Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 433: Chapter 375: Energy Counteraction

Gu Wei was scared shitless, almost literally.

He certainly knew how terrifying Lu Li could be and was aware that his current power might be enough to destroy the Earth’s surface.

Therefore, when he heard Lu Li say, ”Earth is about to be destroyed,” Gu Wei really thought the other was about to destroy Earth, which is why he felt such immense fear.

Even though he was scared out of his wits, the thought of the hundreds of billions of lives worldwide made him grit his teeth. Summoning up his courage, he pleaded, ”Mr. Lu, I know you have immense divine power and limitless mana; destroying the Earth’s surface would be no problem. However... however... however, none of us on Earth have offended you, and besides, your parents, relatives, and friends all live on Earth. If you destroy the surface, then...”

Lu Li looked at him speechlessly and replied with irritation, ”Who said I want to destroy Earth? How did you come up with that idea?”

”Uh...” Gu Wei was stunned and weakly replied, ”Aren’t you going to destroy Earth? And yet, you just said Earth is about to be destroyed?”

Lu Li replied earnestly, ”Earth is indeed about to be destroyed—or rather, Earth won’t be destroyed, but the organisms on its surface are on the verge of extinction. I, on the other hand, have the ability to foresee the future—thirty-three days, twelve hours, and twenty-four minutes from now, a gamma-ray burst will sweep through the solar system, completely destroying Earth’s atmosphere and causing the demise of all life on Earth.”

He has the ability to foresee the future?

He sensed that a gamma-ray burst will visit the solar system in a little over thirty days?

Gu Wei had long revered Lu Li like a god, but listening to this still made him a bit incredulous.

Regardless of foreseeing the future, or that a gamma-ray burst would visit the solar system, deep down, he was not quite convinced.

Predicting the future is too far-fetched.

With so many random factors, how can someone possibly predict it?

Moreover, the closest star to the solar system, Proxima Centauri, is 4.25 light-years away, and no sign of an imminent explosion has been observed.

Okay, even if Proxima Centauri exploded 4.25 years ago,

it’s still a red dwarf star, not a supernova explosion.

How could it possibly release such dreadful high-energy photon radiation like a gamma-ray burst?

Lu Li sensed the disbelief and was not the slightest bit angry, ”I know you don’t believe what I’m saying, but I still hope that when you return to Earth later, you pass this message on to your boss, and let him inform all countries around the world. Then have the nations of the world put their heads together to see if they can come up with a way to counteract the gamma-ray burst.”

Although Gu Wei didn’t believe that a gamma-ray burst would visit the solar system, he was still going to strictly carry out Lu Li’s request, ”Okay, I will report it.”

In the short time they chatted, Gu Wei suddenly noticed the extreme brightness outside and only then refocused his attention back into the holographic view.

Then he was surprised to discover that in just those few minutes, the mecha had already brought him and Lu Li to the Moon’s south pole!

It probably took just over two minutes.

Judging by this, a speed of three thousand kilometers per second must be real!

At this moment, the Moon was experiencing ”perpetual daylight.”

This phenomenon is due to the tilt of the Moon’s rotational axis, typically lasting more than 180 days.

Gu Wei, being knowledgeable, was naturally aware of this information, but he didn’t understand why the mecha flew here.

He asked the question, ”Mr. Lu, what are we doing here?”

Lu Li answered very seriously, ”Sunlight contains all electromagnetic waves from radio waves, microwaves, visible light, ultraviolet rays, X-rays to gamma rays. I foresee that a gamma-ray burst will visit the solar system in thirty-three days, so I’ve been working on a solution. Eventually, I thought of energy counteraction to neutralize the power of the gamma-ray burst, which is how this mecha came into existence. I designed it to release high-energy photon radiation to counteract the gamma-ray burst. It’s just that I’ve only designed it and haven’t yet tested whether it can fulfill this energy counteraction with gamma rays, so we’re here to experiment.”

Gu Wei was a bit puzzled, ”But we don’t have an instrument to detect gamma rays. How will you test it?”

Lu Li pointed to his eyes, ”My eyeballs are the instruments; they can observe gamma rays.”

Gu Wei believed this entirely and appeared very curious, ”As far as I know, theoretically, energy counteraction can’t neutralize light energy. Isn’t there a high possibility of this experiment failing?”

”Theory is theory,” Lu Li patiently explained, ”In reality, as long as the waveform matches, light energy can also be canceled out, like in a moment...”

He stopped talking midway through his sentence.

Gu Wei dared not ask any more questions, so he used the holographic view to observe the situation.

Lu Li sensed the waveform of sunlight, then transmitted a command to the mecha to adjust the waveform of the high-energy photon radiation.

The next moment, Gu Wei saw through the holographic view that a massive cannon barrel rose from the back of the mecha, probably about twenty meters in diameter.

When the barrel rose, it immediately shimmered with intense light.

Then, Gu Wei saw an astonishing high-energy photon beam gushing out of the barrel.

As this high-energy photon beam burst out, it quickly expanded, diffusing into a vast, immeasurable expanse of light waves, meeting with the sunlight shining on the Moon.

An incredible scene naturally unfolded!

The instant the two different light waves touched, they ”melted” away!

Gu Wei could clearly see the large area around the mecha suddenly dimmed.

It’s like the light source disappeared, returning this place to night.

No, it’s not just as simple as night.

It’s completely dark, pitch black, where you can’t see your hand before your eyes!

Gu Wei was greatly shocked, gaping and stammering, ”Light energy can actually be canceled out by energy counteraction?”

