Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 384: Volume 5 Chapter 16 Change of Plan

Reinhardt’s reaction was ultimately half a beat too slow. By the time he leaped to the top of the waterfall, the shabby [Magic Beast] had already darted out a hundred meters. The agility of its bouncing figure showed not a hint of being an old Mecha!

Despite Reinhardt giving it his all, the distance between them only grew larger. By the time the multitude of [Vajra] finally rushed into the gorge and climbed the waterfall, the [Magic Beast] was long gone.

Watching from the radar image transmitted by the [Element] electronic mecha, the [Magic Beast] finally disappeared into the vast forest, evading its long-distance counter-detection. Reinhardt’s face turned ashen. He had to face the fact that on this planet, another Level 9 Mecha Warrior had emerged.

Furthermore, this Level 9 Warrior had grown under his pursuit! Faster, stronger, and even more cunning than himself! No one understood better than Reinhardt the great loss such a cunning Level 9 Warrior could cause to the Mythical Army! If that Fatty wished, he alone, with one mecha, could roam freely in Mezrich; as long as he didn’t fall into a trap, no one could catch him!

Standing dumbfounded for a while, Reinhardt found that the regional communication channel was completely silent, as if the hundreds of Mythical Soldiers held their breath in unison. He gave a bitter smile, knowing that this dilapidated [Magic Beast] that had broken through and escaped from his clutches had left a profound impression on the Mythical Soldiers!

”Call the transport ship, retreat,” Reinhardt ordered. There’s no longer any reason to stay here, and as a commander, he quickly weighed the pros and cons. Since the chase was no longer feasible, the most important thing now was to address the flaws of [Vajra] rather than waste more time playing hide-and-seek!

The [Magic Beast] sprinted wildly, eventually stopping. Fatty lowered Bonnie from the mechanical hand, hesitating for a long time, not daring to open the cabin to go out. When finally facing the victim alone, all he felt was a chilling sense of fear, hoping to delay as long as he could.

From the cockpit’s observation window, he could see Bonnie’s clothes were soaked from the waterfall, clinging to her body and accentuating her curves, sending an alluring sense of chaos that was hard to resist. Fatty sternly warned himself, strongly demanding he act like a gentleman, but his eyes were uncontrollably peeking through the window.

”Come out,” Bonnie glanced at Fatty, whose face was pressed against the armored glass, straightening the strands of hair messed up by the wind, she said lightly. Her jade-like beautiful face showed an indifferent emotion, revealing no sign of happiness or anger.

The cockpit cover of the mecha flipped open with a ”zzt,” and Fatty, head downcast, came out. Seeing Bonnie shivering slightly, he hurriedly stripped himself to please her, with a fawning smile, handing over his clothes!

”Put on your pants!” Bonnie exclaimed in exasperation, grabbing Fatty’s clothes to cover herself from his roaming gaze at her chest, while whispering with a blush as she turned her face away.

”Oh, oh,” Fatty quickly put on his pants as if suddenly enlightened, frantically explaining, ”Actually, it’s okay, I’m wearing underwear,” while shyly using his hand to cover his chest, his head lowered, kicking at the ground, appearing very innocent yet also asking for trouble.

The jungle was in a dead silence, the atmosphere somewhat awkward, yet also ambiguous, as the two stood facing each other, silent and speechless. After a long pause, Fatty finally mustered the courage to say, ”I know that for some things, an apology is useless, you can hit or scold me as you like, an eye for an eye is fine too.”

”Who wants an eye for an eye!” Bonnie’s face turned a deep red as she shot a fierce glare at this damn Fatty, thinking only this scoundrel of a Fatty in the world would come up with that, what wishful thinking! She gave him a push and said with her head lowered, ”Let’s go.”

”Go?” Fatty was confused, ”Where to?”

Bonnie blushed and retorted, ”How should I know where to go!”

Fatty pondered Bonnie’s words, his heart panic-stricken with a mix of fear and joy, a bit disoriented as to why Bonnie had so easily forgiven him, her words even carried an indefinable gentleness.

He didn’t understand that after Bonnie’s confrontation with Reinhardt and the subsequent escape, the infatuation she’d held for twenty years since childhood suddenly seemed like a dream she had awakened from. Originally, a heart like ashes felt unburdened, as if a load was lifted.

Thinking of the past, and reflecting on Fatty’s actions along the way, Bonnie felt an epiphany; she understood then that a person’s worth had nothing to do with their appearance or status.

Although Reinhardt possessed unparalleled aristocratic refinement, charm, talent, and appearance, his dark heart made Bonnie now shudder in retrospect. Yet, this ordinary-looking Fatty, who seemed somewhat sleazy and cowardly, could at crucial moments single-handedly hold back an entire group of enemies to allow his comrades to escape, and also charge into the heart of danger to rescue her.

When Bonnie saw the ragged [Magic Beast] appear amid the waterfall, what she felt was an indescribable warmth and a joy that made her blush, even feeling somewhat frivolous. Her heartstrings were inexplicably moved at that moment, trembling and tingling all over her body.

Women are always easily swayed by the hero complex of their dreams, and what woman wouldn’t be moved by a man risking his life to save her? Besides, this man was truly excellent and had shared intimacy with her, in body and in essence.
