Counterfeit Hero

There was no reprimand or conflict as imagined.

After reporting in, Fatty was casually dismissed by Carolina with a simple ”await orders” and sent off to his assigned dormitory. Seeing the unfriendly faces of the group of Feiyang people in Carolina’s office, Fatty tactfully bid farewell with a forced smile, tail tucked.

He understood in his heart that he was nothing but a lone commander in the Mars Front Army. The Feiyang people, possessing a B-class fleet and two A-class armored divisions, indeed had no need to bother with him.

Although everyone knew the bandit army was his force, they clearly didn’t pay much attention to this insignificant, non-compliant faction. To the Feiyang people, the planet would keep spinning without the bandit army. They would eventually take over this star domain.

The takeover work was proceeding in an orderly fashion.

Under Cheng Zhixuan’s management, an upcoming Mecha tournament, tied to the governing alliance list and sect legitimacy, was enough to capture the attention of most of Mars’s factions.

There were hundreds of sects spread across Mars Free Port. After the bandit army took away top sects like the Black Dragon Sect and Mingxin Sect, for those like the Tai Sect and Absolute Kill Stream that were heavily damaged in the sect wars, and the second and third-tier sects stifled by first-tier sects, what the Feiyang people were doing perhaps offered a chance to turn the tables.

With the participation of these sects and their associated forces, Carolina could completely rebuild a governance system in the Free Port under her control. These sects could also take center stage and become the mainstream of Mars.

In some time, once the tournament was settled, the legality approvals for the sects were completed, and the governing system was in place and began operating, the Sect Mutual Aid Alliance would be completely marginalized. After defeating the Suss and fully controlling Mars, Carolina might even be bold enough to put the bandit army and Shattered Ghost Fleet on a blacklist. By then, regardless of who actually commanded the bandit army, it would completely exit Mars’s stage.

Fatty had to admit, the Feiyang people’s knack for this was indeed impressive. For decades, with their power and robber logic, they successfully meddled in every corner of humanity’s interstellar map, achieving unimpeded success.

The room was number 1308. It used to be a hotel at the First Airport, now remodeled and arranged into officer quarters.

However, the changes were only to the lobby and external signs; inside, it remained a hotel layout. Thick carpets, beautiful wallpaper, soft beds, leather sofas, luxurious furniture, and a centralized hotel-style automatic service system.

As the second-in-command in name under Carolina, Fatty naturally had excellent accommodations. The assigned building nine had dedicated guards, and with only about a dozen rooms in the building, he was essentially alone there. The room was a luxurious suite, from decoration to furniture arrangements and even the model of the automatic service system, all were top notch.

In this aspect, the Feiyang people seemed to not intend to make things difficult. The surface work was done beautifully. However, by merely standing on the balcony, one could discern the Feiyang people’s arrogant and narrow-minded thoughts—beneath the room’s balcony, the large garden along with the parking lot had been converted into a training ground.

Fatty was awoken in the middle of the night by the sound of emergency assembly.

He walked onto the balcony in his underwear.

Below, the training ground was ablaze with lights, with chaotic sounds of Feiyang soldiers’ footsteps, slogans, counting, officers’ shouts, and the roaring of Mechas. The Mecha’s searchlights were swinging around, lighting up the small building where he stayed in bright light.

Fatty raised a brow, these Feiyang people, they’re doing it on purpose!

Fatty stared silently, without a word, at the Feiyang officers occasionally glancing upward from below, finally, in an expression of intolerable posture, slammed the door and returned to the room.

Setting the room’s automatic lighting control system with intervals of differing lengths for on and off sequences, Fatty put on a light-blocking eye mask and placed headphones in his ears configured with a complete filtering program, and continued to sleep soundly.

That night, there were dozens of emergency assemblies by the Feiyang people, almost until dawn. One company finished, and another took over, continuously creating noise.

This wasn’t due to any deliberate order; however, the two Feiyang Armored Divisions stationed at the base already knew everything about what had happened at No.15 Airport the previous day. The lower-ranking officers were indignant and tacitly began their actions to disgust this dare-to-defy-Feiyang lone commander once they found out this Major General of Leray was assigned to building nine.

Watching the lights occasionally flicker in Fatty’s room, all the Feiyang lower-ranking officers felt a sense of satisfaction.

What military commander of the Mars Front Army’s First Army, this Leray fatty, is just a dog that has lost its home running to the Free World, an idiot opposing the Feiyang Republic! How could he not understand that the Feiyang Republic is the backbone of the Fei Alliance! The conflict between Chuckna and Feiyang, how could it be his place to intervene?

Fed up and full!

Arrogance, anger, and humiliation often lead one to lose judgment. Although most of the Feiyang officers and soldiers harbored some disdain towards Sammon, feeling uneasy about the innocent sacrifice of over 30,000 Chuckna soldiers, it did not prevent their anger towards this Leray fatty.

It could even be said that this anger was purely shame and fury for feeling guilty yet accustomed to being high-handed.

