Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 392: Volume 5 Chapter 20 Capturing the Fortress

This news made the atmosphere in the command headquarters become heavy immediately. Kruze was somewhat surprised; he never expected that Fatty’s unit would be so ineffective in combat. An entire company was wiped out just like that. For a moment, no one knew what to say. Comforting the guy now would seem a bit like gloating.

In fact, this feeling was somewhat present among the officers of the 91th Division. After all, they had no particular camaraderie with the Leray people, and besides, half of these Leray people’s troops were stationed right behind them, with both sides being warily defensive towards each other.

”Peace for too long... they still can’t really fight a war. Our 91th Division couldn’t capture that place after all this time; what use would one of their companies be?” a Major Staff quietly said to his companion next to him.

”Shh, keep your voice down.” His companion quickly hushed him and said in a lowered voice: ”Don’t add fuel to the fire with gloating. Didn’t you notice Fatty standing there, completely dumbfounded?”

The Major heard his companion’s words and glanced sneakily at Fatty. He saw Fatty standing there with a stiff smile, looking utterly bewildered.

”Shells don’t have eyes.” The Major nudged his companion lightly with his elbow and said, ”You have to admit, it’s quite strange. How come we charged together, but while our people are fine, theirs died to the last man? Do you think it’s because Fatty cuckolded Reinhardt? Otherwise, why would they target only his men?”

The Major’s companion, intrigued by the gossip, lowered his voice and said, ”Probably. I’ve heard quite a lot of rumors, and they all seem to involve this Fatty.”

The Major, completely oblivious to the ongoing battle, gleefully asked, ”What kind of rumors? Spill it.”

His companion glanced at Fatty and said, ”Don’t be fooled by his foolish look; he’s devious as hell. You know which woman Prince Bruce chased after back then?”

The Major shook his head in astonishment and asked, ”Who? And what does it have to do with Fatty?”

”Heh,” his companion said smugly, ”This is top secret, no wonder you don’t know. Bruce died at Fatty’s hands. It started because Fatty raped the woman Bruce was pursuing. In a fit of rage, Bruce threw him into Abnosk Prison. Unexpectedly, during the later coup, Fatty killed Bruce in return!”

”Wow!” The Major gasped. ”Fatty is that vile? He steals another man’s woman and kills him too! Is there no justice in this world?”

”There’s worse,” his companion sneered. ”Not just Bruce’s woman, even Princess Susan couldn’t escape. Fatty, in a fit of rage, slept with them all!”

”Beast!” The Major cursed in indignation. ”That scum deserves to be castrated!”

”Castrated?” His companion wickedly grinned. ”If you were to castrate him, some people wouldn’t be happy. Look at Bonnie, the former flower of the Empire. She wouldn’t give anyone the time of day, but when he took her, look at how submissive she became. Fatty’s methods are damned impressive. I heard he’s into some forbidden chamber training. No matter how fierce a woman is, in his hands, they become as docile as lambs!”

The Major stared wide-eyed, nodding repeatedly, and clicked his tongue in wonder. His companion, with a voice full of eerie glee, continued, ”And there’s more. I heard that General Gordon’s daughter Christina was originally pursued by George? I don’t know... sigh, such a human tragedy. His Majesty James has a bastard and two princes, all cuckolded by this Fatty.”

The Major sighed, ”The Leray Federation touted this Fatty as a Federation Hero, painting him in layers of glory. Who would have thought he’d be such a thing.”

”Propaganda!” his companion said, ”What propaganda can be believed? Besides, Fatty’s ability to cuckold others is quite a skill, isn’t it?”

The Major lamented, ”Why does the good cabbage always get taken by the pigs! No wonder his men all perished; it’s definitely divine retribution!”

As the two were engrossed in their animated conversation, the communication channel suddenly crackled with the main attack company commander’s delighted voice, ”Report to the Division Commander, we’ve broken through the blockade! The two fortresses have been completely destroyed, and the attack route is open!”

The command headquarters erupted in excitement as everyone subconsciously cheered softly, pumping their fists. These two fortresses were initially predicted by Fatty as one of the six high-casualty positions in his combat plan. Now, the 91th Division had proven him wrong, giving a firm lesson to this overconfident Fatty.

Some officers looked at Fatty with eyes full of derision, chuckling to themselves, ”This Fatty talked big but was ultimately ineffective. When it came to actual combat, they were wiped out entirely. In the end, it was us who took them down.”

Kruze shot a complex glance at Fatty and then ordered the company commander, ”Increase the pace of the attack, take it all in one go!”

”Yes!” The company commander responded energetically, ”With the cooperation of our allies, I will complete the mission!”

While everyone was puzzled by the commander’s words, they heard him muttering to himself over the communication channel, ”This is a real eye-opener. Who knew there was this kind of warfare... Damn it, why fiddle around, quickly follow their lead, study how they fight. Use your brain. Damn you, pretending to be dead in front of me...”
