Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 67: Chapter 58: Six Blades Battle the Beasts, Purging the Desert Calamity (Part 1)

Zhou Cong dumbfoundedly accepted the ’Night City’ brand cigarette, reportedly able to simulate part of the tactile sensation of a virtual experience machine, with a taste like a bionic maid giving you a tongue massage.

He hesitated for a moment before speaking:

”You’re not one of us, then whose car is this—”

”Your people, where are you from?”

”Former Major of the Mechanical Legion Zhou Cong, on behalf of all comrades, thank you for your help!”

Zhou Cong wasn’t a headstrong novice and quickly let go of his hesitation. Regardless, this person had saved his entire squad’s lives.

”Former Mechanical Legion member, are you from the front line?”

Gao Gong was intrigued. To his knowledge, the Security Corps had heavily recruited special operations elites within the Mechanical Legion using money to combat the Beast Tide and carry out wide-range intercalated operations with the mechanical line of defense.

He was quite interested in the situation on the front line.

After all, any little movements on the front line would become a storm in the central oasis.

”The front line,” Zhou Cong chuckled bitterly and shook his head, ”The front line is almost unsustainable. At least my Iron Eagle Assault Team has been crushed by the Beast Tide, and this group of defeated soldiers has been fleeing ever since, escaping to here.”

Gao Gong chuckled, ”Then you have really come at the wrong time; we happen to have a Beast Tide here too.”

The faces of the other assault team members changed drastically, but they were much more disciplined than the common rabble and only kept signaling the Major with their eyes.

”Regardless, please tell me the location of the nearest oasis. As a trade, I will share the Legion’s heat source map with you.”

”Isn’t that a leak of military secrets?”

”There’s no such thing as secrets anymore,” Zhou Cong sighed, ”Surviving is the most important.”

The light blue mechanical exoskeleton glanced at the armored vehicle, and immediately, the car’s data terminal emitted a transmission completion sound.

”Tsk, as expected of high-end goods, it’s got so many features. Is it the customized version of Marubeni Global Security? We commoners never get such a treatment.”

Gao Gong glanced at the red sun on the exoskeleton’s shoulder and commented casually.

Zhou Cong thought for a moment, and the exoskeleton on the outside of his thigh made a ’creaking’ sound as it ejected a storage unit with a freezing effect. He took out a vial of medicine from it and handed it over.

”Whatever you’re planning to do, take care.”

Gao Gong took it with some surprise, grinned, and reached out his hand.

”I wish you survive.”

”You too.”

The roar of engines erupted again, and when the armored vehicle was just a small black dot in the eyes of the assault team members, someone couldn’t help but speak up.

”Major, why not let him take us to the nearest oasis?”

”Yeah, at worst we could have hijacked his vehicle. An outsider using our Legion’s vehicle, clearly, this person is not a good guy.”

Another person’s eyes emitted a fierce glint, since ancient times, defeated soldiers had no military discipline, especially as the Mechanical Legion never had ’military ethics’, only ’mechanical regulations’.

”You’ll only die faster that way,” the Major calmly glanced at this person, ”Do you know what this person’s aura reminded me of? Bio-Fusion Warriors from the Mother City.”

”Bio-Fusion Warriors, how is that possible?!”

”Let’s go, hurry and get on the road. Try to reach Automobile City before dark, after dark, radiation monsters only become more dangerous.”

On the vehicle

”Nice injector.”

Tamil Molecule Injector: Perception +3, Attention +30%, activates the ’alertness’ button of the mixed neural system with drugs, duration: half an hour.

Gao Gong glanced at it, then casually put the injector aside. It was just a small episode and didn’t pay much attention to it.

”Boss, the map has been sent to you,” Iron Hide said casually from the front.

Gao Gong opened the electronic screen, grabbed it, and projected it forward.

The map was densely covered with radiation sources, giving the impression like the map had broken out in hives.

On the map, blue marks were E-level Radiation Beast Swarms, red were D-level, purple were C-level, and black were B-level.

The red radiation circle dominated the map.

”Let’s go here.”

Gao Gong casually pointed to a connected red area.

”Okay!”

Gao Gong casually opened the leaderboard and searched for his name.

Ranked 56th.

Tsk, after ten days of slacking, my rank didn’t drop as much as I thought.

However, the top ten rank of the leaderboard was a clear watershed.

The number one on the list was the Symbiotic Squad, whose points amounted to ’5 million’.

These points were calculated based on the radiation value of the Radiation Beasts, with F-level averaging 10 points, E-level 100 points, D-level 1,000 points, and C-level 10,000 points.

You can simply calculate that over half a month of battle, the Symbiotic Squad has killed a total of 500 C-level Radiation Beasts.

This directly widened the gap between the second and ninth positions.

’Revived Dead’ had just over 2 million, and Miyamoto Sanzang had over 1 million.

Gao Gong checked his points, well, 480,000.

”I’ve killed a fair amount myself.”

Gao Gong closed his eyes for a nap.

The armored vehicle’s shock absorption and soundproofing were excellent. Even as the number of radiation beasts outside increased, with the vehicle’s head pushing forward against the beast swarm, there was not a sound inside.

