Counterfeit Hero

”Marshal Mikami never thought the Suss people could gain a foothold here,” said the Jiepeng Colonel, leaning crookedly on his chair with a smile. ”This time, the Suss have lost their face, and our fleet has all the more reason to stay here. It’s not us who don’t want to leave; it’s just that our Allies are too incompetent!”

The Senior Officers in the conference room were chattering animatedly, their words full of sarcasm towards the Suss.

”General... you...” Suddenly, a guard’s voice came from the corridor, accompanied by the sound of hurried footsteps, and the door of the conference room was slammed open.

The Jiepeng officers jumped up as if on springs, looking towards the door in surprise.

The face of Suss Admiral Ulianov was stern as he barged in. The unrestrained boasting of these Jiepeng officers, while he was waiting next door for Jiepeng Fleet Commander Bram Mandes, made him fume with anger.

The inexplicable defeat he suffered had already worn him out. Not only did the Military Department severely reprimand him, but even Emperor Su issued an edict to censure him. He and his Front Army had become the laughingstock of the entire human world.

If it were other countries mocking him, he might have let it go. But the incessant sarcasm coming to his ears was from these uninvited, shameless, damned Jiepeng people!

”General Ulianov!” In the conference room, a nearly fifty-year-old Vice Admiral, the highest-ranking officer, stepped forward with a grim expression, ”Do you have any business?”

Ulianov let out a cold laugh: ”Please tell Admiral Mandes and Marshal Mikami that in this battle, the Suss are determined to take Mars and control the main channel... The situation in Resk is urgent. If the passageway is opened, I urge our Jiepeng friends to accelerate their northward advance! Staying here boasting serves no purpose.”

Having said this, Ulianov tossed a combat plan filing and coordination document onto the desk, shot a cold glance at everyone, snorted, and left with a sweep of his sleeve.

The Jiepeng officers looked at each other in bewilderment. After a long pause, a Jiepeng Lieutenant Colonel muttered, ”Suss people... starting to boast again!”

”This time, they seem quite confident.” The Vice Admiral sitting at the arc top of the round conference table picked up Ulianov’s document. It was encrypted, visible only to Mikami Yuto. He weighed the digital folder in his hand: ”Gershkov never fights unprepared battles. His command tactics in space combat are almost supernaturally skilled. Ulianov is a famous commander on the charts, adept at using crafty strategies. It seems they dare to boast because they are indeed well-prepared.”

”I’ve heard... the Binart Empire is involved in this.”

**********************************************************************************************

Under the dim lighting of the room, old-fashioned palace furniture appeared magnificent, heavy, and silent.

The curtains were drawn, leaving only a small slit. Sunlight filtered through the gap into the room, filled with countless floating dust particles.

The wardrobe mirror leaning against the corner of the wall reflected the far end of the rectangular room. In the mirror, Kubo crossed his legs, sitting on a soft, spacious blue and white patterned sofa. The cigar between his fingers burned quietly. The fiery red tip sent wisps of blue smoke spiraling upward.

Utherred Anmon gently pulled at the cabinet door, slowly shifting the mirror toward himself.

A distorted face appeared in the mirror.

Anmon focused intently on his reflection in the mirror. After a long time, he raised a hand, obsessively caressing his forehead.

There was an oval-shaped metal protruding forward. The metal extended to the back of his head, forming the entire skull cap, then downward, wrapping the ears and stretching to the nape. Under the light, it reflected a silvery-white sheen.

In the mirror, Kubo could not bear to turn his head away.

Anmon started to laugh. A soundless laugh.

To ordinary people, someone equipped with this metal skull was almost synonymous with a monster.

But... his fingers traced backward along his forehead, the cool metallic sensation flowing at his fingertips gave him the feeling of power!

An almost divine power, controlling everything!

”The competition starts tomorrow.” Kubo’s voice echoed in the empty room, a little dry, a little constrained: ”Lieutenant Anmon, the Mecha shell has been modified. You will serve as the seed player for the Tai Sect, entering directly into the top sixteen the day after tomorrow. By the finals, not only will the top brass of Carolina and the Fei Alliance Mars Front Army be present, but the overall commander of the Chuckna 12th Group Fleet, Zhang Pengcheng, and the commanders of the three fleets will also be there...”

”I don’t want to hear it.” Anmon, still staring absently at his reflection, interrupted Kubo. ”I know my mission very well. As long as they show up at the finals, I will send them all to hell. What I need to know is whether those idiots from the Suss have already made their preparations.”

”Yes.” Kubo bowed his head, looking at the floor: ”We have already contacted Admiral Gershkov. Once we succeed here, they will take the opportunity to attack. I believe the Fei Alliance forces, whose leadership will be annihilated, absolutely lack the ability to resist. We will sweep through all of Mars and the main channel in one go...”

After licking his parched lips, Kubo looked up and flattered: ”Of course, the main credit belongs to you.”

”Hehehehe...” Anmon’s laughter was eerie like a night owl’s hoot, soon turning into wild laughter.

”It’s said that Mars’ Mecha close combat is second to none in the world. This time...” Anmon’s mad laughter turned his metal-tipped skull, and his twisted face held an open mouth without a hint of a smile. His protruding, lifeless eyes stared at Kubo like dead fish: ”...I, a mere Lieutenant of the Binart Empire, will earnestly witness it.”
