His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 2198: Chapter 639: One Year Later (16) Office_2

”Are you two going to stay and sit for a while? I’ll have Xi Meng make you some tea, or coffee?”

Seeing that the two of them didn’t seem eager to leave, Mu Yichen kindly asked for their opinion.

Chen Xiaoyi was stunned for a moment, but Feng Fanghua felt it had been about long enough; staying too long wasn’t good either, so she said, ”We’ll be going now, we won’t disturb your work.”

”Xiaoyi! Let’s head back first!”

Feng Fanghua spoke to Chen Xiaoyi with a loving tone.

”Mm! Then Young Master Chen, I’ll get going!”

Chen Xiaoyi turned her head, nodded at Feng Fanghua, then greeted Mu Yichen again before leaving.

After they left, Mu Yichen picked up the intercom: ”Coffee!”

When Xi Meng went in to deliver the coffee, she saw that the box of pastries was still on his desk; he had only eaten one piece and hadn’t touched it again.

So, does that count as liking it?

Or is it that in order to forget one person, he’s deliberately catering to another?

They say the best way to get over someone is to start a new relationship, but if that person got there first and already put down deep roots in his heart, can starting something new really make him forget?

Xi Meng couldn’t figure out the answer, so she just set down the coffee and was about to leave.

”Do you like pastries?”

Mu Yichen suddenly spoke up and asked.

Xi Meng lifted her eyes to look at him again.

”Take it away.”

Mu Yichen added, reading documents as he lifted the coffee cup and took a light sip.

”Yes.”

Xi Meng immediately understood what he meant and carried the pastries out.

When she set them on her own desk, Xi Meng looked at those delicate little pastries and thought that he actually didn’t like them at all.

Then just now, why did he...?

With the kind of temperament Mu Yichen used to have, he would never bother considering other people’s feelings, but now...

Looking at that box of pastries, and perhaps because she was close to Qin Mu, Xi Meng also didn’t feel like eating them at all, so she just set them aside.

Later Zhao Huai came upstairs; he didn’t care much, eating as he talked on and on.

In the afternoon, Feng Fanghua parted ways with Chen Xiaoyi and went to the bookstore. When Qin Mingzhu saw her she wasn’t very happy; she came out of the office and slowly walked over to her. ”Auntie, what brings you here?”

”I haven’t seen your little baby in so long. Can’t I come over to take a look?”

Seeing how unhappy she was, Feng Fanghua naturally knew the reason, so she took her hand and led her to sit down somewhere quiet.

”You’ve got that bank director’s daughter to dote on now, and you still have time to dote on our little boy?”

Ever since the matter between Mu Yichen and Chen Xiaoyi was exposed, Qin Mingzhu had had a serious problem with Feng Fanghua.

”Sigh! I knew you’d blame me for this. But think about it, as a mother, could I really bear to watch my son spend the prime of his life without a woman by his side?”

Feng Fanghua sighed and tried to explain.

”I don’t know about that. I only know my brother‑in‑law loves my sister. Instead of trying to help them make up, you let them grow estranged because of another woman.”

Qin Mingzhu lowered her head, refusing to get close to her.

”You child! Your sister and your brother‑in‑law have been breaking up and making up for so many years—how could I interfere in that? Was it me who made your sister go to Paris? Was it me who made them divorce? You didn’t see it when I tried to stop them—no matter how I tried, it was useless. It’s been a year already; of course I have to make other plans for your brother‑in‑law. On the other hand, you can tell Qin Mu to make other plans too. I heard there are some nobles and rich families in Paris who fancy her, isn’t that so?”

As Feng Fanghua spoke, she began to ramble a bit, but Qin Mingzhu understood every word clearly.

”Auntie, if you really don’t want my sister and brother‑in‑law to get back together, then you don’t need to come see my little boy anymore!”

As Qin Mingzhu spoke, she was about to stand up, but was forced back down by Feng Fanghua.

”You girl, so ungrateful. When you need your aunt, you treat me like your own mother; when you don’t, you want to push me away?”

Feng Fanghua was still talking to her in a patient, earnest tone.

”All these years my sister has been with your Mu Family, I thought she was doing so well. But from what you just said, I finally realize she wasn’t. The mother‑in‑law she thought loved her doesn’t even wish for her to be with the man she loves. She’s barely been gone and you’re already arranging for her husband to find another woman. Now you even want her to casually find someone else to marry? You clearly know how afraid she is of ending up with another heartless man like your son.”

As Qin Mingzhu spoke, she stood up again, and this time Feng Fanghua couldn’t reach out in time to stop her.

Feng Fanghua understood Qin Mingzhu’s words; she also knew she really was being callous. But what other choice did she have?
