Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 45: Chapter 43: Deploying City Gate on the Battlefield

When the black-robed figure stepped out, Gu Xi’s first reaction was to think this guy might be a cultist.

Before the black-robed figure could say a second word, Gu Xi raised his hand and sent three bone spikes flying in that direction.

However, before the three bone spikes reached the black-robed figure, two shadowy figures appeared beside him, blocking the attack.

Then, the black-robed figure smirked sinisterly, ”I was thinking of sparing your life, but now you’re asking for it. Attack.”

Gu Xi took a step back, watching the two shadowy figures approaching him, a trace of disdain flashing in his eyes.

”Who gave you the courage to think you could outnumber a necromancer?”

Without seeing Gu Xi make any move, a stone door appeared behind him, and Gu Xi’s retreat landed him right in the center of the doorway.

The black-robed figure hadn’t yet realized what was happening when almost forty skeleton soldiers burst forth from the door.

The skeleton soldiers of Combat Squad 3 charged to the front, quickly surrounding Gu Xi and raising their shields to protect him.

Then, the skeleton soldiers of Combat Squad 1 surged forward, wielding their two-handed swords, slashing at the shadowy figures regardless of who they were.

The black-robed figure hadn’t expected Gu Xi to deploy undead on the battlefield in this manner.

He initially thought he had encountered an undead mage without any undead by his side and hoped to take advantage, but he didn’t expect this outcome.

The black-robed figure waved his hand, and two more dark shadows appeared at his feet, transforming into shadowy figures that charged forward swiftly.

Meanwhile, the black-robed figure retreated at an even faster speed, seemingly planning to leave.

But just as the black-robed figure took a step back, he suddenly felt a chill behind him.

His movements visibly slowed.

A layer of frost even appeared on his arm.

The black-robed figure was experienced; when faced with such a situation, he didn’t turn around to see what was happening behind him. Instead, he dove forward, rolling his body a distance away.

However, Luna, who appeared behind the black-robed figure, had no intention of letting him go. As the black-robed figure rolled forward, Luna opened her mouth and let out a scream.

”Ah~”

The power of Luna’s Banshee Wail was considerable, almost unfolding right at the black-robed figure’s ear. He was struck instantly by it as he attempted to roll forward and regain his footing, feeling a sharp pain in his head.

His eyes turned red, a sweet taste filled his mouth, and he lost all his strength.

At that moment, Gu Xi’s Combat Squad 2 charged forward; these spear-wielding skeleton soldiers completely ignored the shadowy figures released by the black-robed figure and thrust their spears at him.

Combat Squad 2 contained the most skeleton soldiers, and as they attacked, the black-robed figure’s life quickly plummeted to the bottom.

The black-robed figure attempted to salvage the situation, but just then, a skeleton soldier wielding a two-handed sword charged over, and with one swift motion, beheaded him.

[...]

As various kill messages flashed before Gu Xi, he realized what the black-robed figure was.

He was indeed a cultist and had reached Level 5.

Most importantly, Gu Xi noticed the shadowy figures he released turned out to be deceitful shadows from Yalidov.

And they were quite powerful.

Considering this, and what the black-robed figure said when he first appeared, a thought crossed Gu Xi’s mind.

The disaster souls from before, could they have been collected by the cultists to use for the evil god imprisoned in Yalidov?

It seems that in Victoria City, there is a considerable presence of such cultists.

It’s truly difficult to guard against them.

And at this moment, with the black-robed figure’s death, the space he had supported naturally collapsed on the spot, and the space that was originally the size of half a football field began to retract rapidly.

The city gate that Gu Xi had placed on the battlefield was also being compressed.

Seeing this situation, Gu Xi didn’t care about anything else, ”You guys retreat first.”

Luna nodded, glanced back at the skeleton soldiers, and a few quickly stepped forward, lifting the black-robed figure’s corpse and entering the gate of the City of Death.

Taking advantage of the last chance, Luna quickly began telling Gu Xi about the events that occurred in Yalidov City during his absence.

”My lord, during this time, Yalidov has been very safe. We’ve dismantled some of the useless buildings in the city and collected a lot of stone and wood.

We’ve been waiting for negative energy points, and just as we were on our way here, we started constructing the core building, the tavern.

Apart from the resources invested in construction, we have enough negative energy points to summon twenty skeleton soldiers.”

Gu Xi had already noticed Luna replenishing the skeleton soldiers.

After all, he could see the change in the number of skeleton soldiers in his three combat squads.

But Luna choosing to build a tavern instead of a warehouse had surprised Gu Xi a bit.

”Didn’t I tell you to build a warehouse? Why did you build a tavern?”

”My lord, there’s no rush for a warehouse now; the chests in front of the assembly hall can still hold more, but have you considered what you’ll eat when you return to Yalidov without a tavern?”

With Luna’s explanation, Gu Xi understood her reasoning.

He was an undead mage, but he wasn’t undead. He still needed to eat.

Without a tavern, he couldn’t eat anything in Yalidov. At best, he could heat some water over a fire.

Within a few days, Gu Xi would become undead himself.

So, compared to a warehouse for storing supplies, a tavern was indeed what Gu Xi needed most at the moment.

”Alright, I trust you with the matters in Yalidov. Once the core building is completed, prioritize constructing the city wall. I’ll figure out the other buildings later.”

Luna nodded affirmatively and quickly entered the open city gate.

As the city gate dissipated behind Gu Xi, the carriage finally returned to its original size.

At this time, the service attendant, who had been watching from the side, cautiously approached.

”Master Mage, what was that just now...”
