Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 38: Chapter 36: The Promise

”This can actually work.”

The waiter considered it seriously. If Gu Xi truly wanted to claim that this location was part of the Dammingwei District, he believed many would be willing to help Gu Xi complete this transaction.

After all, the problem with these ruins had been dragging on for many years, and no one could convince the others.

If the owner of these ruins managed to succeed with his plot, claiming this was part of Camden District, then every house owner nearby would make similar demands.

But if it wasn’t, the ruins are just at the end of Greenwich Street; after all, even Greenwich Street needs an end point.

So, this matter had been in constant dispute, and the waiter was well aware of this fact.

If Gu Xi could truly exchange for these ruins, it could solve the dispute between Dammingwei District and Camden District, and it was believed no one would object to this matter.

”If you truly want this place, I can help you make the exchange. In fact, this location, apart from not being part of Camden District, is otherwise no different from Camden District.

You see, other houses need to walk a few more steps before reaching there, but this location doesn’t even require a step out the door, and you’re already in Camden District.

If not for some people harbouring certain thoughts, this place would have been sold a long time ago.

If I were to make the decision, I wouldn’t buy it only to consider annexing it to Camden District; this can definitely be done.”

”Alright, I can write an authorization letter right now or something like that.”

Gu Xi said decisively. Such a good place shouldn’t be given up, after all, finding some useless place later wouldn’t make sense.

The waiter was also pleased to hear this, ”Sign another authorized agreement, and let me... let us, at the Destiny Compass Guild, take care of this matter. As for the time, three days; in three days, this land will be yours.”

Gu Xi nodded, three days wasn’t too long, and he had other matters to attend to in Victoria City; this three-day window would be perfect to handle those things.

After three days, presumably, the ruins would be in hand, and by placing the Anchor Point here, he could exit the game and go report back to his profession.

As Gu Xi was contemplating this matter, the waiter had already written the authorization letter and agreement in duplicate.

Gu Xi inspected it closely, finding it exactly as he requested, and saw no incomprehensible symbols or anything else.

Only then did Gu Xi sign the agreement and subsequently took out the Land Purchase Order.

The waiter took the Land Purchase Order, gave it a glance, and nodded affirmatively.

”Indeed, this is the first batch of the Land Purchase Order. Although so many years have passed, its legal validity remains, so don’t worry, I can sort everything out within three days.”

”Alright.” Gu Xi smiled happily, then he was about to mention where he’d be staying for the next three days, but as he was about to speak, he found himself unable to express his forthcoming destination.

Noticing Gu Xi’s uneasy expression, the waiter chuckled, ”Don’t worry, there’s no one we can’t find in Victoria City. I’ll come find you in three days.”

Seeing the waiter’s confident demeanor, Gu Xi nodded.

Once the waiter was far away, Gu Xi looked back at Greenwich Street, then turned and headed in another direction.

Gu Xi planned to find a place to stay first, as it was getting dark. Last time, Gu Xi had ventured into Victoria’s Graveyard at night, only to get ambushed.

Now, Gu Xi had no intention of getting caught again.

Gu Xi had no desire whatsoever to witness the night in Victoria City again.

He would rather find an empty tavern or a hotel to sit and enjoy the view, than be reckless in the middle of the night.

As for his plans, it was no big deal to wait until tomorrow to deal with them.

After all, those corpses had been moved long ago, a few more days wouldn’t make much difference.

Leaving Northumberland Avenue, Gu Xi realized he had somehow arrived near the Isis River again.

This time, however, he was on the opposite side of the Isis River, not quite the same as where he had fallen into the water before.

From here, Victoria Bridge over the Isis River was clearly visible.

Gu Xi planned to first find a riverside tavern to stay at, if there was a bed available, he’d find a place to sleep; if not, he’d sit and drink, eat something, and take care of his stomach.

Recently, he had been ridiculously hungry, and now he couldn’t even feel his stomach move.

Going back this time, it would take at least three to five months to regain his lost weight.

But just as Gu Xi looked up to find a tavern, he suddenly noticed a human head hanging under Victoria Bridge.

He didn’t know how long the head had been hanging there, nor what treatment it had undergone; the entire head had turned black, but the features and angry expression were still discernible.

Seeing this, Gu Xi couldn’t help but sigh. Who could this be, whose head had been suppressed by Britain under the bridge? Presumably, he must have done many things against Britain.

Looking in the direction of the head hanging from the bridge, Gu Xi spotted a fairly decent tavern.

The front door of this tavern was directly watched by the head hung at the bridge end.

Most people probably couldn’t stand such a situation, but there were always some abnormal ones.

So, the tavern did surprisingly decent business; at dusk, many people were already sitting outside the tavern drinking.

Gu Xi even noticed that among the patrons, some were secretly raising their cups to pay tribute to the head hanging beneath the bridge.

This situation made Gu Xi realize one thing: this tavern had connections.

In an environment like Victoria, this signified safety.

Gu Xi was finally done with the various thieves, spies, or other nocturnal professionals of Victoria City.

He had no desire to court any more trouble in the last few days.

Thus, Gu Xi walked boldly towards the tavern, pushed open the tavern door, and tossed a shilling coin to the bar.

”I want a place to stay for the night, do you have anything suitable?”

”A third-class room is one shilling for a night. If you add nine pennies, you’ll get breakfast in the morning. If you add another shilling, a pretty girl will sneak into your room at midnight and leave at dawn.”

”Just a quiet room will do for me.”

Gu Xi glanced at the waitresses on the first floor of the tavern, then decisively made his choice.

”Alright, your room is on the second floor, third room after going upstairs.”

The bartender didn’t try to persuade Gu Xi further, casually tossing a key towards him.

Grabbing the key, Gu Xi added, ”Do you have any wine and jerky? If so, prepare some for me and settle the bill later.”

”Sure, I’ll have it delivered to you in a while.”

The bartender glanced around and winked at Gu Xi, conveying a knowing expression.
