Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 511: Volume 6 Chapter 15 Selecting the Model

Boswell had a wry smile on his face, completely at a loss for how to answer that little brat’s question.

You’re an artificial intelligence, what do you need that kind of thing for? Even if we gave you a magical staff, you wouldn’t have any use for it!

The elevator door opened, and several female researchers in white coats were waiting. As soon as they saw Boswell, they greeted him. They also took a few curious glances at the Fatty following Boswell.

”Hey!” The face on the recruitment poster was very familiar. A couple of quick-witted girls almost exclaimed in surprise. But just as they were about to, they heard a voice: ”Old man, functionality is key, and the size matters! Do they come in models? I want a big one!”

”...”

They didn’t know what that spherical robot Boswell was holding was, but the statement’s impact was clear. The female researchers blushed, lowered their heads, and quickly squeezed into the elevator.

Boswell felt utterly humiliated, his old face slightly red. The Fatty didn’t mind, looking around without a care. After all, Boswell was the one holding the little kid, not him.

The Capital First Military Academy is the largest, oldest, and most prestigious military school in the Leray Federation. Founded during the Nademick Dynasty five hundred years ago, it became a key force in the Leray Independence War three hundred years ago, under Marshal Stanley, against the dynasty’s oppressive rule.

In the past three hundred years, the academy has produced two marshals, forty-eight admirals, and countless vice admirals and major generals. Therefore, the academy is called the cradle of the Leray Federation Army.

Looking at the spacious and bright corridor, the neat and orderly rooms, and various advanced research instruments and teaching equipment in the comprehensive building, Fatty suddenly let out a long sigh.

Back in the day, when he learned that Ann Lei had applied for the military academy, he secretly came to this capital’s only military academy to sign up, but was turned away. If not for the lower enlistment barriers, Fatty knew he would never have been able to become a soldier.

He followed Boswell into the laboratory.

After passing through two security doors and a clean zone, a hall similar to the Gallipalan Laboratory appeared before Fatty. In various sections, an Energy Cannon and several Mechas of unknown models were being modified or tested by researchers. In front of the huge central computer, dozens of researchers were busily working.

A researcher who looked like an intern was holding some data, flipping through it while walking quickly past Fatty. When he raised his head unintentionally, the intern suddenly widened his eyes in disbelief at Fatty.

Fatty was puzzled and returned the same incredulous look. The two faced each other, eyes wide open.

Boswell knew things were about to go south, so he pulled Fatty into his private research room. Just as the automatic door was about to close, a joyous exclamation came from outside.

”Tian Xingjian! Oh my god, it’s Federation Hero Tian Xingjian! Tian Xingjian is here!”

The intern ran and jumped around the lab, announcing his shocking discovery. The entire lab turned into chaos. Shouts, questions, screams, and the intern’s cries made the once quiet lab turn into a marketplace.

Fatty didn’t need Boswell to say anything, he knew he was done for.

During his time away from the Federation, his face had been plastered on posters, not because of his thick skin but as a good deed orchestrated by the Federation Army Department and the President.

They pushed him into the spotlight and hung a sign around his neck that read ”Federation Hero” on the front.

It sounded glorious, but Fatty knew there were words on the back too, one more than the front, ”Gullible Cannon Fodder!”

Boswell ignored Fatty’s resentful gaze, quickly pulled up a list of robot models from the central computer, and clicked on one, saying to the little kid, ”Lord Fart, how about this one?”

On the virtual screen appeared a tall, handsome man. With golden hair, blue eyes, chiseled features, and an inverted triangle body and slender limbs, he was nearly perfect by male standards.

Boswell said, ”This is the Sun God No. 18 guardian robot developed by the Sun God Robot Company of the Jiepeng Empire in 2061. It is currently the luxury model among Five-Star Robots. Its frame is made of superhard alloy, its muscles and skin are made of the best materials in the universe, with a visual and tactile feel indistinguishable from a real person. Most importantly, the guardian robot’s agility and strength are several times higher than that of ordinary service robots.”

The little kid stared at the Sun God No. 18, puzzled: ”Why doesn’t it have a little chicken?”

Boswell replied awkwardly, ”These robots can only execute very strict programs and lack the ability to make judgments beyond their programming. That thing is really unnecessary. Besides, human society has very strict regulations on robots, prohibiting the installation of things that violate ethical norms. However, some companies that produce adult toys do develop such things.”

The little kid caught on quickly, understanding: ”Mobile, talking, realistic dolls?”

Boswell nodded, ”Yes, exactly those things.”

”Obscene!” The little kid said indignantly.

”Morally corrupt!” Fatty added righteously.

”So, does our lab have any samples of high-end realistic dolls?” The little kid innocently asked, ”Maybe we could get some inspiration.”

Beside him, Fatty gave the little kid an approving look.

”Why would our lab have such things,” Boswell said seriously. Seeing the little kid’s displeasure, Boswell thought for a moment and then added, ”But I do have a couple of collector’s editions at home.”

”......”

