Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 31: Chapter 29: Treasure Chest and Upgrade

When Luna arrived, Gu Xi was still slowly walking through the sewer.

He was still puzzled that the combat hadn’t started yet; he hadn’t heard any notification of a kill.

Luna’s shout surprised Gu Xi a little, and his curiosity led him to follow Luna to see what was happening.

They had only walked about three hundred meters when Luna stopped at a spot, pointed to a crack in the sewer wall, and said.

”Sir, look here.”

Gu Xi approached the crack and glanced inside, discovering a skeletonized corpse with several linen pockets on its back.

Due to the sewer being quite dry, the skeleton was well-preserved, especially the linen pockets, which didn’t have that damp, sticky feel.

”What’s going on here?”

”Not quite sure,” Luna shook her head and said, ”The only thing I can determine is that this crack originally existed, but I don’t know how the corpse got inside.”

”Alright, I’ll handle this side, you go take care of the other end of the sewer.”

As Gu Xi spoke, he retrieved a complete soul.

Luna immediately understood Gu Xi’s intent and didn’t say anything, drifting toward the other end of the sewer.

At that moment, Gu Xi placed the complete soul into the corpse.

”Soul Summoning Skill!”

[You failed to use the Soul Summoning Skill, gaining 1 point of experience in the Soul Summoning Skill.]

As the notification sounded, the skeleton pinned in the crack exploded on the spot, scattering bone fragments everywhere, leaving only the linen bag behind.

Gu Xi, somewhat helpless, could only use the bone-breaking wooden rod to fish out the linen bag from the crack with difficulty.

[You picked up Joseph’s backpack, do you wish to open it?]

”Open it!”

[You obtained ancient coins, 1 pound 3 shillings 3 pence.]

[You obtained shriveled bread (gray) * 1]

[Shriveled bread (gray): Junk, inedible food, can be exchanged for 1 pence.]

[You obtained Land Purchase Order (white) * 1]

[Land Purchase Order (white): A Victoria City Land Purchase Order issued in 1777, recording that Joseph’s farm outside the city was forcibly requisitioned. He can use this Land Purchase Order to exchange for a piece of land not exceeding 300 square meters to build a house in Camden District, Victoria City, and no one is allowed to obstruct.]

[You obtained Furnace Stone (green) * 1]

[Furnace Stone (green): A stone brought from beside the fireplace, containing a sense of longing for one’s hometown as well as some peculiar power.]

Looking at what poured out from the linen pocket, Gu Xi remained silent.

He speculated that it might be a farmer from 1877 who sold his farm and came to seek a living in Victoria City, but he wanted too much.

Unexpectedly, he actually thought the Land Purchase Order was useful and was eventually thrown into the sewer.

His luck, whether good or bad, is uncertain. He must have crawled in the sewer for a long time after being injured, dying in the oldest sewer of Victoria City.

Due to certain reasons, everything about him was replicated into the sewer here, finally getting stuck in the crack.

Now, these items belonged to Gu Xi.

Packing the items back into the linen bag, Gu Xi slung it over his back and headed towards the end of the sewer with the bone-breaking wooden rod in hand.

By this time, the battle at the end of the sewer had already begun.

After the previous combat, the battle here was actually simpler.

As Gu Xi walked forward, various notifications popped up continuously in front of him.

[Skeleton Soldier (Summoned Creature) kills Deceitful Mouse (Level 0), you gain 0 experience points, Combat Squad gains 0 experience points, Summoned Creature gains 1 experience point.]

[Skeleton Soldier (Summoned Creature) kills Deceitful Mouse (Level 1), you gain 1 experience point, Combat Squad gains 1 experience point, Summoned Creature gains 4 experience points.]

[Skeleton Soldier (Summoned Creature) kills Giant Deceitful Mouse (Level 2), you gain 1 experience point, Combat Squad gains 1 experience point, Summoned Creature gains 16 experience points.]

[...]

[Ding, total experience has reached the upgrade standard, please choose to upgrade or not.]

[...]

The sudden ding brightened Gu Xi’s eyes, had he reached the upgrade standard again?

Gu Xi quickly stopped and began checking the upgrade information.

[After upgrading, level rises to Level 3, life and mana are fully restored, all negative statuses are cleared, power +1, and you can choose one of the following three skills as a reward.]

[Bone Spike: Active Skill, upgradable, consumes 3 mana, releases a spike made of white bone, dealing 35-60 damage to enemies.]

[Land of Decay: Active Skill, upgradable, consumes 5 mana, turns the surrounding ten square meters of land into land of decay, provides negative energy for undead survival and rest, and deals 10 points of damage every 5 seconds to living creatures stepping on the land of decay.]

[Bone Prison: Active Skill, upgradable, consumes 5 mana, uses a corpse to form a bone prison with life value in a specified area (bone prison life is equal to corpse life).]

Looking at the three skills available this time, Gu Xi quickly made a judgment in his heart.

Among the three skills, Bone Prison is the most unique, used to trap enemies, but it competes with Corpse Burst for corpses.

Land of Decay is an auxiliary skill, but it has obvious targeted use.

Only Bone Spike is the most suitable for the current situation.

After all, previous battles made Gu Xi realize a disadvantageous circumstance where he would encounter situations without corpses, and without an offensive method, future battles were uncertain.

Upon making the decision, Gu Xi promptly said, ”Upgrade, select Bone Spike!”

The next moment, a ding sounded in Gu Xi’s ears.