However, regardless of what these Feiyang officers and soldiers thought, they clearly underestimated Fatty’s identity and his shamelessness.

The next morning, always unwilling to suffer a loss, the unscrupulous Fatty got up energetically.

After breakfast and doing some weight-loss exercises on the balcony, this commander of the Mars Front Army’s First Army, with a manner befitting an officer, amidst a barrage of dagger-like stares, leisurely walked into the training ground, gathered the officers in charge of training......

”This is all the training intensity you’ve got?” Fatty spat aggressively, pointing at a Major in front of him: ”Look at these soldiers of yours, you call these soldiers? Bah, they’re not even as good as pigs......”

”Officer!” A Captain next to the Major immediately got angry, interrupting Fatty’s words and shouted angrily, ”This is an insult to our Feiyang warriors, please apologize!”

”Apologize?” Fatty shamelessly pointed to the epaulet on his shoulder, ”I’m a Major General, you’re a Captain, I’m the superior, you’re the subordinate. I’m giving you a lecture, and you don’t listen properly, yet you want me to apologize?”

Everyone was dumbfounded. In their lifetime, it was their first time seeing such an uncultured, shameless Major General.

Momentarily speechless, they heard Fatty continue to lash out at the unfortunate Captain: ”What do you mean by your Feiyang warriors? Just for saying this, I can accuse you of trying to sow discord within the Alliance! Now, all countries of the Fei Alliance are under the leadership of the Alliance Command Center, who’s dividing countries? I’m leading you, isn’t your General Fiscella also leading the Leray Army? Everyone is working together fighting with blood and sweat, yet you’re here trying to instigate disputes! Now, listen to my command, about-face...”

The Captain was a bit dazed, standing still without moving.

Fatty coldly squinted at him, ”What, want to add a charge of disobeying a military order?”

The Major hurriedly nudged the Captain.

What made Fatty detestable was that he hit the nail on the head with every sentence. Ever since the formation of the Alliance Command Center, continuously issued Alliance regulations have already centralized the command powers of various countries. This was originally a means for the Feiyang Republic to coordinate the war effort and control the allied forces, as well as to confront the already closely united Western Alliance. However, these regulations have yet to be fully implemented.

But truth be told, if it came to a debate, the Captain would indeed be in the wrong, as these regulations have already formed documents that have been disseminated, and Fatty now criticizing Feiyang soldiers’ training intensity is from the perspective of an Alliance Command lecture. Besides being the commander of the First Front Army, he is also the Deputy Commander of the Mars Front Army and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Combat Department!

With these credentials, lecturing to Feiyang officers and soldiers, everyone really could only listen obediently. Interrupting him during his lecture and demanding an apology was, in theory, like the Captain directly reprimanding a Feiyang Major General. In any country, this would be unimaginable.

The Captain realized after the Major nudged him. Despite his face turning purple, he could only stand at attention and turn around, following Fatty’s order.

”Run a hundred laps around the training ground for me!” Fatty waved his hand, ”Reflect well!”

The Captain begrudgingly went off to run.

”What kind of quality!” Fatty laughed at the pot calling the kettle black, but he didn’t feel it himself.

While many Feiyang junior officers were glad they weren’t as impulsive as that Captain, they saw Fatty turn around once again, angrily and without end, saying, ”I continue... You’re bringing shame to our Fei Alliance Joint Army! With this training intensity, what kind of soldiers can you train?”

All the Feiyang officers had a bad premonition.

Sure enough, they heard Fatty order, ”Now, all soldiers run a hundred laps around the training ground! You also go!”

”￥#**&...@%!”

The first confrontation continued until Carolina arrived in response to the news. When she arrived, an armored camp of officers and soldiers were running around the two-kilometer-long training field, staggering. Even Carolina couldn’t directly rescind Fatty’s order, she could only use other assignments to put an end to this farce.

All of this was seen clearly by Margaret, who had just moved into the room next to Fatty. She knew that the current morale of the Feiyang officers and soldiers was somewhat off, but that’s not her concern. She just wanted to see what else Fatty would do.

”One two three four, two two three four, change positions, once more.”

The next day, Margaret was awakened by Fatty’s voice. Gently lifting a corner of the curtain, she found Fatty next door, calling out the rhythm, waving his arms and legs, his cheeks jiggling like waves.

After exercising, Fatty went downstairs. This time, combat training was taking place on the training ground.

This time, Fatty didn’t use his authority. He just pointed at a Lieutenant Colonel’s nose, said something unknown, and the iron-faced Lieutenant Colonel picked a few soldiers from the group, who had long been unable to hold back.

Morning light filtered through the slit of the curtain, casting into the room, Margaret poured herself a cup of tea, placed a chair, and elegantly crossed her legs.

She really wanted to see if this clumsy-looking Leray Major General was as fierce when facing the combat elite of the Feiyang Armored Division’s Special Forces as he was when he fought with Sammon.
