythical Army’s influence extended to every corner of the Gazalin military. Secretly, they had even allied with the Desic Empire. What a mind this was!

However, Kruze knew that if the attack failed, the only option left for Gordon would likely be to agree to Reinhardt’s terms, using his daughter as a bargaining chip to secure a chance for survival.

”3rd Group, immediately support 1st Group. You must capture the central building before the enemy breaks through the electronic blockade!” Kruze quickly issued the order; he could not tolerate a girl whom he saw as his own sister bearing the consequences of his mistake.

The 3rd Group reserves stationed on the left side of the No. 3 resource road had become Kruze’s most critical move. He had already made up his mind that if it didn’t work, he would personally lead the two guard companies to charge up, even if he had to bite, he would take down the central building!

The Combat Department was filled with a tense atmosphere; everyone held their breath. The situation seemed to be evolving step by step according to Fatty’s judgment. Whether it was the left-wing’s 3rd Group’s First Battalion or the right route’s 2nd Battalion, they all encountered insufficient attack power at critical contested positions, with losses gradually increasing. And in the middle route, the exact spot where the Mythical Mecha Battalion appeared in front of the central building was the point Fatty had insisted they could not take!
