Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 16: Chapter 14: The Dead City

Yalidov?

Victoria?

Gu Xi immediately reacted.

This should be the name of the exiled fake city, the complete opposite of Victoria City.

It seems as he had guessed, Luna is the spirit of this city.

As the city died, she also died, and happened to be attracted by Gu Xi’s Undead Contract, becoming his Contracted Undead.

If Gu Xi and the others hadn’t entered Yalidov, Luna might never have recalled her original identity in her entire life.

But they entered, and under Gu Xi’s guidance, Luna even found her birthplace, which made her remember everything.

At this moment, Luna opened her mouth slightly, with a hint of chill.

”Actually, my appearance is an accident.

I am the elf of this city, but I do not completely belong to this city.

In British legends, if you place a doll or puppet at the corner of a bed or under a table, over time, a house elf will appear. They clean the house and tend the hearth in exchange for necessary living supplies.

If you no longer want this elf, simply giving them a piece of clothing will allow them to leave on their own.

Because of this legend, households with children will always educate them from a young age not to casually throw dolls in the corners of beds or under tables.

If a doll is suddenly found at the corner of a bed or under a table, do not move it carelessly but wrap it in clothing before removing it.”

Listening to Luna recount a folk tale, Gu Xi was not in a hurry but listened attentively.

In his view, this was Luna fundamentally recounting her origin story.

”My situation was an accident. When James I was constructing Yalidov City, everything was required to be copied exactly, without any change whatsoever.

As it happened, during the measurement, this doll was accidentally thrown under the bed.”

Luna finished, indicating a certain spot under the bed.

At this point, Luna smiled again, ”The person measuring at that time must have been aware of the taboo and dressed the doll, but didn’t realize that it was just an accidentally dropped doll, not yet transformed into an elf.

Later, the little house was cleverly positioned. Look there.”

Luna pointed up to the ceiling.

Gu Xi looked up and found a crack there.

”This crack was originally part of the small building. When it rains, the rain would leak through here, but it never rained in Yalidov City. Every night, the moon would rise.

Every night at midnight, the moonlight would precisely shine on that mirror and reflect onto the bed’s underside, which was the doll’s location.

Over time, I appeared.

Thus, my name is Luna, which means moon or moon goddess.”

With a sigh, Luna continued, ”If there hadn’t been any further accidents, I might have just been the spirit of this small building, existing until the building was destroyed.

But you’ve noticed, the person who first made the measurements, due to the taboo, gave me an extra piece of clothing, and after this place was copied over, no one ever lived here, so I could temporarily leave the small building and wander elsewhere.

Usually, I would just run around the nearby streets, quickly returning when encountering those eerie shadows.

Anyway, those shadows don’t enter houses, so I don’t have to worry about my safety.

Being of the house elf series, entering other houses means that house is within my protection range.

So the range I can influence became larger until I took something out from the apartment building to the southeast.”

”Apartment building?” Gu Xi interrupted Luna for the first time.

”Yes, that apartment building, it seems to be number 10 on Tangning Street. It looks like a plain little apartment building, but after I entered, I seemed to be affected, falling into a long deep sleep before waking up.

After that, I had a deep understanding of this city, realizing that my appearance might be this city’s way of saving itself.”

At this point, Luna paused, ”It’s just a pity that the city eventually died.”

Upon hearing Luna’s story, Gu Xi also fell into silence, never expecting Luna’s story to be so winding and complex.

But he quickly gathered his thoughts, ”What do you intend to do now?”

Luna lifted her head, ”I want to save this city, even if just a little.”

Gu Xi stared into Luna’s hollow eyes without any hesitation, ”I’ll help you.”

Upon hearing Gu Xi’s assertive words, Luna grinned.

”Thank you, sir, but I currently lack the power to control the entire Yalidov City, I can only manage a third of the old district’s size.”

”How large is Yalidov City?”

Even knowing the urgency of the situation, Gu Xi still asked.

”2.9 square kilometers, excluding the walls, it’s just a few blocks.”

”Can’t we take it all?”

Upon hearing that it was less than three square kilometers, which is the size of three to four hundred football fields, Gu Xi wondered if they should take it all.

Luna looked at Gu Xi helplessly, ”Sir, what we need is control.”

”Alright, control, control takes precedence, you handle it.”

Luna nodded, speaking to Gu Xi: ”Sir, please step outside for a moment. I need to turn this small building into an assembly hall; transformation will require some time. Please hold off the enemy.”

”Rest assured.”

Gu Xi patted the curved saber at his waist, speaking earnestly.

At this moment, Gu Xi was quite excited, never expecting a chance to turn things around at this moment. He thought his first Contracted Undead was useless.

Unexpectedly, he found a treasure.

Then Luna floated before Gu Xi, pointing a finger at his arm, a cold current surged into Gu Xi’s body.

The mana that Gu Xi had just exhausted using the Soul Summoning Skill completely replenished.

Gu Xi looked at Luna in surprise, and Luna nodded slightly.

”Sir, this is all I can do for you now.”

Gu Xi waved his hand, drew his curved saber, and descended.

As Gu Xi left, Luna also began her work, placing the round mirror she initially held in the center of the room, then drawing something from the doll.

It was a pen Luna brought out from number 10 Tangning Street, which was also the reason she transformed from a house elf to a city elf.

Now Luna used this pen to draw several lines on the round mirror, which melted like ice and snow, finally merging into the room.

Just as Gu Xi exited the small building, before he had a clear view of the battle outside, a ’ding’ rang beside his ear.
