Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 5: Chapter 3: The Might of the Undead Mage

Having eliminated this batch of cultists, Gu Xi and Luna swiftly began their separate actions in perfect coordination.

Gu Xi used soul drawing, while Luna searched the corpses, handling the bodies with remarkable speed.

The only pity was that the cultists were all penniless, holding no good belongings, and the weapons uncovered had no attributes, with some being so poor they didn’t even have a dagger.

This situation made Gu Xi somewhat doubt whether he had been taken down by such destitute fools.

What had he done back then to allow himself to be defeated by such riffraff?

At that moment, Gu Xi’s arm felt a slight chill; turning his head, he found Luna by his side, gently patting his arm and staring at his face with her hollow eyes.

”Don’t overthink it, you’re not alone now.”

Gu Xi’s face twitched slightly.

Was he being comforted by his subordinate Undead?

Was his distress that obvious?

Gu Xi shook his head, dismissing the thought, and quickly approached the freshly handled bodies.

As Gu Xi moved past these bodies, his fingers continued to flick outward.

With each flick, a light group descended onto either complete or incomplete corpses.

”Soul Summoning Skill!”

”Secondary Bone Shield!”

”Soul Summoning Skill!”

As Gu Xi performed these actions, corresponding prompt tones incessantly echoed in his ears.

[You’ve successfully used Soul Summoning Skill, obtaining a Skeleton (Level 0), Soul Summoning Skill Experience 1 point.]

[Skeleton (Level 0, Summoned Creature): Experience (0/100) Attack 1, Defense 1, Life 10, Skills None]

[You’ve successfully used Soul Summoning Skill, obtaining a Skeleton (Level 0), Soul Summoning Skill Experience 1 point.]

[You’ve unsuccessfully used Soul Summoning Skill, gaining Soul Summoning Skill Experience 1 point.]

[You’ve successfully used Secondary Bone Shield, gaining Secondary Bone Shield Experience 1 point.]

[...]

Simultaneously, the bodies on the ground exploded, some turning into dried yellow skeletons standing behind Gu Xi, while others transformed into gray-white gas groups, swirling around Gu Xi and Luna.

”Alright, let’s go.”

Having disposed of all the bodies, Gu Xi then greeted Luna.

At that moment, Luna had just finished distributing weapons to the newly transformed skeletons.

The weapons they wielded were all items Luna had picked up earlier, consisting of some severed curved sabers or simply iron rods and wooden staffs.

Although these weapons weren’t great, given the current situation, having a weapon was deemed satisfactory.

Upon hearing Gu Xi’s order, the three newly formed skeletons charged forward with weapons without much control from Luna.

Their footsteps were light and decisive, with clear targets, unlike mindless undead who move aimlessly.

They persistently advanced with aggression, striking at anything they could shatter.

Even roadside food plates and water jugs, they’d kick them over.

Gu Xi, with a curved saber in one hand and a dagger in the other, followed behind, wondering why these skeletons seemed different from the ones described in books.

Unaware of all this was Luna, who floated around Gu Xi like an elf, sometimes appearing before him and sometimes vanishing.

No matter where, Gu Xi could clearly sense Luna’s presence.

This provided Gu Xi considerable solace; perhaps this is the meaning of having a contracted partner.

At that moment, urgent voices suddenly arose from a distance.

”Skeletons, there’s an Undead Mage!”

Following that, a new batch of cultists charged from afar.

They were no different from the cultists blown up by Gu Xi before, all clad in hooded black robes, holding weapons they could easily carry.

Gu Xi even saw some carrying candlesticks and stools as they rushed forward.

Watching them charge so feverishly, Gu Xi felt as though he was facing a group of maniacs.

”Wail!”

Gu Xi shouted loudly, charging forward.

Luna, picking up on Gu Xi’s command, immediately appeared before him and unleashed a shriek at the oncoming cultists.

Banshee Wail initiated.

The shriek, waves of sound, blasted toward the cultists, causing them all to bleed from their seven orifices.

At this moment, Gu Xi had seized the opportunity to charge twenty meters ahead, tossing a dagger that just hit the leading cultist.

Then Gu Xi pointed a finger at the cultist impaled by the dagger.

”Secondary Corpse Burst!”

Boom!

The cultist’s body exploded on site, the blast affecting several cultists behind, killing them under the heavy injuries from the Banshee Wail.

[Killed Cultist (Level 1), gained 9 Experience points.]

[Luna (Contracted Undead) killed Cultist (Level 1), you gained 6 Experience points, Contracted Undead gained 8 Experience points.]

[Killed Elite Cultist (Level 2), gained 22 Experience points, due to cooperative killing, Contracted Undead gained 11 Experience points.]

[...]

”Old tricks aren’t afraid of getting old, usefulness is what matters.”

Witnessing the results of this wave of attacks, Gu Xi cheerfully muttered something, targeting another exploded corpse with an attack.

”Secondary Corpse Burst!”

A cultist who had just crawled up from the explosion didn’t have time to react and got blasted to death once more by a sudden Corpse Burst attack.

Along with being blasted apart were two hidden thieves behind.

[Killed Elite Thief (Level 2), gained 35 Experience points.]

[Killed Thief (Level 2), gained 28 Experience points.]

Glancing at the iron rod dropped from the thief’s hand onto the ground, Gu Xi inexplicably felt a diminishing discontent in his heart.

Gu Xi barely had time to ponder further when the three skeletons charged to the corpses’ sides.

Without waiting for Gu Xi’s command, the three skeletons picked up the weapons from the ground and armed themselves with newer weapons.

Simultaneously, the old weapons were not discarded; instead, they were held in hand waiting for Gu Xi’s arrival.

Gu Xi rushed forward, grasping at the battlefield position just fought over, drawing a large number of soul fragments from shattered bodies, forming five new soul light groups in his hand.

Just then, Gu Xi arrived at the corpses’ side, glanced at the conditions, and flicked two soul light points into two relatively intact bodies.

[Successfully used Soul Summoning Skill, obtaining a Skeleton (Level 0), Soul Summoning Skill Experience 1 point.]

[Unsuccessfully used Soul Summoning Skill, gaining Soul Summoning Skill Experience 1 point.]

Another failure; it seems the success rate of Soul Summoning Skill isn’t high.

Gu Xi, momentarily intrigued, was about to have the three skeletons ahead step back a bit to equip the new companion with an extra weapon when he heard the sound of weapons clashing from the front corridor turn.

Apparently, there were more enemies; Gu Xi turned to glance at Luna, but before he could give orders, Luna had already darted out, in a few flashes nearly reaching the turning point.

Gu Xi drew out the dagger, his right hand ready with the Secondary Corpse Burst.

As he once said, old tricks aren’t afraid of aging; practicality is key.
