Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 395: Revised: Volume 5 Chapter 21 Occupation of the Base_2

Although feeling suffocated, some of the staff couldn’t help but secretly glance at Fatty’s expression while busy. The battle where the Leray Mecha Battalion destroyed two strong fortresses left a deep impression on them. As a result, some inexplicably believed that this seemingly ordinary Fatty must have a way to solve the problems. Otherwise, why would he be so calm, so confident, and why would he smile so shamelessly?

Fatty didn’t know his smile was deemed shameless. He kept displaying what he thought was a mysterious smile. However, like a beggar in regal robes, no matter how one looked, it didn’t fit. This Federation Major General, direct disciple of Russell, and great hero of the Federation, at heart, was just a cowardly mechanic soldier.

Standing in the Combat Department, posing as if strategizing a decisive battle from miles away, was one of Fatty’s dreams since he was a child. It was just that his demeanor was significantly lacking.

As the staff silently speculated, numerous blue signal markers suddenly appeared on the electronic map of the Combat Department’s central information platform.

These markers, representing Fatty’s subordinates, instantly filled the void left by the 3rd Group and entered the open passage on the left flank, quickly dispersing into units. Part of them moved towards the center, while some advanced rapidly. Their actions were so swift that, on radar, they appeared like dozens of centipedes freed from their hiding stones, scattering for safety, piercing through in the blink of an eye.

Watching the radar closely, some quick-witted staff felt relieved. They weren’t fools; they fully understood that the movement directions of these allied mechas on the radar were heading toward the most critical points of the current chaotic situation. However, this realization came in hindsight, as everyone only recognized their attack directions after the blue markers had moved. Their attacks and penetrations were precisely what the defenders feared the most!

This time, the bandit army’s clear actions in the chaotic battle situation struck the Combat Department with an even bigger shock than the last fight. The staff exchanged glances, each feeling frustrated in their disbelief. Why couldn’t they seize such crucial points accurately in the chaotic battle? This frustration was reminiscent of their profound experiences in the Military Academy when analyzing famous battles, realizing the enormous gap between themselves and great generals when the professor revealed the battle’s final answer.

This time, that frustrating feeling reappeared, right before them. A chess game they were playing, tangled complexly, was instantly turned into a famous game by someone else! For a military staff member, what could be a bigger blow?

The bandit army’s involvement quickly turned the tide. The offensive started to intensify, and the repeatedly contested positions were steadily held. The troops began to advance and break through. The previously stalemated battle quickly became clear, everything seemingly solvable. Now, the only problem seemed to be the defensive line in front of the central building!

Twenty minutes later, that defensive line also seemed less daunting. The bandit army, having made a rapid push from the left, annihilated the guards in the mecha assembly area, bypassed the energy tank area, and after establishing a temporary defense line, sharply turned, maneuvering through the parts warehouse towards the central building!

This route of action was completely unexpected by the staff of the 91th Division! The warehouse was oriented north-south; whether passing through or along the road, it led to the energy storage area. Their fixed combat plan aimed to capture the energy storage area independently, so they only deployed a battalion there. But the blue markers on the radar easily solved this problem by demolishing over thirty warehouses and partition walls in their path!

With the left flank maneuver completed, the only remaining problem was who would deal with the [Vajra] Battalion!

The continuous battlefield records left the staff of the 91th Division’s Combat Department dazzled and enthralled! In the local skirmishes, those ghostly Leray Mechas used numerous common battlefield tactics. However, these seemingly ordinary tactics brought unparalleled shock. Whether it was an ambush, flanking, local siege, or tearing through defense lines, their offensives were so sharp that their tactical usage could be deemed textbook classics!

The final battlefield record sent in, showing the annihilation of the [Vajra] Mecha Battalion, left everyone, including Kruze, utterly speechless!

It was a frontal assault! The Leray Mechas encircling the central building didn’t seem to intend to assist. They deliberately let two hundred never-before-seen Leray Mechas launch a frontal assault. But was it a mecha battle? No, it was a massacre!

Two hundred [Hunters] launched an assault from a kilometer away, piercing through the 91th Division’s temporary line towards the [Vajra] Mecha Battalion.

The battlefield recorder’s lens trembled, the footage shaky, just like the hearts of all the staff watching it, stirred passionately.

In the night, amidst the continuous explosions, in the flashing energy cannon lights from the enemy positions, mechas leaping out of the positions like lightning bolts striking the enemy. Their terrifying speed made it hard for anyone to believe their eyes. These mechas evoked only one word in everyone’s mind: fierce!

Indeed, like lions pouncing on a flock of sheep, charging through the sky of artillery fire and dust. Even from a distance, close-up shots clearly showcased these mechas’ potency. These assassin-type Special Mechas didn’t conceal their presence; they seemed to transform from dark assassins into knights charging on horseback, pouncing into the [Vajra] Battalion’s temporary trenches in an instant!

Then, a massacre ensued! No [Vajra] unit could slightly withstand their attack.

In the densely continuous explosions, the Leray people completed the annihilation in just five minutes. The combat results were 147 to 0!

The entire [Vajra] Battalion was annihilated with no survivors, while the two hundred Leray Mechas suffered no injuries!

The battle ended. Within the base, only sporadic sounds of skirmishes from mopping up the remnants could be heard. The Combat Department was in dead silence, everyone in complex shock unable to speak.

Only Kruze smiled, patting Fatty on the shoulder and extending his hand to Fatty, saying, ”I know, this is actually your prey, so you take what’s here first!”

Fatty was very satisfied. It wasn’t a wasted effort; Kruze indeed showed good sense. He modestly yet bluntly said, ”Then I will reluctantly do so.”
