Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 527: Volume 6 Chapter 22 You’re Cheating!

Christopher, whose nose bore a small patch of freckles, felt depressed.

The competition in the gymnasium was about to start, yet he could only guard in front of the 6th Comprehensive Building, hoping anxiously for the instructor to appear.

There was no other choice; after all, his Mecha skills were the worst.

From the distant gymnasium came a surge of noise. The enthusiastic atmosphere seemed to be lifting the gymnasium’s roof. All over the campus, some students who had just finished class were hurriedly packing their books into bags and anxiously running toward the gymnasium, afraid of being too late to find a spot to watch.

Christopher gave another glance at the ever-unchanged calmness of the 6th Comprehensive Building, his feet unconsciously moving closer to the gymnasium. It felt like being nearer to the gymnasium might ease his mind.

He walked a short distance hesitantly, feeling even more uneasy. His desire to watch the competition scratched at his heart like ten cats clawing, an unbearable itch.

Another loud uproar exploded from the gymnasium. Christopher stomped his foot and took off running toward the gymnasium, his mission already thrown to the wind.

**

The gymnasium was packed. On either side of the field, two cylindrical egg-shaped Virtual Cabins were already set up. The virtual screen suspended above the center of the field was gradually showing the background of the virtual network as the colorful light masses dissipated.

Since this was a competition within the Military Academy, the virtual network used the internal training network of the school. There were no commercial settings of ”Sky-Filling Fire.” In the training network, both sides used Training Mechas with performance similar to the Warrior series.

As the Radish Heads anticipated, the first participant sent out by the Capital First Military Academy was Taylor.

The logic was simple. Taylor had the highest level of close-combat Mecha Fighting among the students of the Capital First Military Academy. Whether to ensure not losing the first match or to create an indisputably crushing five-win streak with students, Taylor was the best choice.

If he lost, there were still experts behind him. If he won, Gallipalan College would have no excuses.

”Who goes first?” The Radish Heads looked at each other.

”Veteran second.” Wang Fuxing gritted his teeth. ”I’ll take the lead.”

Thinking about Wang Datou’s arrangement, everyone nodded. Among those with strength comparable to Taylor, only the Veteran, who was the sole Level 7 Warrior, was left. Although the Veteran was rated for Military Mecha and not skilled in close combat, Taylor was only a Level 3 fighter under the rating system. On the surface, the Veteran had a slight edge.

If Wang Fuxing could win against odds, that would be great. If he lost, at least the Veteran could see the opponent’s strength and tactics, which would significantly help in the second match, avoiding the strongest going up first and getting slaughtered, leaving the rest dumbfounded.

With a bell toll, the competition officially started. Amid the thundering cheers, Taylor stepped into the Simulation Cabin first.

On the virtual screen, Taylor’s red Training Mecha swiftly did a straight dash, immediately followed by a zigzag dash upon landing, then a backward jumping maneuver, the Mecha taking off sharply in a near-loss-of-control state due to high-speed inertia, finally turning with a whirlwind kick to the ground.

The gymnasium erupted with cheers and gasps from thousands of spectators. Taylor, worthy of being a Level 3 Mecha Fighter, had proven his prowess just with the few warm-up moves.

Even Thomas and Cosmo couldn’t help but nod. For a Military Academy student practicing amateur Mecha Fighting, achieving this was already impressive.

”Pah!” Wang Datou spat, cursing under his breath, ”What’s there to show off, half-baked water making noise.”

Looking around, the Radish Head companions clearly looked dejected, and even the Veteran and the hired mercenaries had grim faces. Catherine and a few other girls furrowed their brows deeply, realizing Gallipalan College was bound to be humiliated in this competition.

No one from Gallipalan College advanced to meet the challenge promptly. Onlookers from the Capital First Military Academy started a wave of jeers toward Gallipalan College’s camp. The Capital First Military Academy had invited a Level 3 Mecha Knight senior from Free Port to oversee the event, which had already spread throughout the campus. At this moment, news that the youth smiling next to the senior was a Level 1 Mecha Knight stirred the atmosphere up by several degrees, almost to the boiling point.

”What’s the matter?” Belinda, standing beside the Simulation Cabin, noticed Wang Fuxing’s face turning red and white alternately and mocked him, ”Coward, don’t tell me you guys don’t even dare to respond to the challenge?”

”I am small on courage.” Wang Fuxing replied cheekily, ”But other parts of me are big.”

”Scoundrel, you...” Belinda’s face turned pale with anger, clenching her fists ready to strike.

Feigning surprise, Wang Fuxing said, ”Don’t you know? Everyone calls me Wang Datou, my big head isn’t being a scoundrel.” Stepping forward, he posed defiantly: ”You better clarify today; don’t think you can slander me just because you’re a woman! How am I a scoundrel, where am I scoundrel to you?”

Belinda was momentarily at a loss for words, rendered speechless by Wang Fuxing’s reasoning. She was so furious her vision blurred, realizing Wang Fuxing was making a fuss. Biting her lip, she retorted coldly, ”Talking so much still dare not get on the field. If you want to concede, do it quickly! Otherwise, when you lose zero to five later, see where you can hide your faces.”
