Counterfeit Hero

”Wrong?!” Carolina sneered furiously.

Does this Fatty think this place is a kindergarten, where bullying a little kid is forgiven with a simple ”I was wrong” and everything is fine?

Carolina had seen many children, the relatives of friends, behaving just like this Fatty when admitting mistakes!

As soon as you turn around, he’d immediately commit the same mistake again! When you catch him again, he’d quickly bow his head and say ”I was wrong!” and then do it again once your back is turned. If caught once more, he’d still shamelessly repeat ”I was wrong!” as if nothing bothers him! Doing this dozens of times in a day is not uncommon!

Whether it’s being mischievous or forgetful, they’re merely clueless children. Yet this Fatty dares to put on such a shameless act in front of her?

How could he be so shameless!

Even if Carolina was naive, she could see the look on Fatty’s face—while it seemed earnest and deep, it actually bore two parts mockery and eight parts flirtation. This expression matched that casually uttered ”wrong!” which was as crisp as biting a broad bean. It was far more infuriating than him spitting at Sammon’s face or striking Jason’s crotch.

He simply did not regard the Feiyang Army and herself!

Carolina suddenly felt as if a massive stone blocked her chest, changing even the sound of her breathing, her mind blank, hands and feet icy cold.

Fatty is a Major General. He’s the same rank as the Leray Major General.

Although she was the commander-in-chief of the Mars Front Army, her relationship with Fatty could only be defined as a partner in the Allies, certainly not a superior-subordinate relationship. Besides having greater authority in work or combat command, with guidance over Fatty’s First Army, administratively, Fatty could only be appointed or dismissed by the Alliance Command Center.

Previously in Gazalin, even Fiscella couldn’t control this Fatty, and now she had even less means to manage him.

He cared not whose hands Mars Planet fell into; the bandit army had long been dragged off somewhere unknown. Here, he was just a solitary general, shameless and reckless. Coupled with his friendship with Chuckna Admiral Zhang Pengcheng, he had become a stubborn stain in the soup!

Who could possibly be more frustrating and infuriating than such a scoundrel?

A strong sense of powerlessness assailed Carolina. At that moment, countless ways to deal with Fatty flashed through her mind, none of which she could truly implement.

However, Carolina was no longer the fresh-faced young officer just out of the Military Academy.

In this simple yet complex military environment, mere exposure was enough to cultivate considerable cunning. If it weren’t that this Fatty was extremely infuriating, Carolina wouldn’t even change her expression.

Since she lacked the authority to deal with Fatty, she could only, before all the Feiyang soldiers, keep all her anger and frustration bottled up inside, saying with a blank expression, ”Since you admit you were wrong, well, I will report this matter truthfully to the Alliance Command Center. From now on, temporarily suspend all your activities......”

Carolina didn’t want to get entangled with Fatty.

Suss’s military actions against Mars Free Channel were about to unfold. Much preparation was needed to block the Suss people outside Mars Channel. Control of Mars Planet was also reaching a critical moment. Although Cheng Zhixuan was coordinating the plans, integrating thousands of factions and forces was indeed no easy matter.

Carolina didn’t expect these Mars people to be much help, nor did she anticipate much from the newly recruited army, which would serve mainly for planetary security maintenance. She only hoped that behind her, tranquility could be maintained. Otherwise, with both internal and external threats, it was incredibly difficult for Feiyang to establish itself in this Star Domain.

Carolina even had some regrets. She felt that if Fiscella hadn’t meddled before her arrival, she wouldn’t have followed Cheng Zhixuan’s advice, resulting in the current confrontational situation.

This mindset developed after the failure of the recent B15 Fleet operation.

Although her usual strong-thinking saw no fault in using the Chuckna Fleet as cannon fodder to preserve the B15 Fleet, she still felt some frustration over the tense and distrustful relationship between the Chuckna people and Feiyang Army. What she feared most was, given the precedent set by B15, who knows what Chuckna or Fatty’s bandit army might do.

Aside from her own Feiyang troops, Carolina couldn’t trust any country’s so-called Allies!

Now, she had no time to continue wrangling with Fatty, choose to set him aside, merely as long as he doesn’t interfere. When Feiyang wins the Free Channel Defense War and fully controls the planet, the time will come to settle scores with him!

Unfortunately, Carolina’s almost swallowing angry speech was coldly interrupted by Fatty. By now, the trademark naive and innocent look had vanished from Fatty’s face. Instead, there was an indescribable mockery: ”Major General Carolina, when I say ’I was wrong,’ it’s just a joke. You didn’t take it seriously, did you?”

