His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 2137: Chapter 616: Picking Flowers (Part 2)

Mu Yichen quietly acted as her driver all along. Even though Qin Mu had put it on speakerphone, he never commented throughout the call, nor did he express any opinion after she hung up.

Qin Mu’s words on the phone were something he was quite satisfied with.

Later, after Qin Mu finished her own train of thought, she glanced at Mu Yichen and realized he had been unusually quiet the whole way.

”You asked me to put it on speaker, so why didn’t you say anything?”

Qin Mu asked him.

The silence in the car was finally broken, and Mu Yichen softly and cheerfully told her, ”He should be getting engaged soon. Maybe we’ll get to attend his wedding banquet before the end of the year.”

Qin Mu...

So, Mu Yichen knew that even if Gongzhi Ping’an liked her, he wouldn’t act on it, which is why he remained silent?

Then why ask her to put it on speakerphone?

Sometimes Qin Mu couldn’t understand him, but she always felt that he cared deeply for her, so she happily leaned against his broad shoulder. ”Mu Yichen, the weather isn’t bad today!”

Mu Yichen glanced outside, offering a faint smile.

Because you’re the one beside me, the weather is nice!

——

That day, after arriving at the office, Mu Yichen told Yang Qin: ”Come in!”

Yang Qin was just about to report her work anyway, so without much thought, she carried a stack of documents to his office.

After Mu Yichen sat down, he looked up at the woman walking toward him. He had heard that she had written her resignation letter but hadn’t yet submitted it. He had been waiting—one day, two days, three days—but she made no move. Yet he needed to provide Qin Mu with some explanation and had also grown disappointed in Yang Qin.

Regarding that day’s events, though he had taken some responsibility, he was not in a clear state of mind then, while Yang Qin was. Why did she sit on his bed?

After Yang Qin finished her report, she quietly said, ”Then if there’s nothing else, I’ll head out!”

”Wait!”

Mu Yichen leaned back into his chair, elbows resting on the armrests, hands clasped together. His piercing black eyes fixed intensely on the secretary in front of his desk.

Yang Qin glanced at him, then quickly looked down again, not knowing why, but feeling somewhat anxious inside.

”Is there anything else?”

For the past few days, they hadn’t mentioned anything or acted differently. The calmness made Yang Qin feel that the incident had passed, but now she felt that the person looking at her was about to throw her off the building’s top floor. She reached out, trying to grasp something, but couldn’t hold onto anything in time.

”I heard you submitted a resignation letter?”

Mu Yichen asked, quite casually, as if discussing an ordinary matter.

Yang Qin gathered her courage to look at him, feeling cornered and unable to move, as if there was a knife at her throat, and she could only answer, ”Yes!”

Was it Xi Meng who told him?

Xi Meng really was Qin Mu’s ally. She even thought Xi Meng was the person she could confide in the most in Rongcheng. Could it be that the things she said to Xi Meng were immediately relayed to Qin Mu?

”They’ve already mentioned your personnel transfer on that side and intend to promote you.”

Mu Yichen lowered his head, habitually fiddling with his ring, his dull voice reminding her.

After hearing this, Yang Qin didn’t feel relieved as she anticipated. Although not being dismissed moved her, he personally calling for her departure...

Yang Qin recalled what Xi Meng had said, that Mu Yichen was waiting for her to take the initiative, and if she didn’t do so for an extended period, he would personally ask her to leave.

Sure enough!

The day had finally come!

”Boss, I...”

Yang Qin lowered her head as well, clutching the documents tightly in both hands, not knowing what to say to him.

Mu Yichen looked out the window: ”No need to say much. Perform well after you return, and your future won’t be too bad.”

After hearing this, Yang Qin nodded. These were just platitudes he was telling her—what more could she say?

In his presence, she never could speak from the heart.

Afterward, as she left, Qiao Yi and Zhao Huai were called into the office by Mu Yichen. Once the two entered, they both felt a bit tense.

”Yang Qin is returning. You two find someone to take over her duties and resolve the issues in the coming days.”

Mu Yichen said in a low voice.

Zhao Huai and Qiao Yi exchanged a glance, unable to suppress a sigh.

”I’ve heard about the incident, but Yichen, she’s just a young woman. Don’t be too hard on her, okay?”

Qiao Yi couldn’t help but plead for Yang Qin.

”I don’t blame her; do I blame you? You were the one who recommended her to me, guaranteeing how dedicated and capable she was, claiming she was far better than Xi Meng.”

Mu Yichen asked him lightly, casually opening a document to read, his head lowered.
