Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 42: Chapter 40: Accidents Happen One After Another

Dong! Dong! Dong!

The response from Westminster Cathedral was swift.

The chaos was not large, but it was crucial.

Upon seeing the cultists they had long been guarding against appear, the Westminster Cathedral forces decisively released their well-prepared teams.

The holy knights, clad in heavy armor, split into eight teams, holding swords and shields as they marched into the alleyways near the large square.

At the same time, as the bells of Westminster Cathedral rang, hymns echoed from within the cathedral.

A pure light of positive energy, centered on Westminster, swept back and forth around the area.

When the light of positive energy fell upon Gu Xi, he felt as though every cell in his body was about to ignite, and every inch of his skin was burning hot.

Even the temperature of his blood rose significantly, and his face turned bright red, as if he had consumed too much alcohol.

Gu Xi understood that this was a manifestation of positive energy stimulating vitality.

But the sensation was truly uncomfortable.

Gu Xi had to retreat backward again and again, unwilling to be affected by this positive energy light.

At that moment, the team of holy knights rushed into the alley, holding up square shields nearly as tall as themselves, pressing down on any unfamiliar person they encountered.

Gu Xi wanted to retreat, but he was immediately pinned between two square shields.

The bone shield on his body was directly crushed by the square shields, and two heavy longswords were raised high.

”Don’t move, if you move even a bit, the brothers will take action.”

”What the hell are you doing?”

Gu Xi was both angry and helpless.

He wasn’t involved in this matter at all, alright?

But the two holy knights ignored Gu Xi, as they had received orders when they took action.

They couldn’t determine who was good or bad.

So they decided to control everyone who wasn’t from Westminster Cathedral first.

If anyone dared to resist, they would strike first before considering whether the person was an enemy.

Gu Xi was clearly an undead mage, and these two holy knights were novices, their combat power bolstered only by the hymns of Westminster Cathedral.

Normally, they hadn’t even reached the level of wielding holy light.

Currently, they had Gu Xi pressed against the wall, but inwardly they were nervous, holding longswords overhead, ready to strike at any moment.

Seeing the tension in the eyes of the two holy knights, Gu Xi calmed down instead.

”Don’t be nervous, I’m not the enemy. I won’t move, so you shouldn’t either!”

As soon as Gu Xi spoke, an explosion sounded from behind the two holy knights.

Their hands shook, and the longswords swung towards Gu Xi.

Gu Xi ducked his head, ”Be careful.”

Fortunately, the longswords struck the wall behind Gu Xi, otherwise, they could have caused serious injury.

But this did genuinely scare Gu Xi. He hadn’t resisted before because he didn’t have any conflict with the Westminster Cathedral forces, and he couldn’t see the situation clearly yet, so he opted for caution.

But he wasn’t one to take a beating without retaliating.

”Enough, if this continues, I’ll fight back.”

The two holy knights didn’t respond to Gu Xi’s words and didn’t even pull out the longswords wedged into the wall.

This situation surprised Gu Xi, and he quickly looked at their faces, finding their faces twisting continuously, with blood vessels around their eyes on the verge of bursting.

Gu Xi tried to nudge the two holy knights, and with a push, they fell to the ground.

Gu Xi hurried to catch them, but what unfolded before his eyes shocked him.

From where the explosion had just occurred, a vine root, as thick as a person, emerged from the ground.

Atop the root was a trumpet-shaped pale pink flower, with red threads continuously spewing from its center.

Everyone nearby was entangled in these threads, clearly controlled by the roots.

Gu Xi’s luck was quite good; he was pressed against the wall by the holy knights, so the threads hadn’t yet reached him.

This saved him from a calamity.

But Gu Xi knew he couldn’t just stand idly by.

Without the protection of the holy knights, if he got entangled in the threads, he wouldn’t be able to withstand it.

So, he surveyed the battlefield and spotted the cultist he’d killed earlier.

The body was a distance away from the root, but the situation seemed manageable.

A thought crossed Gu Xi’s mind, and he pointed at the corpse.

”Secondary Corpse Burst!”

As an explosion erupted, the corpse detonated on site.

Commoners who fell due to the blood-red threads were caught in the blast.

Gu Xi raised his hand, ”Bone Spike!”

Three bone spikes flew out, striking three commoners without armor.

[Defeated Cultist (Level 1), gained 11 experience points.]

[Defeated Holy Oil Faithful (Level 2), gained 27 experience points.]

Gu Xi didn’t mind killing the wrong people; given the circumstances, he couldn’t bother about much, he needed a way to break the stalemate.

He hadn’t attacked the holy knights, as a favor to Hart.

”Soul Summoning Skill!”

[You successfully used Soul Summoning Skill, summoned a Skeleton (Level 0), gained 1 Soul Summoning Skill experience point.]

[You successfully used Soul Summoning Skill, summoned a Skeleton (Level 0), gained 1 Soul Summoning Skill experience point.]

[You failed to use Soul Summoning Skill, gained 1 Soul Summoning Skill experience point.]

”Damn it!”

Gu Xi muttered casually.

The newly summoned skeletons were all Level 0, indicating that gaining a Death City hadn’t changed this aspect.

Then Gu Xi refocused, waved his hand, ”Go, pluck that flower for me.”

Following Gu Xi’s command, the two skeletons dashed toward the root.

As the skeletons approached, the root noticed the situation and the pale pink flower at its top folded up.

Seeing this response from the root, Gu Xi quickly dragged the fallen holy knight up.

Gu Xi’s quick reaction was correct, for just as he lifted the holy knight, the flower snapped open like a spring, releasing a mass of blood-red threads.

These threads spread like a net towards Gu Xi.

If Gu Xi hadn’t preemptively used the holy knight as a shield, he would surely have been ensnared by the red threads.

After blocking this attack, Gu Xi shoved the holy knight to the ground and began to run.

The flower still attempted to assault Gu Xi, but the two skeletons had already reached the root, and per Gu Xi’s order, they decisively grabbed the flower and tugged hard, plucking the flower head the size of a human head off.
