Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 539: Volume 6 Chapter 28 The Legend of Leray (Part 1)_2

An elderly man with white hair stood by the roadside, leaning on a cane, shouting to the boiling crowd, ”Long live Leray!” The crowd responded to him even louder. Everyone couldn’t suppress the boiling blood in their hearts. It seemed that if they didn’t shout a few times like this, they wouldn’t feel satisfied.

The program team randomly interviewed the still excited and incoherent students and soldiers gathered at the Capital First Military Academy.

”I’m so happy, so excited.” A brown-haired boy shouted at the camera, he had to yell to ensure he wasn’t drowned out by the roaring shouts beside him, ”I didn’t expect to see our Federation Hero... I’m so lucky. I love this country. In the future, I will defend her with my life, just like our hero.”

A mother holding a child said, ”When I saw him jump off the cliff that time, I hated those Desic people.” She wiped her eyes and suddenly burst into laughter, ”Now, seeing him come back, I’m so happy. Welcome him home. He should take a good rest, shave, and get a haircut.”

”He is a model for Leray soldiers!” A soldier trembled his lips, spoke a sentence, then was silent for a long time. Just as tears were about to burst out, he gave the camera a standard military salute, ”Please allow me to salute you here. On behalf of my parents who died in the war, thank you for everything you have done for us.”

At this moment, the threat from Gazalin and Desic to the west of Leray had been lifted. After three years of war, there was finally a chance to take a breath. Various emotions of sadness, joy, and excitement intertwined, and people seemed to suddenly awaken from their painful and numb lives, taking time to savor, digest, and release all that the war brought.

The special program ”Hero” triggered a frenzy of welcoming heroes home.

Every viewer who watched the program thought it was an excellent program. However, the program team didn’t seem satisfied. They were determined to push the enthusiasm to the end.

After shocking the audience with a dazzling simulation of a network Mecha fighting live broadcast, they had a young man who didn’t belong to the Leray Federation sit in the interview seat of the live broadcast car.

”My name is Cosmo, from the Free Port Alliance of Mars Planet.” Cosmo calmly introduced himself under the guidance of the host, Helen.

”I heard that you are a Level 1 Mecha Knight.” Helen asked.

”Yes.” Cosmo nodded, ”Three years ago, I won the challenge to become a Level 1 Mecha Knight.”

Level 1 Mecha Knight! This dazzling title immediately caused a stir among the audience in front of the TV. In this world full of Mechas, everyone knew how powerful a Level 1 Mecha Knight was. In peacetime, becoming a Mecha Knight was the dream of all young people.

”Mars is the name of the War God in Roman mythology. Mars Planet is also one of the five holy places for Mecha Fighting.” Helen smiled, ”As far as I know, for the Leray Federation, a Level 1 Mecha Fighter from Free Port is almost like a War God in our eyes.”

”You flatter me too much.” The Cosmo on TV twisted uncomfortably in his chair and said sincerely, ”It’s not that I belittle myself, nor am I deliberately flattering. In fact, in front of your country’s Mr. Tian Xingjian, I don’t even have the qualification to make a move!”

The audience in front of the TV was stunned and then burst into a commotion.

Leray had never had a Mecha Fighter above Level 9. Those who became Mecha Knights through popular examinations could never be compared with Free Port’s Mecha Knights of the same level.

Tian Xingjian is a Federation Hero, but his Mecha skills were clearly at a disadvantage when facing Aistrazzi. He became a Federation Hero because of his miraculous victories and bravery.

It was definitely not because of his Mecha skills!

Everyone dumbly watched this legendary Free Port Mecha Master calmly tell a story that belongs to the Leray Federation.

Is what he said true? If not, why would he damage his own reputation like this?

No one understood Cosmo’s thoughts.

In fact, even Helen didn’t quite understand. Her contact with the private Mecha fighting world was limited to information networks or magazines.

So she couldn’t understand Cosmo’s extreme joy when he saw Fatty display the technique of turning one into a hundred. It was from that moment that Cosmo made up his mind. No matter what, he would seize this opportunity to revive the Phantom Stream.

Phantom Stream had been in decline for too long.

So long that many people no longer remembered that this school was once one of the Eight Great Schools. And so long that everyone even forgot that this ancient school deserved necessary respect.

In Free Port, when other schools were flourishing with talents burgeoning everywhere, the Phantom Stream, and the Smith family that represented it, could only hide in the corner, following the rules and not daring to cross the line. However other schools divided interests, the Smith family had to accept it.

No one cared what the people of this school thought. In everyone’s eyes, Phantom Stream was just surviving on past accumulations, barely holding on. When one day this school no longer even had the qualification to accompany, it would become the dessert for other schools to share.

Cosmo knew since he was a child. Even if he was the recognized genius of the family, even if his strength had reached the level of a Mecha Knight early, he could only watch those peers who were far less hardworking and less talented than himself ride on his head relying on the power of their school and family.

As a proud genius Mech Knight who regarded the revitalization of Phantom Stream as his life’s first goal, nothing was more painful and humiliating than such an experience.

Accepting the interview was Cosmo’s only way to contact Tian Xingjian.

Even though he knew how much trouble his words would cause when they reached Free Port, and how the arrogant schools and families would ridicule him and his family, he didn’t care.

Because he knew everything he said was true! This is just based on private Mecha close combat. If it were military Mechas equipped with missiles and Energy Cannons, Cosmo even believed that not even the civilian Mecha War God could match Tian Xingjian.

”It’s not just that I’m unqualified to challenge.” Cosmo’s tone remained calm, without any flattery or exaggeration, ”I believe, including most of the Mechanical Commanders, my father included, are also unqualified.”
