Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 21: Chapter 19: Growing Stronger with Every Battle

As the skeletons of Combat Squad 3 thrust their strike, the second wave of battle commenced.

Unlike the first wave of black phantoms, although the level of the second wave did not increase much, their movements were more agile.

When the skeletons launched their attack, the phantoms would actually dodge backward.

However, the number of these black phantoms was simply too large, so even if the first ones dodged, the long spear still stabbed the phantoms behind them.

And at this moment, the black phantoms that had previously dodged the spear attack suddenly jumped up, pouncing towards Combat Squad 3.

Seeing this situation, Gu Xi knew the plan had changed.

”Combat Squad 4, block them.”

Under Gu Xi’s command, the original plan of luring the enemy boss out to battle was immediately abandoned, and the defensive units were quickly arranged.

The skeletons of Combat Squad 4, upon hearing the command, charged forward with their shields raised.

Just then, the black phantoms leaped into the ranks of Combat Squad 3, their arms noticeably thickened, and directly slammed onto the skeletons.

The shields of Combat Squad 4 held firm, blocking the strike, but from their clash, it was evident the black phantoms had found the skeletons’ weakness.

Gu Xi’s skeletons, all were the most ordinary skeletons. Not to mention their levels hadn’t been raised, even if they had, the strengths and weaknesses of the skeletons couldn’t be changed.

As the Undead, skeletons have the advantage of not needing morale, and piercing attacks do little damage to them.

Conversely, blunt heavy strikes deal additional damage to skeletons.

With the first wave of attacks just concluded, the enemy had already discovered Gu Xi’s vulnerabilities and had immediately altered their combat tactics.

Such a situation left Gu Xi somewhat surprised.

Nonetheless, for the moment he could still hang on. After Combat Squad 4 charged forward, they quickly stabilized the battlefield, and Combat Squad 3, now without threats, also unleashed their full potential.

Positioned behind Combat Squad 4, they quickly thrust their spears forward, piercing the charging black phantoms.

Due to the narrowness of the street and the various barricades, only a few black phantoms could actually reach the frontline of the battle.

There were only thirty to forty black phantoms engaged in direct combat, while the rest wanted to join the fight but couldn’t squeeze through.

They could only wait for the phantoms in front to be taken down before charging forward.

So now, with Combat Squads 3 and 4 working together, they managed to stabilize the situation.

Gu Xi took this opportunity to observe the Deceitful Shadow Boss among the black phantoms.

Although the current situation was different from the plan, Gu Xi understood that the key lay with the enemy boss.

Taking advantage of the spare moment, Gu Xi observed the situation of the Deceitful Shadow Boss.

This Deceitful Shadow Boss, like the one from the first wave, was a gigantic existence.

However, his appearance was quite different from that of a normal human. He had grown three arms, with the right arm as thick as a normal human’s thigh, wielding a large wooden club.

The left arm had two arms of normal human arm thickness, but the fact that they had grown together was the biggest anomaly.

These two arms wielded a large knife in one hand and a war axe in the other. As he advanced, he swung them up and down, making it clear these weapons were not mere decorations.

When moving forward, the Deceitful Shadow Boss would sometimes ignore the phantoms around him, kicking aside some of the phantoms nearby.

But there were still too many phantoms in front of him, and with more phantoms swarming in from nearby, blocking the way, the Deceitful Shadow Boss couldn’t approach the frontline as quickly.

Yet Gu Xi couldn’t only focus on the current situation. He was well aware that if the Deceitful Shadow Boss got closer to the front, the battle would become unmanageable.

Gu Xi not only had to consider how to kill all the enemies, but he also needed to ensure he could retain most of his forces.

”Combat Squad 1, move out.”

Gu Xi waved his hand, giving the signal.

The Skeleton Boss of Combat Squad 1, upon seeing Gu Xi’s gesture, immediately led his subordinates from the rear towards the black phantom squad.

Just like in their previous battle, they utilized their stealth tactics to clear the enemies before them.

However, the black phantom squad had learned to counterattack. When Combat Squad 1 killed a batch of phantoms, their actions were noticed by other phantoms.

These phantoms halted and directly faced Combat Squad 1. It could be said that with the entry of Combat Squad 1 into the battlefield, the black phantoms’ formation was disrupted front and back.

This was an unexpected development for Gu Xi.

In this situation, Gu Xi decisively released Combat Squad 2.

”Prepare for combat and charge directly at the Deceitful Shadow Boss.”

As he gave the order, Gu Xi pointed toward the direction of the Deceitful Shadow Boss.

”Corpse Burst!”

Under Gu Xi’s command, three skeleton corpses stuffed into the barricades exploded.

The shockwave from the explosion, along with shattered furniture, smashed into the nearby black phantoms.

The Deceitful Shadow Boss, being at the center of the explosion, took the most damage as a large wardrobe directly smashed onto him, flipping him over due to its weight.

When the Deceitful Shadow Boss was about to get up from the ground, Combat Squad 2 arrived just in time.

At this moment, all members of Combat Squad 2 charged forward with two-handed longswords raised high.

They focused all their power into the swords, delivering a heavy strike as soon as they reached the Deceitful Shadow Boss.

During their approach, they had already locked onto the target, swinging their swords with full force upon reaching it.

The Deceitful Shadow Boss had three arms, but the explosion had just toppled him to the ground. A heavy wardrobe still pinned his left hand when Combat Squad 2 charged in. He was lowering his right hand’s club, intending to lift the wardrobe off.

It was arguably the weakest moment for the Deceitful Shadow Boss.

As numerous swords cut into him, he had no chance to dodge.

He took all the sword attacks forcefully.

Yet, given that the Deceitful Shadow Boss had a relatively high level, he wasn’t dead even after taking many hits. Instead, he used the opportunity to roll on the ground, attempting to stand up.

Gu Xi continually monitored the enemy’s reactions.

Seeing the Deceitful Shadow Boss roll onto a skeleton corpse, Gu Xi pointed to that spot.

”Corpse Burst!”

Bang!

The skeleton corpse exploded with a boom, blasting the rolling Deceitful Shadow Boss into the air.

Soon after, Gu Xi heard a ding in his ear.

[You have slain the Deceitful Shadow Boss (Level 3, Elite), gaining 83 experience points. Allied summoned creatures involved in the attack each receive 7 experience points.]