Lu Li operated the mecha to stop emitting the high-energy photon radiation, retracting the cannon barrel back into the mecha.

He turned his head and smiled, ”Since I’ve proven that light energy can be canceled out by energy counteraction, can you believe now what I said earlier about a gamma-ray burst visiting the solar system in thirty-three days? I sensed your skepticism earlier.”

Gu Wei, whose thoughts were exposed, could only respond with a wry smile. He finally confirmed one thing—that Lu Li indeed could sense what others were thinking and perform such extraordinary feats.

He originally didn’t believe that a gamma-ray burst would visit the solar system in thirty-three days.

Only now Lu Li has demonstrated that light energy can be canceled out by energy counteraction.

Therefore, there is no sense in him making up this information.

Gu Wei’s face turned pale, almost entirely certain about Lu Li’s statement.

Which means, in thirty-three days, a gamma-ray burst will visit the solar system and wipe out the Earth’s surface organisms!

”I...” His tone became incredibly solemn, ”believe.”

Lu Li nodded with satisfaction, ”It’s good that you believe me. Don’t forget to relay my words when you go back. Also, there’s one more thing I need to remind you.”

Gu Wei instinctively turned his head and asked, ”What?”

Lu Li smiled faintly, ”The power I possess is not just about destroying the surface; it can... obliterate a star!”

Gu Wei’s pupils suddenly dilated!

Although he had long known that Lu Li’s strength was unbelievably powerful to the public.

He even ”overestimated” believing the Ugly Country’s aerospace monitoring speculations about ”destroying the surface” capability.

But he really didn’t expect that Lu Li’s strength had already reached such terrifying levels as to truly destroy a planet!

Lu Li didn’t say much more, ”Alright, let’s head back. I’ll give you some mecha technology later, and then I have to fully prepare for the gamma-ray burst event that is due in thirty-three days.”

With that, the mecha once again flew at high speed, returning to Earth.

...

On Earth.

The mecha slowly landed in the yard of Shanglin Garden Villa.

Gu Wei realized the seriousness of the situation, and as soon as he got out, he said to Lu Li, ”I need to make a call first.”

Lu Li walked towards the house, ”Go ahead, feel free.”

Gu Wei quickly took out a specially-made phone and dialed his boss’s number.

Ring.

Ringing.

After a few rings, the call got connected.

A dignified elderly male voice came from the other side, ”Xiaogu, what’s the matter so late?”

Gu Wei quickly lowered his voice and said, ”I have something to report to you.”

The elder said, ”Go ahead.”

Gu Wei took a deep breath and said in a nearly trembling voice, ”Mr. Lu just told me he has the ability to foresee the future. Do you believe that?”

The elder was stunned and laughed, ”Even if Mr. Lu said he has the power to destroy a planet, I’d believe it. Why not believe future sight?”

”It’s good that you believe.” Gu Wei finally breathed a sigh of relief, ”He said he predicted that thirty-three days later, a gamma-ray burst will hit the solar system, destroying Earth’s atmosphere and wiping out all life on Earth!”

Elder: ”...”

Gu Wei couldn’t hear a response from the elder and thought the other person was also scared speechless by this shocking news.

He whispered again, ”Are you listening?”

The elder felt helpless and said, ”I’m listening. Did Mr. Lu really ask you to tell me this?”

Gu Wei seriously said, ”Yes, why would I lie to you?”

The elder repeatedly confirmed, ”A gamma-ray burst will arrive in thirty-three days, destroying all life on Earth?”

Gu Wei nodded, ”Yes, Mr. Lu also asked me to tell you to quickly spread this news to all countries worldwide, so everyone can brainstorm how to deal with this great disaster of the gamma-ray burst.”

The elder spoke very calmly, ”Alright, I know.”

After saying that, he clicked the phone to end the call.

...

On the other side, in Beijing.

The elder half lay on the bed, both amused and annoyed, shaking his head.

His wife next to him noticed, ”Why this expression?”

”Isn’t it that Xiaogu again.” The elder remarked in annoyance, ”He exaggeratedly said Mr. Lu asked him to pass a message that thirty-three days later, a gamma-ray burst would hit the solar system, destroying all life on Earth. Didn’t you hear me on the phone just now?”

His wife’s face turned serious, ”I asked you precisely because I heard.”

The elder frowned, ”Do you mean to believe this statement?”

His wife said, ”Believing it or not is one thing. If one day, a gamma-ray burst indeed hits the Earth, how should we guard against it? So I think since Mr. Lu let Xiaogu relay this information, regardless of its truth, you should take it seriously. On one hand, follow what he said; on the other, think of countermeasures. When the gamma-ray burst doesn’t happen, fine, we lose nothing. But if it really comes... perhaps these thirty-three days are our last deadline to find a way to save ourselves. Do you think I’m right?”

Yeah.

Better if it doesn’t come.

But what if it really happens?

Though the elder didn’t believe Lu Li’s ”prediction,” he thought his wife made sense; it’s wise to be prepared.

With this thought, he threw back the covers, ”I’m going out, you go to sleep first.”

His wife, probably guessing his destination, understandingly said, ”Okay, wear an extra layer; the weather’s getting cooler outside.”

”Got it.”

The elder changed his clothes and headed out with his jacket.

Truthfully, although he prepared to act as Lu Li said, deep down, he didn’t believe this information.

Or rather, he didn’t even believe that Lu Li could ”predict the future.”

Earlier, when he said he believed during the call with Gu Wei,

it was because he worried that Lu Li had some ”divine power just above one’s head” ability.

”Gamma-ray burst hitting the solar system?”

The elder shook his head, ”I find it hard to believe.”
