Counterfeit Hero

In Zhang Pengcheng’s thirty-year commanding career, he had never used such a fleet formation. Originally, he thought he would never in his life have to use such a cruel formation.

Unexpectedly, the first time he used it, it was under circumstances where he was betrayed by the allies he had intended to assist!

At that time, his mind was nearly blank. All orders were given almost instinctively.

”Engines at full output, prioritize opening the energy shield.”

”All ships activate automatic damage control system in emergency mode and seal off damaged areas.”

”Radar, determine the distance, number, and types of enemy ships.”

”Mothership deploy fighters in hidden standby, first destroyer squadron to the left, second squadron to the right, adjust angles, prepare for dual-wing extension.”

”Start electronic interference at full power.”

One by one, commands echoed through the command system on every Chuckna warship.

Zhang Pengcheng’s voice helped the suddenly attacked Chuckna 1201 Fleet soldiers maintain the greatest degree of calmness amidst chaos.

Though they were chaotic, they remained at their posts, extinguishing fires, starting engines, adjusting gun turret angles, rushing to repair damaged parts of the ships... or using the weak steering propulsion to desperately position their ships between the Suss Fleet’s volley fire and the comrades behind them!

The innate power within the Chuckna people always seems to erupt only in desperate situations!

And when this power erupts, no one can stop it!

Zhang Pengcheng ground his teeth, firmly holding his ground. Achieving the position of Commander of the Chuckna 12th Group Fleet, ranking 12th among sixty Admirals of Chuckna, was through sheer determination, not through flattery!

Everyone knew that among Chuckna Admirals, Zhang Pengcheng was not the wisest or the most cunning, nor the bravest or most fierce, but unquestionably the most determined and tenacious!

Finally, before the Suss adjusted their formation for a second volley, the fleet deployed energy shields. The formation also started to adjust due to the full activation of the propulsion.

Only after sitting back in the command chair did all the sounds return to Zhang Pengcheng’s ears.

Outside the porthole, Chuckna warships, with energy shields deployed, began to counterattack the Suss Fleet under the command of the Combat Department and coordination from the SkyNet System. Fighters, already released earlier, rose from behind concealed warships, confronting the oncoming Suss fighters in an electrical storm.

However, outside the porthole, there were more remains of sacrificed Chuckna warships floating and rolling.

A large piece of debris with the number C12-01-2011 painted on it drifted by the porthole, moving further away.

Tears burst from Zhang Pengcheng’s eyes.

That was the code of the Redemption-class Battleship Endeavor. Ship Captain Major General Huitt was Zhang Pengcheng’s old classmate and also the commander of the 1201 Fleet battleship squadron. Scenes from their past still played clearly in his mind — their smiles and expressions so vivid — but he was now lost with the disintegration of the Endeavor, with no remains left.

The North Down Bend Catastrophe-class Cruiser, the Chris Falcon-class Destroyer, the Alice Falcon-class Destroyer... Zhang Pengcheng tried hard to identify the ship represented by the debris floating outside the window. They were not lifeless steel, but vibrant lives!

And yet, they died due to Sammon’s despicable betrayal!

Zhang Pengcheng grabbed the microphone.

Within each Chuckna warship, rotating turrets quickly turned under the soldiers’ control, spewing angry flames. In the torpedo room, warriors tensely operated auto-loaders, loading torpedoes with pre-set programs. In the power cabin, mechanics were urgently repairing engines, becoming soaked with sprayed liquefied energy. In the bridge control room, ship captains quickly issued commands, and the primary helmsman gritted his teeth while steering, maneuvering the warship through meteor-shower-like energy cannon light clusters...

Zhang Pengcheng’s voice echoed in every corner of each warship.

”In an instant, we lost thirty percent of our warships! We’ve lost over ten thousand comrades...”

Chuckna soldiers did not stop; they continued their duties, repairing, calculating, launching torpedoes, firing... Yet each one of them was all ears.

Zhang Pengcheng may not be a great general. However, everyone in the 12th Group Fleet trusted him!

They trusted him completely!

”I used the Zipper Formation, and this decision put our comrades in front of us, using their bodies to buy us time. They could have refused this decision. But they didn’t. They used the warships’ limited steering propulsion as power to sacrifice their lives for us.”

In the power cabin, the mechanics blocked leaks in conduits. A middle-aged mechanic covered his face with a towel, unsure whether he was wiping off the liquefied energy or wiping away tears. All that could be seen was his trembling shoulders.

”Chuckna people do not fear war! Since we set foot on Chuckna Planet, since we united into the Chuckna Nation, we have never been conquered. Be it by force or culture! Our warriors are the finest in this universe! Although we have endured too many peaceful years, and despite our awe-inspiring ancestors having aged and passed away, today, the comrades before us have proven it all for us.”

”Left rudder 120 marks!” A Chuckna Destroyer captain screamed at the approaching Suss Fleet, ”Go in, go in! Fire, fire!”

”I am proud of them!”

”I am proud of them!” In the rotating turret, a young warrior fiercely pressed the trigger button on the joystick, firing incessant energy cannon light bolts at the darting Suss fighters and enemy warships. His face was covered in tears, and before him in the starlit sky, a Chuckna Cruiser’s wreck had extinguished its flames and, like a large piece of useless scrap iron, tumbled into the depths of the universe. On it was this young warrior’s brother!

”Chuckna warriors always shed blood, not tears! But today...” Zhang Pengcheng wailed in the broadcast.

”Damn it, aim that one well for me!” the loader roared at the gunner in the torpedo room.

”I’ve already hit three ships! How the hell are you still not satisfied?!” the gunner’s neck veins bulged.

The faces of the two rooster-like warriors were also full of streaming tears.

”We don’t care if tears symbolize weakness! When we cry, we’ll let our enemies know we will become even more terrifying... whether they are Suss people or the traitors who sold us out!”

Zhang Pengcheng wiped his tears: ”An hour ago, I told people that when I returned to Mars, I’d beat up Sammon once. But now, I’ve changed my mind. I will personally take down that bastard! But before that, what we must do is go back! Go back alive!”

”Alright, that’s all I have to say. Let’s continue the fight. Finally...” Zhang Pengcheng held the microphone and calmly said, ”Long live Chuckna.”

”Long live Chuckna!”

Wild shouts, like thunder, exploded in every corner of every ship, resounding in every nook and cranny!

Zhang Pengcheng listened to this sound and opened a message sent from the bandit army on the command platform.

”Bro... I’m hitting the Suss Transport Fleet, tell me, what position do you want to use?”
