Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 357: 5 Volumes, 6 Chapters, Fearless Duel

Although he had long known about Reinhardt’s arrival from the SkyNet System, Fatty still couldn’t help but shiver when he saw the mechas scattered like beans under the distant sunset.

He understood that in this chess game of Mezrich, the truly formidable opponent was the Gazalin military genius, who seemed as untouchable as a god.

Fatty was already aware of what kind of combat effectiveness the Mythical Army might exhibit under this person’s direct leadership; it was no secret from his time with the Mythical Army.

In the hall on the second floor north of the Mythical Army’s base, there is a wall of honor listing a total of one hundred and fifty-nine battles big and small from 2049 to 2062, including forty-nine military operations led personally by Reinhardt.

The outcome of these forty-nine battles can be summarized in two words: absolute victory!

And in these forty-nine flawless victories, in eighteen battles, Reinhardt was tasked with leading his team to airdrop into the densest enemy areas at the most critical moments to complete the mission with fewer numbers!

”Damn it,” Fatty shuddered, exasperated by his own cowardice. Gritting his teeth, he raised his middle finger to the sky with a defiant look, muttering, ”If you have the guts, face me openly!” Then, to the admiration of the little kid, he shamelessly waved and said, ”If you want to fight me, catch me first. Retreat!”

*********

The First and Second Battalions of the Mythical Second Group had completely disbanded. Upon receiving orders, the First and Second Groups immediately ceased their cleanup of the remaining enemies, using the firepower of heavy mechas to secure their position, leisurely converging towards the small hill where Tian Xingjian was located.

”Done fighting and now thinking of fleeing?” Osullivan, with a somewhat dazed expression, glanced at the reinforcements landing in the distance and then at the retreating bandit army, suddenly sneering viciously. With a gentle press on the control panel, his 2054 model [Walker] Mecha abruptly stood up, becoming intimidatingly fierce as its limbs extended and its energy cannon activated.

Osullivan activated the hydraulic fixation, securing himself firmly to the seat, and then methodically adjusted the control lever and mecha keyboard to a very comfortable angle. Pointing at Bonnie, he told a nearby [Vajra], ”You, stay and watch her!”

After speaking, he turned around, took a deep breath, and pushed the control stick, striding the mecha towards the top of the hill.

The mecha jostled along, with the cockpit softly bobbing up and down on the shock-absorption system, like a little boat on the surface of water.

As the slope in front suddenly declined, the view beyond the transparent cockpit cover unexpectedly broadened.

In the distance, the Leray people were retreating in an orderly fashion, sliding westward to the horizon of the hills like a receding tide. Their rear-guard mechas unleashed fierce firepower in a wild-goose formation. Amidst the chaotic cannon fire, pervasive smoke, and the soil churned by massive explosions, the scattered Mythical Mechas were scrambling in panic and distress.

And the Third and Fourth Battalions, which had been trying to break through the Leray people’s blockade, had already lost nearly a third of their mechas. They crawled along the hill covered with [Vajra] wreckage, repeatedly forced back by the Leray men’s fierce artillery fire.

This painful defeat, this heavy blow, had left all the warriors soulless. Once the mythical facade had been stripped away, they realized the enemy was even more ferocious than themselves! They couldn’t understand how, once their fatal flaws were discovered by the enemy, they could possibly continue the fight!

The [Walker] strode down the hill, ignoring the artillery fire ahead, continually moving forward, onto the battlefield, to the side of its troop.

Sweeping a glance at the nearby [Vajra] mechas in bewilderment, Osullivan ultimately locked his gaze on the distant damaged [Magic Beast], his voice cold as ice:

”All units, charge!”

One by one, the [Vajra] gathered behind the [Walker]. They began running, still a bit stiff in motion, still a bit hesitant, following in a chaotic yet gradually organized assault formation.

Finally, they advanced at high speed amidst the overwhelming cannon fire.

Witnessing this scene, the entire First Group of the Desic 191st Division, who had been holding back, was shaken, each Desic warrior gasping in shock.

With a casualty rate as high as seventy percent, such numbers would cause an inevitable collapse in most armies!

Yet this Gazalin Armored Group did not.

They looked disheveled, extremely, extremely disheveled. They had just suffered a painful defeat, surrounded by the burning remnants of [Vajra] mechas, and the enemy continued firing at them! Many of them hadn’t even regained their senses.

But, they had begun an assault!

In just a few hundred meters, they had gathered together, meticulously launching a formal assault entirely aligned with the standard army tactical requirements for mecha assault!

Chaotic, yet orderly.

After a moment of silence, Dafu sternly commanded, ”All units, prepare for attack!”

Watching the Mythical Army launch their assault, Fatty fell into silence, suddenly recalling the self-sacrifice of those [Demon Tiger] warriors during the attempt to rescue the prisoners in Miloke.

The Mythical Army was indeed a terrifying force; every member of this army was a truly determined and fearless warrior.
