Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 548: Volume 6 Chapter 33 Homecoming_2

”Sister, give me a hug.”

The little brat’s appearance and expression were too deceiving. Curly hair, a big head, chubby limbs like lotus roots, a pair of unrealistically beautiful big eyes, and a pinkish face - he was as cute as could be, simply irresistible to women.

Before Fatty could stop him, the little brat had already successfully thrown himself into Ann Lei’s arms, his face blushing as he nuzzled against her chest.

Unfortunately, this little pervert didn’t get his way. Ann Lei unexpectedly lifted him away from her chest, staring at him with a half-smile and said, ”You’re the little kid, right?” While speaking, her clear eyes inadvertently glanced at Fatty.

Fatty and the little kid were thunderstruck. The big and the small exchanged glances, not understanding how Ann Lei knew.

The little kid was certainly frustrated to be easily seen through, while Fatty was shocked that Ann Lei had said Pipi’s name so casually.

Not to mention how Ann Lei saw through the shape-shifting little kid, but she shouldn’t have known that name. The only ones who knew it, aside from the limited few like Boswell, were Bonnie and Milan back at Gallipalan.

Fatty suddenly felt a bit guilty.

”Beauty.” The little kid was straightforward; once seen through, he ceased his shameless pestering. He whistled in a cheeky manner that didn’t match his cute appearance and curiously asked, ”How did you see through me?”

Ann Lei’s eyes twinkled as she looked at Fatty and said, ”Someone naturally told me.”

Fatty looked around nervously. At this moment, he wasn’t foolish enough to ask who had told Ann Lei. Some things were better left unclear.

Letting the little kid send a message to Boswell, Fatty, Ann Lei, and the little kid boarded a luxurious spaceship arranged by the Intelligence Bureau.

Along the way, Fatty several times hinted for the little kid to pry information from Ann Lei, but Ann Lei just smiled quietly and leaned obediently against him, without saying a word.

Fatty did not dare to continue probing. Despite Ann Lei’s gentle demeanor, she had a certain toughness. A senior liaison officer who had undergone rigorous torture training in the Intelligence Bureau was naturally not someone Fatty could easily get information from.

After more than ten hours of flight, this seemingly luxurious spaceship, equipped with ultra-high speed and defense firepower not inferior to a destroyer, slowly landed at the military airport in the suburbs of Gallipalan, the capital of Miloke Star.

As the flying car passed the gate of Gallipalan College, turned a semicircular road, and entered the residential area, Fatty saw Mother Ann constantly looking in this direction by a small building.

After more than a year, Mother Ann seemed to have aged a lot.

Fatty felt a pang of pain. This old person, who was kinder to him than to Ann Lei, was his most cherished family member in this world.

He could imagine how, in this protracted war, a lonely old woman worried day and night about her children, how she tossed and turned sleeplessly night after night, hoping that one day the doorbell would ring, and her child would return safely.

She sat alone in the living room, not daring to watch TV, not daring to hear the phone ring. Every day, she missed her children. When she was hungry, she would just prepare a simple meal in the kitchen, waiting for the night to fall.

At the end of the day, not receiving any bad news was the greatest happiness for an old person.

Seeing Mother Ann, like a little child, with undisguised joy, tiptoeing and peeking, Fatty’s eyes turned red.

As soon as the car stopped, Fatty flung the door open and rushed out.

”Little Jian, Little Jian!” Mother Ann, who had been staring at the flying car, immediately recognized Tian Xingjian, excitedly waving her hand. As she waved, tears started falling.

Years ago, Fatty did not dare to face Mr. Ann and Mother Ann after causing trouble. When Mother Ann found him, she had this same appearance. Fatty rushed up and hugged the old woman tightly, pressing his face against hers and crying like a child.

Mother Ann loved her son; she always regretted not having a boy for Mr. Ann, so she treated Fatty better than her own daughter. When Fatty and Ann Lei had disputes as children, Mother Ann always sided with Fatty. Her love for Fatty was stubborn, to the point where even Ann Lei was jealous.

During the days when Fatty ran away due to cowardice and felt too ashamed to go to the Ann Family, Mother Ann didn’t know how many times she scolded Mr. Ann, who always tried to toughen Fatty up. During the years when Fatty finally left the capital for university, Mother Ann would go and clean his room every two days.

Mother Ann’s love for Fatty was deeply ingrained. She was a traditional woman from the Chuckna Clan, gentle and kind, treating her husband as her sky. Yet, she pampered Fatty and dared to lose her temper with anyone for his sake.

The mother and son cried in each other’s arms for a long while until a tearful Ann Lei managed to separate them. Mother Ann grabbed Fatty’s hand and led him into the house, chattering while keeping a gaze on him, constantly saying how skinny he had become.

Mother Ann’s words made Fatty feel awkward, and even Ann Lei couldn’t help but smile through her tears.

Fatty had always been that way. The long-term combat and training had just made him more robust than during his student days. However, his belly and cheeks hadn’t changed much. Even if they went down, they would return to the same shape after two days of rest and some food.

That a plump and greasy Fatty would be called ”skinny as a rake” showed how stubborn old people could be, incomprehensible to ordinary folks.
