Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 6: Chapter 4: Underground Chamber

Just as he turned the corner, Gu Xi raised his dagger, ready to throw it.

But at that moment, Gu Xi paused.

He rushed over thinking the skeletons were being obstructed by the cultists and wanted to come to the rescue.

But what he saw in front of him was completely unexpected.

At the corridor’s corner, there was a rather large underground space.

The entire space was as big as seven or eight football fields. Looking up, he couldn’t even see the ceiling, only the vines hanging down from above.

At the far end of the underground space stood a huge abandoned stone gate, surrounded by a group of black robe cultists who, like statues, stood around the gate. Even with the battle taking place, they showed little reaction.

In the dark underground space, their motionless appearance was like perfectly arranged terracotta soldiers.

Anyone who saw such a scene in the darkness would feel chills all over their body.

But that wasn’t the most important thing.

Gu Xi could clearly hear the breathing of those black robe cultists, yet they didn’t even turn their heads, all facing the abandoned stone gate motionlessly like statues.

Even when the skeletons appeared with weapons, they didn’t react, unless a weapon struck them first, they would then draw their weapons to retaliate.

Because of this, the four skeletons under Gu Xi’s command had already charged forward.

This situation gave Gu Xi pause, but then he laughed.

This was good news, if they only woke up when struck, then he would make sure none of them woke up.

Gu Xi raised his curved saber and slashed at one of the black robe cultists beside him.

When Gu Xi struck down, it felt like he was chopping a piece of rotten wood, not at all like hitting a person.

Luna appeared behind the black robe cultist, and the blue tentacles from the copper mirror she held in her arms touched the cultist’s back.

The black robe cultist, who had been planning to draw a weapon to counterattack after being cut by Gu Xi, was completely covered in frost when touched by Luna, losing all normal movement.

Gu Xi reversed his grip and slashed again, chopping off the black robe cultist’s head on the spot.

With a ding, a message popped up in front of Gu Xi.

[Killed an Elite Cultist (Level 2), gained 19 experience points, and due to the teamwork kill, Contracted Undead obtained 16 experience points.]

After glancing at the message, Gu Xi’s eyes brightened.

Seeing so many motionless black robe cultists here, Gu Xi felt extremely lucky.

This truly is a blessing in disguise.

Having just escaped, he now stumbled upon such a treasure trove for farming experience; it’s an opportunity to level up that can’t be wasted.

”Luna!”

Luna immediately understood Gu Xi’s intention. Without needing further orders, she extended the Touch of Frost forward, reaching the nearby black robe cultists.

Meanwhile, Gu Xi swung his curved saber at the cultist’s neck.

The unlucky cultist didn’t even get a chance to react and was killed under Gu Xi’s saber.

[Killed an Elite Cultist (Level 2), gained 17 experience points, and due to the teamwork kill, Contracted Undead obtained 13 experience points.]

Once two cultists were killed, Gu Xi knew this was working; he and Luna quickly moved on to other nearby black robe cultists.

Just as Gu Xi and Luna prepared to slaughter more, another group of black robe individuals emerged from the nearby passage.

There were twelve in total, divided into four groups, each consisting of two black robe cultists carrying an immobile black robe person.

The passage they appeared from was close to where Gu Xi had entered, and upon stepping into this underground space, they spotted Gu Xi, who was about to kill.

”Who’s there? Heretic infiltration!”

Upon seeing Gu Xi, they shouted and drew their weapons, charging up while dropping the carried black robe people to the ground, unmoving.

With their shout, Gu Xi noticed the nearby black robe cultists began turning their heads toward him.

”Retreat!”

Gu Xi instantly decided, bent down, and dragged a black robe cultist’s corpse, retreating to the passage where he had entered.

Luna closely followed, carrying the copper mirror and hovering in front of Gu Xi.

The skeletons that had gone too far to fight also received Gu Xi’s command, abandoning their targets and rushing back toward Gu Xi.

But those skeletons were quickly surrounded by mobilized black robe cultists, and in just a few moves, all four skeletons were shattered to pieces.

After dispatching the skeletons, more and more black robe cultists turned their gaze toward Gu Xi.

At this time, Gu Xi held his curved saber tightly while closely watching the actions of those black robe cultists.

There were too many.

If they remained motionless like before, Gu Xi could have taken the time to turn them into experience.

Now, escaping is necessary.

Gu Xi signaled to Luna with a glance, and Luna took a deep breath toward the black robe cultists rushing from outside.

”Ah~~~~”

Banshee Wail activated.

Over a dozen black robe cultists charging forward grabbed their heads and squatted on the ground simultaneously.

Gu Xi took the opportunity to kick the corpse he had just dragged to the cultists’ side.

”Secondary Corpse Burst!”

Boom!

The explosion from the Corpse Burst instantly killed six black robe cultists on the spot.

[Killed a Cultist (Level 1), gained 9 experience points, and due to the teamwork kill, Contracted Undead obtained 6 experience points.]

[Killed an Elite Cultist (Level 2), gained 8 experience points, and due to the teamwork kill, Contracted Undead obtained 19 experience points.]

[Killed a Cultist (Level 2), gained 11 experience points, and due to the teamwork kill, Contracted Undead obtained 10 experience points.]

[...]

However, new black robe cultists soon charged over after the Corpse Burst.

Stepping over the corpses of their exploded comrades, they brandished their weapons and charged toward Gu Xi.

Gu Xi wanted to stall, but there was no time for such delays. He pointed at the corpse on the ground, initiating another Secondary Corpse Burst.

As the Corpse Burst activated, Luna also launched another Banshee Wail.

The simultaneous explosions of both spells killed yet another batch of black robe cultists.

[Killed a Cultist (Level 2), gained 13 experience points, and due to the teamwork kill, Contracted Undead obtained 5 experience points.]

[Killed an Elite Cultist (Level 2), gained 16 experience points, and due to the teamwork kill, Contracted Undead obtained 11 experience points.]

[Killed a Cultist (Level 1), gained 4 experience points, and due to the teamwork kill, Contracted Undead obtained 3 experience points.]

[...]

But by then, all the black robe cultists in the underground space were active, swarming toward Gu Xi like walking corpses.

As the explosions of the Corpse Burst died down, twenty more black robe cultists filled the space left by the blasts.

Gu Xi glanced at his own Mana.

”Luna, five more Corpses Bursts, then use the Touch of Frost to freeze this area.”

Luna nodded, quickly preparing for the Banshee Wail.

Just as Gu Xi was about to point to a corpse at the black robe cultists’ feet, a voice came from behind him.

”Duck!”
