Counterfeit Hero

The Mechanic Soldier, coming to his senses, let out a wild howl, jumped up, and joined the cheering crowd.

In the midst of the celebration, Zhang Pengcheng’s hand, holding a wine bottle to pour into a glass, was trembling.

If there’s anything in this world most worthy of celebration, it’s undoubtedly escaping death. And if there’s something even more exhilarating than escaping death, it’s turning defeat into victory after escaping!

”Damn it!” Major General Marshall accepted the wine glass handed over by Zhang Pengcheng, his face flushed with excitement, suddenly cursed harshly, and said, ”This time, the 1201 Fleet really owes a big favor!”

”A miracle!” Zhang Pengcheng raised his glass to Marshall, his voice revealing undisguised excitement: ”To the Luu Zecheng Formation!”

”To the rewriting of the Luu Zecheng Formation by a Major General of Leray and a Saleria Major General, with a Chuckna Fleet five hundred years later!” Marshall raised his glass.

After gulping down a large mouthful of wine, the two burst into laughter.

”Although Major General Tian is from the Army and a rookie in direct combat command, in the use of formations, he is after all a student of Russell. Moreover, beside him, there’s also the chief commander of the Saleria Longbow Fleet, who is skilled in space combat.”

Zhang Pengcheng poured wine, corked the bottle, picked up the glass, returned to the command seat with a smile, and sighed: ”If it weren’t for the fact that their battle plan had the formation marked from the beginning, I might have been dazzled by their previous tactics!”

Reviewing the battle, for a Commander, is like a chess player replaying a game, both an important method of accumulating experience and a pleasure every Commander indulges in. Especially reviewing a victorious battle. It’s something every Commander must do after combat.

Although the battle is not yet over, the result is set. Zhang Pengcheng couldn’t wait to replay the victory.

He opened the battle plan on the command console computer, pointing to the battle scheme sent by Fatty, and smiling at Marshall, said: ”When I first saw this plan, I suspected if this fellow wasn’t originally a swindler. To deploy this formation under the enemy’s nose without a touch of deception is simply impossible.......”

Smiling, he tapped twice on the virtual keyboard with his index finger, opened the interstellar map, and said: ”Look here..... just as you said earlier, this battle plan was entirely aimed at ultimately forming the Luu Zecheng Formation. To achieve this, this fellow divided the entire campaign into four different phases of deception.”

Marshall leaned in excitedly, watching the interstellar map while listening to Zhang Pengcheng’s analysis: ”First, Tian Xingjian and Major General Fang Xiang split the battleship group into two routes, detouring to the S20 Star Domain behind the Suss Fleet.......”

Zhang Pengcheng’s finger drew a straight line from the S17 space area on the virtual screen, along S18, S19, S20, and S21 space areas: ”....In this way, it created the illusion for the Suss people that our fleet wanted to avoid the flanking attack from the A2 fleet behind. It forced the enemy, when unable to break free from the entanglement with medium and small warship groups, to take the aircraft carrier as a lead and move toward the farther S21 space area than S20, keeping our fleet always blocked in front of them.”

The discussion of tactics before and after this battle between Zhang Pengcheng and Marshall attracted several senior staff officers at the command table. Unknowingly, many people had already gathered around.

Just listen to Zhang Pengcheng continuing: ”The critical point of this first step is, my cruiser and destroyer group must firmly restrain the enemy’s destroyer and cruiser group, forcing them unable to retreat as a whole. Otherwise, if we move, the enemy fleet would also move entirely, and we could never turn the battleship’s bow around to make the subsequent moves.”

The surrounding staff all nodded. This was the point they were most amazed by this SM.King. Under his or her command, the enemy’s destroyer and cruiser group couldn’t break free, and was even beaten 16-0! Clearly, SM.King had achieved this.

Zhang Pengcheng continued: ”Then, it’s the second step, our six fighter squadrons........”

His finger drew a twisted advance line on the virtual map: ”When the Suss people discovered our fighter squadrons, to ensure the favorable terrain occupied by the aircraft carrier and ensure the safety of the aircraft carrier, they could only accelerate the withdrawal of battleships and also recalled all their fighters. I think, at this time, the Suss Commander must have thought we were trying to execute a decapitation tactic! Unfortunately, he didn’t understand, this was just one link in freeing ourselves from their entanglement to calmly arrange the Luu Zecheng Formation.”

A staff officer scratched his head embarrassingly. When he first saw the real-time battle plan No. 1, he thought the same.

”By the time the enemy’s battleships and fighter groups started to withdraw, we took absolute advantage in the battle between the cruiser and destroyer.” Zhang Pengcheng sighed: ”If I were the Suss Commander, seeing the cruiser and destroyer group severely damaged and detached from the main formation, and seeing that my allies were arriving soon, I would also try to preserve the ships as much as possible. At this time, retracting the cruiser and destroyer group not only preserves a mobile force but also retains combat power. Heh heh.”

Zhang Pengcheng’s cold laugh sent chills down the spines of the staff officers; a battleship detour, separating the enemy, led to such profound changes, calculating to such depths, was indeed the limit.

Everyone remained silent, listening to Zhang Pengcheng continue his retrospective narration: ”At this time, the conditions for executing the second battle plan were already mature. A distress signal was enough to chill the hearts of the A1 fleet. Of course, they wouldn’t continue infinitely toward our so-called reinforcements fleet along S21, S22, and S23. They could only move back and forth between the S22 and S21 space areas! And here, it’s exactly the staying area Major General Fang Xiang set for them in command!”

”Only in this area, do they have sufficient distance from our two-wing battleship group and the cruiser and destroyer group in front. This distance is the final key to the battle. When their fighter units retreated, the battleship formed a circular defensive formation, and the cruiser and destroyer also retreated to the S21 space area; their failure was already doomed. By this time, their focus was still on themselves, unknowingly, we already had enough space and time to complete our Luu Zecheng Formation!”

”Look........” Zhang Pengcheng raised the wine glass on the command table, leisurely watched the chaotic Suss Fleet on the main screen, and said, ”From this ending, we can see so clearly the whole process of this trap from setup to completion. Such a calculation is more than enough to be used as a textbook case. All the analysis comes as hindsight.....”

Taking a sip of wine, Zhang Pengcheng said with a bitter smile: ”To be able to set up the Luu Zecheng Formation under the enemy’s eyelids, and interpret these steps as such, must be by a swindler. Every step provides the opponent with excuses and reasons to make mistakes! Seemingly perplexing, it’s actually deadly accurate. Such tactical groundwork, we also consider ourselves experts, but to be able to circle around so many turns and still let the enemy follow step by step, and obtain precise execution, is truly a terrifying thing.”

”Now.......” Zhang Pengcheng drained the wine in his glass: ”I doubt if the A1 fleet has the courage to continue fighting. You must know, behind them, we still have an ’A-level fleet’!”