The training field fell into dead silence, so quiet that even a pin drop on the ground was audibly clear.

You misread the situation. That’s exactly what the Fatty meant!

Carolina used all her strength to maintain her composure. However, the flush of her face revealed her extreme anger.

”I was just sparring with the warriors...” Fatty let out a cold laugh and said leisurely, ”In real combat, injuries are inevitable, it’s quite normal. This Lieutenant Colonel just mentioned, your Feiyang soldiers’ combat training is based on real scenarios. Getting injured is just routine, just lie in the medical pod for a few weeks. Listening to that, I was in total awe...”

Seeing Carolina’s livid face, Fatty showed no intention of stopping, the sarcasm on his face growing even stronger: ”So, we had a sparring match. Although several warriors were injured, I witnessed the fearless and pain-resistant spirit and extraordinary fighting skills of the Feiyang warriors. They are elite soldiers, the epitome of military men! Furthermore, even if it wasn’t sparring, but actual fighting, how would you report this to the Alliance Command Center?”

Fatty paused for a moment. In the silence that followed, he provocatively raised an eyebrow at the livid Carolina: ”Are you going to tell the Alliance Command Center that twelve elite Special Soldiers from Feiyang attacked me, only to get beaten back by me alone? How embarrassing would that be, right? Besides, the Alliance Command Center wouldn’t believe it, would they? I look so refined, my body is frail, I can’t lift or carry anything...”

As he spoke, Fatty suddenly wrinkled his nose in disdain, with a serious face. He hesitantly pointed at Carolina’s eyes, pulling his head back as he said, ”Major General, you have...eye boogers.”

Fatty’s voice almost echoed throughout the entire training ground. All the Feiyang soldiers, unconsciously, turned their gaze towards Carolina. Being a woman, Carolina’s face turned red upon hearing Fatty’s words. She instinctively used her ring finger to touch the corner of her eye. But she found nothing...

”Oh...” Fatty smiled and said to Carolina: ”I was wrong...”

”Enough!” The anger that was simmering in Carolina finally erupted. That Fatty wasn’t mistaken; he did it intentionally. He was blatantly slandering and twisting the facts...he was openly teasing all the Feiyang people on the training ground!

Carolina’s stern shout made everyone present shiver inside. She gritted her teeth, enunciating each word: ”Major General Tian Xingjian, you will bear all the responsibility for your actions!”

”Alright then. Oh, you better call the medics, Lieutenant Colonel Jason may not be able to handle his personal life independently in the future.” Fatty seemingly paid no mind to Carolina’s words, casually walked over to Jason, nodding at him and said, ”If things don’t go well on that front in the future, don’t force it. If your wife needs help, just let me know. I’ll just consider it a humanitarian act.”

With that, just as Jason, who had just woken up, fainted again, Fatty put on his uniform, waved his hand, and strolled away.

Seeing Carolina’s enraged and resentful glare at Fatty’s departing figure, Margaret couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. She knew that the grudge between Carolina and that Leray Fatty was now set in stone.

In Margaret’s view, as one of Hastings’s students, Carolina did possess outstanding logistical talents. Her capabilities in combat command and troop integration were also quite strong. However, her personality doomed her to not be a suitable leader capable of controlling a battle zone.

Over these days, Margaret observed clearly that Carolina was indeed wholeheartedly safeguarding Feiyang’s interests. However, such protection seemed narrow and shortsighted, sometimes resulting in the opposite effect. Carolina’s obstinate patriotism and her bias and arrogance doomed her to be incapable of sincerely cooperating with the Allied forces.

She didn’t realize that this mindset should have been abandoned ten years ago.

To ordinary people, it still seemed that Feiyang was overwhelmingly dominant. But Margaret, who had long been by Hastings’s side and knew more about the inner workings, understood that ten years ago, Feiyang could no longer suppress the Binart Empire.

For over thirty years, the economy of the Binart Empire had been developing at an unimaginable speed, while Feiyang’s economy continued to decline. Especially in the past decade, if not for Hastings commanding Feiyang’s fleet to traverse the universe and compensate for the economic gap in other ways, Feiyang would have already surrendered its superpower status to the Binart Empire!

Now, the resources of all nations are exhausted to the warning line.

This battle must be fought no matter what.

Carolina still doesn’t understand that Feiyang alone cannot win this war.

Even with the Military God Hastings, it won’t suffice!
