Counterfeit Hero

The capture of the [Pars] increased the B15 Fleet’s losses by eight percent swiftly.

”General, we have a minute and a half left until reaching the Oasis Airspace,” Sammon’s adjutant said anxiously, ”We must find a way to shake off the Suss Fleet. They’re too tight on us. Once we enter the Oasis Airspace, we can only get less than three thousand kilometers of separation, no way to turn, let alone perform a warp.”

Sammon rapidly simulated options on the computer for actions the fleet could take upon reaching the Oasis Airspace....

But no matter how he simulated, there was no way to escape the current predicament. The plans in his mind were dismissed one by one, and the combat department’s staff produced battle plans every five minutes, all of which were nonsense!

”How can we escape?!” Sammon’s nose was already oozing sweat. The situation had exceeded his ability to control, making him feel powerless.

”We can’t keep running like this,” a staff member suddenly stood up nervously, ”We’ve lost nearly thirty percent of our troops. And the main cannon on the ship’s bow hasn’t fired a single shot! General, turn back and fight. In the obstruction zone, even if we endure some losses, we can still have a terrain advantage and block them, just wait for the Chuckna Fleet........

Sammon looked coldly at the staff member who almost pointed his finger and scolded him. The fleet was at the brink of disintegration, in life and death. The insurmountable chasm can be crossed, let alone the mere up and down distinction. The losses suffered by the B15 Fleet, the current predicament, and the bleak outlook made this staff member forget his own identity.

Sammon looked around, and the staff avoided his eyes. He distinctly saw a trace of humiliation and disdain in their eyes. No one could accept the fact of being consumed by the enemy during an escape. They were Feiyang Soldiers, proud Feiyang Soldiers. For many years, this army they served with the Double-headed Griffin flag, roamed the universe, inducing shudders and submission from all enemies.

Suddenly, Sammon laughed; he very much wanted to slap the staff member’s face and tell him, this is war, interstellar war!

In this war, Feiyang is not invincible!

Why does Hastings use various methods to force other countries and the Western Alliance into a desperate fight, why does Feiyang only send two mixed group fleets to the Southeast Star Domain war, ultimately watching it be lost, why does Carolina, forming the Mars Front Army, only get an Armored Division and a B-grade fleet as the base?

There’s only one reason—Feiyang is not as strong as people imagine.

But Sammon knew he couldn’t take action.

Aside from those grandiose reasons, the biggest culprit for the current situation is himself.

If at the start, he hadn’t been so gain-oriented, B15 Fleet could have clashed fiercely with the Suss Fleet. A B-grade fleet defeating an A-grade fleet is not an impossibility.

But because of a small desire for merit, he became hesitant and unconfident. From the moment he knew of the Suss Fleet’s existence, he stood not from the soldier’s standpoint but from the thinking of escape. The instant he saw the Suss Fleet appear, he almost instinctively ordered the retreat. It’s normal for these staff members to not accept this humiliating defeat.

Everything should undergo the baptism of war, including selfishness, greed, cowardice, jealousy, malice, stupidity, and inferiority. Sammon thought while laughing, if all these negative factors don’t become noble because of the baptism of war, then they should become more despicable!

He could not look back, only continue to move forward, in his name, in the name of the Feiyang Republic.

Sammon stared at the interstellar map, at the coordinate Zhang Pengcheng mentioned, then turned around and looked at everyone around him.

”This is a prolonged war; this route is too important for the Feiyang Republic. You have more important missions to complete, rather than losing your life here lightly. Our fleet is a flag planted here by Feiyang. Before more of our fleets pour into here, we cannot fall!”

Sammon displayed a noble and sacred smile: ”Even if I go to hell, even if I stink for eternity, I will fulfill my mission! The Chuckna people made a wrong judgment, and I will lead you out of this trap!”

Twenty-nine Bandit Army warships hidden in the vast universe, hovered silently.

To hide oneself in this deep, endless universe, seemingly merged with it, is an exquisite experience for the soldiers onboard these warships.

The windows of the warships were closed. To prevent any light sources from interfering with the optical deflection device, the energy shield and ion propulsors were also shut off. The warships relied solely on the onboard old-style jet steering propulsion to adjust the ship’s posture.

From the footage captured by the electronics cameras spaced around the ships, it shows all around as completely empty. Even knowing the surrounding Bandit Army Warships were nearby, gazing into the boundless starry sky could still make one lose focus......Are those guys still here? Could they really have vanished?

Behind is the vast Smoke Lake Nebula.

The nebula reflected the distant Constant Star’s light. Countless asteroids of various sizes floated, revolved, and moved in this dust gas field. They obscured all vision. No one knew what was happening in the vast internal airspace of this nebula, covered under the calm surface of Smoke Lake, was another stormy scene hidden below.

”Has the number three Reconnaissance Ship reached the Oasis Airspace yet?” Fatty asked uneasily while playing a pixel match game with beauties on the computer. On the upper part of the screen is a route map, with the green marker representing the Suss Transport Fleet gradually proceeding along the expected route, moving towards the obstacle area to the passage exit of the 1851 Star System.

”Should be arriving soon,” said Fang Xiang, sitting next to Fatty, watching him nimbly connect dots on the beauty image on the screen, dazzled by his quick hand actions, fascinated.

In the ship, some staff were chatting, some simulating a contest, and some dozing off. Everyone was in boredom, tacitly avoiding mentioning the battle taking place in the Smoke Lake Nebula.

”How do you do it?” Watching Fatty carelessly finishing the last couple of photos, Fang Xiang couldn’t hold back any longer. In her view, these photos, depicting similar background, attire, visage, complexion, hairstyle, are exceptionally difficult to distinguish. But Fatty, miraculously, could rapidly find matching photos without pause, which seems too magical.

”What?” Fatty mused, ”This?”

”Yes!” Fang Xiang nodded, ”These photos are overwhelming just to look at, yet you can clear it so quickly. Is there some trick?”

”Secret!” Fatty continued with his usual death-defying logic, ”Not gonna tell you!”

”You....” Fang Xiang glared at Fatty; he was just an infuriating bastard, naturally making people angry.

”What’s the secret....” Carl sneered from the side, saying to Fang Xiang, ”This guy looks at proportions!”

Fang Xiang was taken aback, her face suddenly flushed, stammering, ”Proportions.... they’re also alike.”

”He imagines them unclothed by looking! Actual dimensions precise to the millimeter.....” Carl expressed indignantly, ”Damn it, I can’t learn it!”

Fang Xiang turned her head, noticed Fatty’s gaze roaming over her body.

”Pervert.... go die!”

Fang Xiang, with goosebumps all over, stomped her high heel onto Fatty’s foot.

”Innocent.....”

”General, the Suss Transport Fleet has passed the third segment end line of the obstacle area, one thousand kilometers distance, expected time to reach the ambush zone in three minutes,” reported the intelligence liaison officer from the control panel amidst Fatty’s wails.

”General, there was a signal from the number three Reconnaissance Ship.....” another staff member’s reluctantly trembling voice followed: ”Sir, take a look...”

Fatty and Fang Xiang quickly looked at the command platform’s flashing shared image from the Reconnaissance Ship.

Upon seeing the image, Fatty felt a surge of rage overwhelming from deep down, mixed with blood furiously rushing to the brain—on the screen, the Feiyang Fleet was preparing for a warp, behind them was the surging Suss Fleet, and between them and the Suss Fleet was the just-warped Chuckna 1201 Fleet!

Sammon..... you damned bastard!
