Counterfeit Hero

These battles all share a common characteristic, intensity. In a very short time, in very specific battles, there are too many unpredictable elements, making it hard to control all battles from a commanding perspective.

Therefore, casualties appearing in class battles is a very normal thing. What a Commander needs to do is to instruct soldiers on how to fight. In most low-level matches, as long as mistakes are not made, one can win the battle. However, that doesn’t mean there will be no casualties at all!

Being unable to achieve a zero-casualty victory against the computer has become a consensus among all players entering this game.

Decades ago, experiments were conducted, and once it was understood that the more the utilization conditions are, the stronger the computer is, no one challenged the zero-casualty objective again.

Firstly, because it was meaningless to an Advanced Commander, and secondly, because taking a simple example of playing chess with the computer, people understood that defeating the computer might not be a problem, but achieving a complete victory without losing a piece is extremely difficult.

Nothing more could be said. Having fought in ”Thousand-Mile Victory” since twelve and rose to the rank of Vice Admiral, experiencing tens of thousands of matches, Margaret always regarded being unable to achieve a zero-casualty victory against the computer as basic knowledge of this game. This knowledge was even confirmed by Hastings, because the best record Hastings achieved in the game in his younger years was one death and one injury.....

But now, that common knowledge has been broken!

How did this Fatty do it?! Margaret quickly forgot about the ”Sky-Filling Fire” that was troubling her mind and clicked on a zero-casualty battle record to check it out.

After the end of one battle, she clicked on the second. Then, the third... the fourth...

”These thirty zero-casualty matches, did you play them?!” After watching seven or eight matches, Margaret looked up at Fatty, asking incredulously.

”If not me, then who?” Fatty looked at Margaret’s surprised gaze, and his vanity immediately inflated, proudly saying.

”Play one more match for me to see.” Margaret said.

”I showed you mine... you also have to show me yours.” Fatty raised half an eyebrow at Margaret, earning a roll of the eyes, only then did he contentedly open the match program, letting the system randomly select a class match.

In this match, the battlefield was in the East Suburb of a giant city.

The infantry squad commanded by Fatty was responsible for cooperating with the system’s defending forces to guard a position composed of a collapsed factory and several trenches. The defensive line on which the position stood was garrisoned by a whole infantry regiment of the defending forces. This included a direct armored company, three infantry battalions, and an artillery battalion. The attacking forces commanded by the system consisted of two fully Mechanized Infantry regiments. After the data on both sides were converted according to the formula for setting attack and defense levels, they were approximately the same.

The battle situation was automatically generated, and Fatty’s task was to complete the share that this squad was supposed to achieve. Block the enemy’s attack. Once one of the victory conditions, such as eliminating a certain number of opponents or delaying time, was met, the system would automatically make a determination.

The battle started intensely. Smoke rose everywhere, and guns and artillery roared like thunder.

Both the system’s attacking and defending forces, as background and related combat conditions, were fighting fervently. The aircraft in the sky, the voices of commands in the system channels, requests for aid, all resembled a real battlefield.

The position Fatty was responsible for naturally and deservedly came under enemy attack.

Pouring artillery fire rained down on the position, and waves of enemies surged towards it. There were even enemies maneuvering in from positions on the flank that had been breached.

Margaret saw that no matter how intense the battle was, from the start of the match, Fatty’s eyes never left the system condition area. Under his hand, command after command was rapidly issued.

In his command, as if moving as one, ten soldiers held the position, fiercely fighting back and forth with the computer’s attacking soldiers. Each of their positions was constantly changing, and their attacks on the enemies were very precise. Firepower was often able to concentrate on the key strike positions of the enemy, and the artillery suppression was also very accurately called, without any waste.

This was a battle calculated by the second! With every second, the fighting team under Fatty’s command was changing.

Margaret found herself completely unable to keep up with Fatty’s command rhythm. She could only focus on one aspect of the battle to verify her judgment.

”Three, two, one!” Margaret counted in her heart.

As her countdown ended, an order for everyone to enter the pits for shelter flashed on the screen.

The second the command was executed, the entire position was completely covered by the enemy’s artillery. Violent explosions raised countless debris and stones, and fierce flames rolled along the trenches, sweeping everything in their path.

Margaret’s heart pounded furiously. Gauging the timing of the enemy’s artillery coverage was not hard.

Even without SkyNet’s guidance, in such low-level battles, as long as one paid attention to the extension and transfer pattern of enemy artillery fire, the timing and direction of enemy infantry attacks, the combat situation of adjacent friendly positions, and whether one’s own artillery was being suppressed and continuously firing, one could know the timing of the enemy’s artillery coverage over this position!

However, when a squad leader in battle continuously commands soldiers to change positions, guides shooting and routine evasion, directs concentrated fire on enemy dense areas, controls the timing for Portable Missiles and Fusion Hand Grenades, calls for air support, and even sets covering coordinates for the rear artillery battalion, and can so precisely grasp the timing to avoid the enemy’s artillery coverage, without wasting a single second, this can only be described as terrifying!
