Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 536: Volume 6, Chapter 27: He Wants to Become a Disciple

When this face clearly appeared on the TV screen, all the viewers in front of the TV burst into laughter.

In the squares, along the streets, in bars, in homes, who knows how many people at this moment couldn’t help but spit out the water they hadn’t swallowed yet, coughing continuously.

The voice of the host Helen came from the TV, a groan of resigned amusement. This Federation Flower clearly did not expect that in the painstakingly captured close-up, Fatty would have such a punchable expression.

Everyone laughed heartily at this Fatty.

To the children, he looked like a Garfield with drooping eyelids and a grumpy face. To the elderly, he looked like the most cherished child at home, who already an adult, still liked to make faces in front of them. To men, he resembled a friend joking with them while holding a glass of wine. To women, he was like a husband who pampered them but often acted a bit mischievous in front of them.

He was so real, so ordinary, and so close to everyone. In the eyes of the Federation’s people, he was no longer just a name in the news, a photo on a poster, or a vague symbol of a Hero. He was a living, slightly adorable Fatty.

Looking at this face on the screen, everyone smiled and admitted in their hearts that they loved this Fatty.

In the end, Fatty obediently followed behind Boswell, disappearing into the entrance of the complex building. As the tinted automatic doors closed, Helen stomped her feet in disappointment. After much effort in getting there, all she captured was one single frame. Helen felt very reluctant. But she also understood that it was currently impossible to get an interview inside the military lab.

Is the grandly prepared special program going to end like this?

The communicator on her wrist beeped.

”Cousin, where are you?” The moment the communicator was turned on, a voice immediately burst out, ”Did you see him, did you get the shot? Wow, I can’t believe I saw him here, my idol! I’m so happy.”

Helen smiled slightly. The speaker was her cousin Belinda, who had a boyish personality, aspired to join the military, and was a fervent fan of the Federation Hero Tian Xingjian. It was thanks to Belinda’s timely call that Helen knew of Tian Xingjian’s presence at the Capital First Military Academy’s gymnasium.

”I’m...” Helen looked around, ”I don’t know exactly where I am, about a hundred meters from the building Tian Xingjian entered.” She complained, ”You little rascal, why didn’t you call me earlier when such a great opportunity came up, making our special program’s live broadcast capture only one scene.”

”Be happy!” Belinda shouted through the communicator, ”I called you the moment I saw him, and now you’re blaming me! I wanted to give you some info to create a sensational program, but now you won’t get it!”

”Sensational?” Helen was taken aback, urging, ”You dare!”

”Helen,” the cameraman poked Helen, ”the director asks what’s the next step? Should we do live interviews with others?”

”Do!” Helen’s heart was already stirred by Belinda’s words. She knew that her cousin might have detailed information about Tian Xingjian’s appearance. Quickly, she told the cameraman to have someone conduct live interviews to continue the program. She then shouted into the communicator, ”Belinda, come here right now!”

”State your conditions first.” Belinda was clearly an expert in seizing the moment perfectly.

”Clothes, jewelry, gourmet meals, flying cars, mecha, yachts, houses, cash.” Being from a wealthy family, Helen didn’t care about these at all, agreeing readily, ”You can choose anything!”

”No!” Belinda and Helen, coming from the same family, clearly weren’t interested in these, ”You just have to promise me one thing.”

”I promise.” Helen agreed without even asking what it was. To obtain the materials Belinda had, she was willing to pay any price. The special program on heroes was still live; she had to get this bombshell before interviewing the extremely excited cadets and soldiers onsite.

She believed that something Belinda called sensational would surely be beyond ordinary imagination.

”Wait, I’m coming over right now!” Belinda’s voice came through the communicator. Helen then heard her talking to another person, ”Mr. Cosmo....”

A few minutes later, Belinda appeared before Helen with several people.

Seeing Belinda’s flushed face of excitement and the glowing light in her eyes, Helen shivered and couldn’t help but ask, ”Little rascal, what do you want me to promise you?”

”Small matter!” Belinda slyly smiled and changed the subject, pointing at the three people beside her, ”Cousin, let me introduce my classmates, this is Taylor, this is Mr. Cosmo, and this is Mr. Thomas.”

Helen smiled and greeted the three slightly awkward and nervous men, then grabbed Belinda and walked a few steps away. Lowering her voice urgently, ”I’m not here to play. If you don’t explain things to me in three minutes, see how I’ll deal with you!”

Belinda took out an electronic folder from her pocket, shaking it in her hand, ”Do you know why Tian Xingjian was at our academy’s gymnasium?”

”Why?” Helen was interested, urging her, ”Stop teasing.”