”How about this one?” Boswell changed the topic: ”If you make a decision, we’ll use the best materials to make it for you. I assure you it will be more advanced than any classic or collector’s edition. Whether it’s technology or materials, we have it all in our lab.”

The little kid glanced at Fatty, whose face looked unkind. With its astute mind, it knew the consequences of turning into a handsome guy following Fatty around, and decisively said: ”This image is too ugly, looks stupid. Do you have anything more handsome and mighty like our Master Fatty?”

Fatty was very pleased, lovingly patting Pipi’s head. Pointing at a robot on the virtual screen, he said: ”I think this one is pretty good.”

The little kid nearly fainted when it saw the baby-like robot Fatty was pointing at. It immediately shook its head vigorously.

Fatty angrily said: ”Why not? This one is so cute. Look closely, this one even has a little willy. Old man, explain it!”

Boswell introduced: ”This model is a baby robot developed by the Feiyang Republic, specifically designed for mothers to learn childcare and breastfeeding. Its skin is particularly tender and smooth, and its appearance is designed according to the baby image most liked by women, so it is very popular among women. After it was launched, not only pregnant women bought it, but some girls also liked to buy it as a toy.”

”However...” Boswell carefully looked at the devastated little kid and said: ”That little willy is just for decoration, it doesn’t serve much purpose. Of course, we can make modifications.”

”Do girls also buy it?” Fatty asked in confusion: ”They can’t breastfeed, so why do they buy it?”

The little kid, initially dejected, suddenly brightened up at Fatty’s question, turning to listen to what Boswell said: ”It’s a girl’s nature to like cute things. The Sun God No. 18 is a luxury item developed only after the war broke out, unseen by the Federation. However, this baby-type robot is not uncommon in wealthy Federation households. It’s already developed to the third generation. Girls love to hold them as electronic pets.”

”Hold them?” The little kid’s eyes sparkled even more.

”Cute?” Fatty waved his hand: ”This virtue doesn’t match this little rascal; change to another one.”

”No, don’t!” the little kid suddenly shouted: ”Just this one, I like this one! It’s so cute. It fits my name perfectly.”

”The willy is very small though,” Fatty said.

”It’s okay, I don’t need to use it anyway,” the little kid said: ”It’s just for decoration.”

”So, it’s decided then?” Boswell asked.

”Decided!” the little kid said firmly.

The three of them cast their eyes in different directions, all understanding without saying a word.

”But this one seems too small, just a few months old, can’t walk or run. How about we change it to around two years old, just learning to walk?” Boswell suggested.

”It has to be cute. It has to make women overflow with maternal love at first sight,” the little kid said: ”A bit older is fine. A two-year-old can interact better with people. But the functions must be complete, if we’re making it, it has to be the best.”

”Let’s make it like a combat robot!” Boswell got excited: ”Nowadays, combat robots can only perform limited attack actions based on pre-set programs during combat, or be controlled remotely. Imagine, a combat robot controlled by artificial intelligence!”

At this point, the old man was already flushed with excitement.

”We can do that!” the little kid suddenly said: ”But won’t it be too heavy to hold?”

”We’ll use the most advanced materials!” Boswell said: ”Biological Dual State Metal for the skeleton, super-light fiber wrapping, plus extendable super-light alloy weapons, the weight will definitely not exceed that of a child the same size.”

”Disguise is still the key,” Fatty said: ”Basically, it will seldom have a chance to take action, but at critical moments, it needs to be deceptive. Liquefiable adaptive metal can also be used. For long-range weapons, a concealed energy gun hidden within its body will suffice. Pay more attention to its hands and mouth; kids biting can be quite deceptive.”

”Yes!” Pipi clapped its hands happily: ”The mouth, normally closed, should open wide at critical moments, like a shark, able to bite off ten pounds of meat in one go!”

”Hmm.” Boswell pulled up the design diagram of the baby robot on the central computer, making modifications and notes alongside, saying: ”Enhance the power in its hands to turn them into claws. With our technology, superhard alloy steel plates can be scratched with just a touch.”

”Defense is also very critical,” Fatty said, getting even more enthusiastic: ”Biological Dual State Metal is six times the strength of superhard alloy, that’s not a concern. But we need to make sure the internal micro energy engine, computer program core, and other electronic sensory systems are fireproof, waterproof, corrosion-resistant, and best of all, bulletproof and explosion-proof.”

”And the electronic system,” the little kid said, remembering its specialty: ”It should have the ability for certain levels of communication interference and electronic shielding. It needs a stable wireless network connection and the most powerful computing capabilities.”

”No problem,” Boswell said: ”We’ll use the cutting-edge items from our lab. If we don’t have it, I’ll get it from the academy. Technically, we’ll get the whole academy involved in tackling the problem. If it’s still not advanced enough, we’ll figure it out when we get to Chuckna.”

”You’re really great, old man,” Pipi said: ”Here’s a little gift for you.” With that, it inserted its mechanical hand into the central computer’s data port. A few minutes later, after the data transfer completion beep, Pipi opened the virtual screen.

”Is that a mecha ...” Boswell suddenly jumped up, not believing his eyes: ”Divine!”