”Boss, we’ve arrived.”

Iron Hide wiped away the leaking machine liquid; the boss wasn’t nervous, but he was so nervous he could die. Several times, he nearly got completely surrounded by the beast horde.

Gao Gong awoke, and the implantation of Reaper Cells had changed his physiological traits. He was like a Radiation Beast, no longer distinguishing between day and night. With a short nap of one or two hours between hunts, he could satisfy an entire day’s sleep needs.

He even felt more energetic at night.

Amid the sound of the air pump, the heavy armored car doors lifted, and two Human-headed Dogs scampered out playfully.

Gao Gong opened the trunk, revealing an array of weapons: Red Unicorn, Nekomata, Steel Rope Claw, High-speed Microcomputer Tiger, Beast Hunting Device Iron Rain, pistol, dagger.

Gao Gong inserted the barely repaired Red Unicorn into the Electromagnetic Exciter.

This red knife’s blade back already had cracks and couldn’t be used many more times.

But Gao Gong had long since prepared. Next to the Red Unicorn were six nearly two-meter-long ’Horse-Cutting Sabers.’

The blades looked very much like the first version of the Red Unicorn, with threaded handles and serrated tips, and the blade back was thickened.

The only difference was that its blade was twice as thick as the Red Unicorn’s.

While the Red Unicorn still had the elegant and dangerous feel of a ’Miao Blade.’

These six ’Green Reapers’ had only danger left to them, even emanating a faint sense of devouring oppression.

Name: Green Reaper

Category: Biological Blade

Quality: Fine

Weight: 16.4kg

Basic Attributes: DPS:70.5, Attack Power:56, Attack Speed:0.8 attacks/second, Attack Range:2 meters

Additional Attributes: Armor-Piercing (+13.9% Armor-Piercing Damage), Bloodlust (+15% Bleeding Chance), Biological Suppression

Biological Suppression: A special weapon made from Biological Blade Limbs, it naturally has a sense of oppression to certain lower food chain beasts.

Note: The Reaper Queen can truly rest in peace, as no part of its body was wasted.

Gao Gong put on a bulletproof vest, with an Electromagnetic Sensor on its back like a copper disk.

This was a modified version of Fat Xiang’s ’Thanos’ Gauntlet,’ which served no other purpose than to hang knives.

Placing the Green Reaper back, its bright blade clung to his back — six in total, resembling a character from a ghost film, ’Left Thousand Households.’

As for the remaining weapons, he packed them in an off-road bag, including some desert essentials like Radiation Needles and Nutrition Paste.

He threw the bag a short distance away, and the two Human-headed Dogs immediately scrambled to play the role of laborers.

”As we agreed before, deliver supplies for me once every two days.”

Iron Hide trembled all over from the excitement. He wanted so much to join the boss in slaying beasts, but with his small frame, he would only be cannon fodder.

”Boss, you— take care!”

...

After Iron Hide left, Gao Gong let out a breath. He didn’t even need to lure monsters; there were already several small beast hordes approaching from three directions within his line of sight.

Moreover, he distinctly felt several strange sensations brushing across his body.

This was the power of the Radiation Circle.

With a light kick of his toe, the two Human-headed Dogs dashed out swiftly.

”Still not enough monsters.”

The next moment, Gao Gong opened the already prepared ’Speaker,’ a deathtrap artifact for countless future players whose effects required no further proof.

Quickly, there were roars, running sounds, and sporadic gunfire.

A long black line appeared within the range of vision.

This should be the southern side of the Blood Ore Hills, with several mineral sources around, thus Mechanical Bio-Beasts were scarce, primarily hosting Radiation Beasts.

Skinning Mane Dogs, Five-legged Leopards, Dirt-Eating Serpents, Hybrid Beasts, Machine Gun Monkeys, Radiation Corpses, Crawlers...

Just from what Gao Gong saw with his ’Prosthetic Eye,’ there were at least nine C-level bosses.

And besides the bosses, there were hundreds of associated Radiation Beast Swarms, easily numbering no less than two thousand.

Gao Gong loosened his wrists, each wrist outfitted with a Hook Launcher.

Biological implants provided many invisible benefits, such as changing a person’s dominant hand habit.

Gao Gong drew out two Green Reapers with a reverse grip.

He was now wielding Dual Blade Style!

’Activate battlefield recording feature.’

”Activate.”

To make others comply, one must demonstrate the ability to flip the table.

A super strong being of the Radiation Zone was enough to cause fear.

”Let’s have some special effects.”

The next moment, the ’Cyan Unicorn’ ignited with ’raging flames.’

The ’Special Effects Device’ was now in version 2.0, reducing environmental effects’ power consumption and focusing on character effects.

With a gentle flick of the blade, dozens of dual-blade Gao Gongs were flung out.

This time, the special effects were realistic enough, at least without pixelation.

Double blade hunting beasts, sweeping disaster for a thousand miles.

The next moment, racing toward the endless beast horde, Gao Gong charged forth.
