Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 373: Volume 5 Chapter 12 Breakthrough (Part 1)_3

For the past three days, Fatty had only snacked on a few bites of dried food and slept for just two hours, all thanks to the help of Little Pi! Without Little Pi’s alarms and keeping watch, without the SkyNet System’s foresight, without the Wave Riding Skill enabling him to move unobstructed through the jungle, he might have been long gone at the hands of Reinhardt.

One has to understand, although the Magic Beast excels in certain aspects, it doesn’t mean it can outrun the Ninth Generation Apollo!

Apollo is not only faster than Magic Beast, but also, Reinhardt’s hand speed is superior to Fatty’s. A higher hand speed means Reinhardt can use more comprehensive controls to run, making each step of the mecha more rational, utilizing the power of the engine and joints more fully, and thus running faster.

Therefore, to shake off Reinhardt, Fatty has had to rely on the Wave Riding Skill to traverse through the jungle. Only this miraculous footwork, which requires forty-two movements per second, can make up for the gap between him and Reinhardt.

However, now, Fatty doesn’t know how much farther he can run. His hands can barely lift anymore. Both his mind and body have reached their limits.

The Apollo behind him, still as relentless as the Sun God driving a war chariot, never tires.

Once again using the Wave Riding Skill, Fatty managed to ditch Apollo, and the worn-out Magic Beast continued to sprint wildly.

Little Pi looked worriedly at Tian Xingjian. Fatty’s face had an abnormal red hue, with veins throbbing visibly under his skin. The veins on his forehead and temples were bulging, giving him a fierce appearance. His hands, flying over the control console, trembled violently, as if they might stop at any moment and never rise again.

Forty-five movements per second—Fatty had been maintaining his own limit for three straight days. He couldn’t understand why, despite always priding himself on his swift hands and feeling he had more potential, he couldn’t break through this bottleneck.

Since reaching this hand speed in the gravity room at Gallipalan College over a year ago, it had felt like a huge lock, tightly binding him.

After a wild sprint, the Magic Beast suddenly lost its balance. The mecha slammed into a large tree while trying to dodge it. The immense impact broke the tree, and the mecha crashed to the ground, its protruding joints plowing through the piled-up leaves and dirt, sliding a long distance before finally stopping after knocking down several small trees.

Fatty stared blankly at his hands.

The veins on his exposed hands stood still on the control stick and keyboard. Aside from a sharp pain and a strange numbness, he felt no other sensations. It was as if he had lost contact with his body, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t move them.

Seeing the red dot on the radar closing in on him, Fatty was in utter despair.

Apollo was approaching the target unhurriedly. No one knew that inside this still dazzlingly bright mecha, the usually composed, elegant, and impeccably dressed Reinhardt had reached his limits.

These three days, he had also not rested for a moment. If not for his hand speed of fifty-four movements per second, which gave him a speed advantage over the worn-out Magic Beast, he would’ve given up this arduous pursuit long ago. As Fatty gritted his teeth to persist, Reinhardt was also gritting his teeth to hold on. He genuinely wanted to know how much longer this Magic Beast, which had dragged him to this extent, could keep running and holding on.

On the new tracking instrument, the target had stopped.

”I bet that Fatty is quite frustrated. No matter what tricks he plays, no matter how his mecha interferes with radar and blocks communications, he’s still caught by me time after time,” Reinhardt sneered coldly. Without the Binart Empire’s newly developed tracking instrument, capable of collecting vibrations within a ten-kilometer radius and analyzing their positions, he wouldn’t have been able to keep up with this elusive Fatty.

Apollo leapt onto a small hill and came to a halt. A hundred meters away, the worn-out Magic Beast lay quietly in the middle of the forest, with a fallen tree by its side, its dense canopy covering half its body.

”Boom!”

Apollo unhesitatingly raised its hand and fired an energy bullet. The olive-shaped bullet shot through the forest, striking the sparkling energy shield of the dilapidated Magic Beast, and exploded amidst intense energy fluctuations. The fallen treetop shattered, and the Magic Beast’s body swayed like a dead fish in the tidal wave but then came to a stop.

”It’s over!” Fatty stared blankly at Little Pi, his tearful eyes blurred, thinking of how he would soon never see this world again, and finally couldn’t hold back his wailing.

Little Pi shivered all over. After thinking for a long time, he finally spoke timidly, ”How about you open the hatch and talk to him? It’s better for one to die than for both of us to die.”

”Boom!” Another energy bullet hit the Magic Beast. Amidst the violent trembling of the mecha, looking at Little Pi’s hateful face, Fatty felt a surge of anger rising from his chest. With a burst of hot air rushing to his core, he suddenly slapped Little Pi to the ground and roared, ”Cowardly fool, I’m truly ashamed of you!”

Seeing Little Pi staring blankly at him, Fatty yelled, ”Am I wrong?”

”Idiot!” Little Pi suddenly jumped up, shouting frantically, ”You have the strength to slap me but no strength to run?!”

Fatty froze, looking at his suddenly agile hands, as if awakening from a dream. He quickly grabbed the control stick, his right hand pounding the command keyboard like a rainstorm. Under the roar of the engine, Logic pushed with both hands, and almost simultaneously with the arrival of the third energy bullet, shot forward fiercely.

”Boom!”

With the explosion, the dirt thrown into the air pelted down, the powerful shock wave swept the rolling and crawling dilapidated Magic Beast off the ground.

The Magic Beast flipped several times before darting into the jungle, its red-hot energy shield like a thin piece of paper that could be torn apart with just a gentle touch!

”Boom!” ”Boom!” ”Boom!” One energy bullet after another exploded rapidly in the jungle, but there was no further gain. Watching the Magic Beast disappear behind another hill, Reinhardt almost ground his teeth to dust!
