Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 542: Volume 6, Chapter 29: The Legend of Leray (Part 2)_3

”10...9...8...”

The numbers on the screen were counting down.

The deliberately created suspense had gripped the entire Leray Federation. In squares, on streets, in schools, in the military, in the Mecha Fighting Halls, everyone was anxiously staring at their televisions, afraid to blink at the final seconds of the countdown.

”4...3...2...1”

Everyone held their breath. Silence reigned.

On a distant hill, a familiar figure appeared before all the viewers.

”Magic Beast! It’s Magic Beast!” Hearts nearly leaped out of everyone’s chests.

The Magic Beast was silently jogging, with no companions in sight. Directly in its path were the three commanders of the Mythical Army and Reinhardt.

No one knew what would happen. Everyone was dumbfounded by what was unfolding. They watched as the lone Magic Beast gently leaped up the hill, its pace quickening, until it finally transformed into a howling gale and charged towards the four Mecha.

”He’s crazy!” was the first thought in everyone’s mind.

Then, their minds went blank. The world disappeared. All they could see was the leaping, maneuvering, battered Magic Beast.

In the street traffic, a flying car drifted peacefully.

The middle-aged man driving the flying car exhaled softly. His family was still waiting for him at home. At such times, he felt a profound sense of peace. In the chaos of war, his family had remained unharmed, and that was indeed fortunate.

He turned from the lakeside road of Ludelit East District onto Victory Road.

Victory Road Square was packed with people holding large and small national flags. The middle-aged man glanced over, smiling faintly. The Federation Hero had returned; it was bound to be a sleepless night, and there was nothing strange about that. He just felt that the square’s atmosphere was a bit too quiet.

This was the bustling Central District, with one small square after another, street gardens, and department store buildings sliding past the flying car window. Ten minutes passed, and the middle-aged man began to feel uneasy. In every place he passed, similar crowds were gathered. People stared intently at giant TV screens in silence.

What happened?

Perplexed, the middle-aged man turned into his home Space City. When he saw the central courtyard equally filled with people, he stopped his flying car, deciding to get out and see what was going on.

No sooner had he stepped out of the car than a cry filled with pride, excitement, and joy erupted like a bomb.

After an intense and agonizingly long ten minutes, when they saw Reinhardt fleeing in defeat, the previously silent city erupted in joy. Thunderous cheers shook the sky.

The middle-aged man stood there, dumbfounded.

In front of him, people danced and shouted wildly, waving their flags, confetti raining down like droplets from the sky.

A familiar figure ran past the middle-aged man. Quick to respond, he grabbed her: ”What happened? What’s going on?”

”Dad?!” The girl he grabbed hugged him tightly: ”He won, he won!” Her voice was filled with delight, her eyes shimmering with proud and ecstatic tears: ”Oh my God! He single-handedly defeated Reinhardt and the three commanders. It’s legendary...”

”The Legend of Leray!”

This was the headline on the front page of the middle-aged man’s newspaper, published the day after the all-night celebration.

In this report, the middle-aged man had gathered all the words of praise he could find, yet he still felt they couldn’t convey his excitement.

...This was a night for the Leray people. Today, our hero brought us many surprises. These surprises kept Leray awake all night. In this desert of Mechas, in this country attacked in turns by Gazalin, Desic, and Jiepeng, he announced Leray’s strength with a sweeping victory!

Yes, this was a great victory. When Reinhardt fled like a beaten dog, cowardly sacrificing his subordinates’ lives, we saw in our hero the bravery of the Leray Federation, the rise of the Leray Federation!

This was a resounding slap in the face!

From today, those who have looked down upon and mocked the Leray Federation, who saw this nation as something to be carved up at will, would shut their mouths! If they only have the strength of Reinhardt, they should understand that the Leray Federation now has an enemy they cannot defeat!

And from today, we will see a Leray person’s name on the list of top Mecha warriors in the world.

This is our hero!

This is our legend!
